  • American studio orchestra, recorded in NY

  • A classic tune from the by-gone era...

  • Surprisingly good recording for its time period. Clean sound and good reproduction. Thanks for this gem.

  • Question: does anybody know who wrote this? Fred Hager may have.

  • According to Allan Sutton's Discography "Cakewalks, Rags And Novelties", this tune was composed by J. Louis von der Mehden and published by Carl Fischer (1906). "Ragged Thoughts" was subtitled als "A Black Coffee Sketch".

  • Interesting. Thanks!

  • jazz bands recorded a lot of disc records before 1917

  • There was in fact, little if any PIANO ragtime music recorded on the shellac records of the day. Again, I'll say these guys had playing chops executing this piece.

  • Wow!

Simply fascinating how fast european Dance

Bands atopded dance music from oversea...

  • Early syncopated dance explain,s it ,thank you, perhap,s i may have some of these to upload in the new year.thank,s for taking the time to explain.

  • I thought of these record,s as novelty,s ,did not know they were ragtime.

  • This is not "classic" piano ragtime as by Scott Joplin or Tom Turpin, of course. Recordings like this one are early syncopated dance band music (one-, two steps, cake walks etc.). However it is still a sub-category of ragtime. Listen to Pryor's or Prince's pre-WWI records, for instance.
