  • @SuperKitty1301 It just so happens That i'm 84 Years old.

  • I had this as one of my very first records... no idea how I acquired it!

  • I get to do a routine to this song in musical theatre this summer :D it's so much fun

  • I remember this song.

  • and its "groom" not broom

  • I remember when they played it on the radio. lol

  • i loves this song since i was a kid

  • love this song and im 15, lonnie donegan is minnnnt

  • I love your mind. I never thought I would run acrossa you tuber so facile with the ability to leap tall abstraction levels at a single bound. You have taken liberties with the words and that is fine ! The Broom, the sprite, wow. Bering as smart as you are will lead to a conflicted life surrounded by nice folks who are, in comparison to you , dullards. Be nice to them..but Dont let them bug you...Keep it up !!! This took a lot of work and you are inspiring me. Wow

  • This was on the hit parade when I was a kid - novelty songs were a regular thing. Look them up.

  • i loved this song when i was a younger. (thats about... 10 years ago)

  • It's probably a good thing I can't make videos. At the "Do you swallow it in spite?" would have been accompanied of either a picture of a sign that said "I'm not touching that one" or of a big, black screen that said "CENSORED" in big, red letters.

  • Some of the words don't go with the words, but I love this song!!!!!! Great Job

  • 1:18 looks like a bong!!!!

  • I've heard it

  • Good old Lonnie Donegan! This, of course, was a remake of a song that originally made its debut in 1924 as "Does Your Spearmint Lose Its Flavour On The Bedpost Overnight" - this time with the correct non-usage of the apostrophe in "it's"!

  • @hrpman Love it when someone notices lingo nuances. In this vid, the poster rally goes wild with substitutions on words..and I think it's a scream. Thanks for the note on its it's.

  • @angelofbebop Fun share, angel!!! Except I never enjoyed chewing gum .. so, I am clueless about this question -- that's right .. clueless!!! LOL

  • I still have the 45 record of this song,, I'd give a million dollars if anyone knows what the b side of that record is.

  • I THINK the flip side was: "When It's Tooth-pickin' Time In False Teeth Valley... I USED to have the 45 too.. as a kid.. it was probably in my folks sale bill :(

  • @MSTwistedMind

Shouldn't the false teeth have been in "Glass Valley" at the side of the bed post?

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @4t9erdave its aunt rhody

  • @4t9erdave p.s. id like my million dollars in big bills please

Anyhow; you're quite right, it IS "spite."

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • 1:48-1:52 If tin whistles are made of tin, what do they make foghorns out of?

  • Yes, I first heard it when I was about 13 when it came out. I sing it to make the kids laugh.

    Hey, we can all relate.

  • I have twio versions of this song. This an old song. Yea I heard it.

  • SPITE

If your mother tells you not to do something, then of course, you do it in

SPITE. Fright, only when she's a single Mom, dominating with her witchedness. Therefore, you MUST to things in spite, or you shall be spited upon.

  • Lonnie Donegan was the king of British skiffle music in the 1950s, and one of the early influences on the Beatles. His big hit was Rock Island Line, which the Quarrymen (as the Beatles were called then) used to play in concert.

  • It's

do you swallow it in fright not sprite, xD

  • Actually it's "spite"

  • thanks sammy

and i think it fit the nature of the video to use a picture of sprite in place of spite

  • I think so too, play on words innit?

  • @DoubleOhSammy - and its 'night' not 'knight' but he was obviously having a joke. The song is awesome and the pics that go with it are hilarious! love your interpretations. LOL at sprite! Great Job :)

  • my dad sang this song, so yes i have herad this before.

  • What a gas! I remember a little yellow single with this on one side and this is the only side we played. The video was great, except for the Sprite sodas. Hahahahahahha! LOL

  • gay

  • lol this song is cute i love it good job

  • HELL YAH! BOOMER SOONERS!

  • I think you'll find his name is Lonnie Donegan!

  • I use to play this song on record...anyone remember records? I'd play it fast so it sounded like the chipmunks. and do a little a dance and lip sink it to my friends. damn that was fun.

  • I have this on vinyl. I still have a record player, an 8track and even 8tracks to play

    i love retro stuff.

  • @Minikuikka The old records would of been the dr demento records

  • This song is so funny i love it ha

  • Never underestimate what Lonnie Donnegan did for Music his style -Skiffle-influenced many a HUGE name - I took the following from his page in Wikipedia:

The skiffle style encouraged amateurs to get started, and one of the many skiffle groups that followed was The Quarrymen formed in March 1957 by John Lennon. Donegan's "Putting On The Style"/"Gamblin' Man" single was number one on the British charts in July 1957, when Lennon first met Paul McCartney.

I have LOTS of LD memories as a kid.

  • luv it!

  • awesome video for the song! however, I must confess I was born three decades too late(the 60's - 80's was the greatest era of music and fashion!)

  • it says no one has heard of this song lol I grew up with it, and still have the LP

  • that was a wicked video, me and my mum loved it :D nice one!! Wicked song haha, my dad had it on some random old tape and I loved it when I was like 5/6 years old

  • I used to sing this song allll the time

  • LOL this song is used so well in the novel One Flew Over the CUckoo's Nest

    good novel...

  • This wonderful song was written by Billy Rose, Ernest Breuer, and my late great uncle Marty Bloom.

  • Actually, the singer's name is Lonnie Donegan and not Donnie Lonegan. Nevertheless, this is a great record and a fabulous clear recording. Thanks very much for posting.

  • I LOVE this song and I'm only 17 this year

  • haha. I havent heard this song in years. When I was a kid my friend Nick's dad would sing it all the time. I didnt even know it was a real song!

  • Lol. This song is hilarious because the lyrics are totally silly. I don't know what's more stupid the intro-lyrics? 'Oh-me, oh-my, oh-you Whatever shall I do Hallelujah, the question is peculiar I'd give a lot of dough If only I could know The answer to my question Is it yes or is it no' The chorus? OR this part: If tin whistles are made of tin What do they make fog horns out of Boom, boom

  • my granddad has a cd with a bunch of songs like these he played when i was younger. i thought they were really silly. it also had the purple people eater!

  • that was done by ray stevens i have a copy some where !!! ha ha

  • Donegan did this so long ago but it still brings a smile. I love the joke "...if tin whistles are made of tin, what do they make fog horns out of?" You can create a string of these, rattle them off to a drunk engineer and watch when the forehead ends up where the chin is figuring the joke out! Boom Boom!

He was your countryman with a string of funny tunes. Not that many came over "the pond" but those that did made an impression. He is gone now, but his music is missed.

  • i meant purple people eater was done by ray steven not does your ...

  • Sheb Wolly

  • lol, me too StraitjacketFeelings

  • dude put up find-a-me machine
