love John Prine, and this song. Saw him in concerty at Navy Pier in the 70's (Chicago) hope I can find a better sounding recording though, to share on FB. but still, thanks for sharing , seriously. :)
I was turned on to John in 1979, 'Spanish Pipe Dream' then 'Prime Prine' being a guitar player I loved him from then on. I saw him for the first time last year 2009 in Albany, NY. I"ve seen a lot of concerts from America to Zappa but this was THE BEST show I've ever attendedand it was just John and Jason on guitar and mandolin. Incredible! He sounds like he's lost a step here but that show he was young again.
@2517Beth Been a john prine man since when I was a boy. One of the first 6 string songs I learned when I was 12 was sam stone. I'm 45 now and still can only entertain myself, unless there is some major substance abuse along with the music. Good to see "famous " people who don't have huge egos. We are all the same coming in this world and leaving it. Easy for some to forget.
He's older now, he's fatter now, and he'll never fully recover from being sick. In other words, he's like so many of his early fans, who've all lived a lot of life, and by God, he's still standing there, singing and playing his ass off, performing each song as if for the first time. And telling his stories.
He'd be the last to describe himself as noble, he'd probably laugh out loud, but there's something very noble about this kind genius continuing to share his gift with the world.
This is my daughter's favourite song in the whole wide world!!! She is 12 now, but has loved this song since she first understood, "kiss my ass". She knows all the words, but that line, she really can belt it out. LOL Hope to see you in Toronto next summer!!!
@anonymom anonymom....i'd be anonymom too if i let my kid scream out kiss my ass! bad language for a little girl.
john prine IS noble and i'm sure he'd laugh it off if someone called him that. i loved him from his beginnings in the sweet midwest until now...sing on john, sing on...
I just saw JP last night at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. What a great show. This guy is a treasure and his show was a real treat. The audience was hanging on every word. Thanks for all of the great tunes Mr. Prine.
Thank you John!
