I understand both sides. Reading about the military does not equate to serving in it. People in the navy (branch I'm in) are mainly encouraged to learn skills that are useful to their job and leave politics completely to the politicians. Students in college get to learn about all the politics involved in war but they can't experience what it really takes to get the job done.
As a current college student in Chicago and a combat veteran who served in the Marines (with two tours in Iraq) I have to disagree and agree with MrDirtyrook. Not going to lie, there are some very unintelligent people serving in the armed forces. This is why I and most of the men I served with got out. That's not anything new but, if you start generalizing the entire armed services as "stupid" then you haven't met us all. Come here MrDirtyrook I'd love to shake your hand.
Its very similar to a kid going through their parents divorce and getting bombarded by things like "I love you son, but your mother is a whore." It doesnt occur to some people that even though you dont support the mother she's directly involved in his sense of self worth. "I support the troops but not the war." Think about it
Saying "I support the troops but not the war" can have a plethora of different motivations and overall people are expressing support. I generally take the comment in stride but be advised it is incredibly offensive and can be, in a round about way, DEADLY. Killing human beings and having your friends killed is overwhelming difficult for the mind to digest. You may just make one of us uncomfortable or you may just initiate the suicide of some young soldier.
Soldiers carry with them a strong sense of Honor and Duty. These words can make a civilian chuckle. There is Glory in fighting religious zealots who blow up women and children. The word "glory" can make most civilians chuckle. You rob a soldier of these things when you go out of your way to say you don't support it. Your saying "murderer" to a young man who took the life of an enemy who would love to slice your throat. Your saying that the enemy we fight is innocent. Think.
i am glad they have a thing called google search, so i don't have to go to a third world country and kill people to find out the difference between the two groups, who the Taliban is a member of, or what an IED is. all i have to do is google it. if i cared. you guys act like people who go to prison, mix it up with criminals, and come out thinking you are smart because you have been around a bunch of idiots for so many year. they got a name for that, KING OF FOOLS.
haha, she said poor and uneducated, and he said most the army forces have high school diplomas, duh, that is exactly what we mean when we say uneducated!! only a military individual would consider a high school diploma as an education! lol
@MrDirtyrook Actually I know dumb asses that are in college that I am 10x smarter than that say the same ignorant shit you say. I actually graduated high school with a 3.96 GPA and I decided to join the Marine Corps. You are a ignorant piece of trash
@Aglahad I'm Army ROTC ..... Almost didn't I almost enlisted but my Brother is an NCO and convinced me otherwise .... sometimes people don't want to go the officer route .... because some people feel they would have a better time in enlisted .... I have a 3.93 GPA in college right now .... and I sorta think college is far easier than HS :/ .... but then again ....
@Aglahad im not trying to take tests with hangovers and missing class so I can drink the night b4 .... if you focus on studies ... and talk to your professors .... college is far easier .... but maybe that's just my opinion :/
as a political science student W/ graduate and undergraduate degrees, and currently in law school, i have to say whomever made this video has the propensity for ethnocentrism. political science is not only about the American political systems. it is about all world governments. China, Russia, Burma, Italy, Guatemala, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan. any PS student would be able to answer these questions.
@MrDirtyrook One would assume the same PS student, particularly one with graduate and undergraduate degrees currently attending law school, would not need a lowly United States Army Staff Sergeant with a mere high school diploma to point out that sentences require capitalization. I could be wrong, though. Soldiers are all generically stupid I guess.
@MrDirtyrook "any PS student would be able to answer these questions." WRONG Political Science in the U.S. system is so dumbed down its scary. You get told to remember on monday what will be quizzed on friday and then its on to pizza and beer. Any soldier can learn what you learn chump. The only difference between you and a soldier is you would piss your pants when the first bullet whizzed by because its obvious your a pussy. Guys like you are cut so often I can smell you a mile away.
@MrDirtyrook The only 'centrism I practice is the irrational prejudice against students. While a scholastic environment is a form of real-world experience, I am hesitant to equate the learning one receives secondhand, or, for that matter nth-hand, under no real strong incentive to succeed (paying back your student loans, or not disappointing mommy and daddy does not count as a "strong incentive"), grants one little other than the illusion of knowledge.
@gloaming05 Students can claim, sometimes rightfully, to stand on the shoulders of giants in regurgitating the wisdom of their similarly-educated PhD professors, but I have a hearty distrust of any knowledge that has not passed the acid test of reality, and you, as a graduate student of poli-sci, now studying law, have given me no reason to believe that yours has.
Pretty fucking weak but I get it; After 8 years of dealing with people hating on Bush Jr's war in Iraq you're now pinning the current situation in Iraq on Obama.
Well ROFLMAO, you feel better ?
I was very much in Iraq as a light infantryman for 2004 and if I had my way I much rather be there getting fat off my ass on hot chow and helping Iraqis change the oil on humvees instead of doing patrol after patrol after patrol by day and ambush and raid and ambush and raid night after night again.
I was both and this sucks.

@MrDirtyrook Soldiers and Marines don't go kill people overseas to find out what an IED is jackass. They do it because it is their job.

it is good that the military uses its own Jargon, and no one know what they are saying, but that and a 75C will get you a bag of chips.
