  • I came here after watching an anime... It had an orchestra playing this, hehe :D

  • @HamiaahKios it's a cello..... :)

  • 6:46 circumcision with cymbals...ouch!

  • Minute 11:17, what´s the name of that instrument?

  • gergiev looks so fabulous in this

  • @futuroid Not surprising when you play Tchaikovsky ;) If you know what I mean...

  • classical music makes you really feel

  • Love this timpani part :)

  • I love the expressions in the director's face.Classical music is awesome

  • I too was a first violinist, and loved playing this in my orchestra.

  • The sexiest piece of music in the history of printed sheet music is this masterpiece by Tchaikovsky.

  • music and musicianship at its highest level.

  • awesome fingers at 6.50 - i didn't know they could move that fast! you violinists are incredible!

  • @MissJaffaCat thanks =) playing this with my orch at this speed. Im a first violin. that is called rehearsal E in case you wished to know

  • just awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can someone please explain to me what's the straight piece of wood next to all of the bassists scrolls [except principal]?

  • @ensignlilyjavert That is called extension. It makes the lowest note of the bass even lower because the string is longer. It allows the other bassists to play lower notes than the principal can play.

  • me llama la atencion la parte de timbales...no se si sera alguna modificacion del director o una edicion diferente a la q emite por l gral la "Kalmus"

  • @twolfg06 I said violists not violinists :P

  • boob bassoon ftw :)

  • how can ppl not like this?!

    this is amazing music

  • 7:55 This is the most well-known part of this song. It is so very overused in movies and TV shows.

  • that conductor has some talented fingers

  • Even tho the harp is not one of my favorite musical instruments, in this piece by Tchaikosvky the remainder of the London Symphony Orchestra tends to drown it with a sea of sounds, had the harp been a little bit stronger without going too overboards, it would had been more enjoyable.

  • @BluTaiwan too bad violists almost never have solos in music! (you are correct in that they should acknowledge them for the once in a blue moon when they do get a solo)

  • @TiaraUponThouHead are you kidding me? violinists have tons of solos....

  • Boy, this Gergiev is quite a character, but a genius no doubt. Anyhow, it's a wonder to me how orchestral musicians are able to follow his conducting.....

  • 6:41 I have to play this in a concert tomorrow, not looking forward to it.

  • Thumbs up if you're doing this for the Leaving Cert

  • @TheGoodManJoe I sorta wanted to give you a thumbs down for reminding me but didn't. Sure you'll have that.

  • You just have to love Rachel :)

She plays the bassoon so beautiful :)

  • 00:38 keep blowing, asian clarinet guy, you're getting there.

  • @aimeeelulu What are you talking about? I don't care how he blows his clarinet. He's in the feaken London Symphony Orchestra!!!! Have you any idea how hard it is to get in there? He doesn't need to get anywhere, he's there already, period.

  • Tchaikovsky is so much better than Wagner. With wagner i sometimes feel like i'm stuck in a swamp of sounds, while with tchaikovsky you just fly

  • To play musical instruments like that is a gift from god.

  • @strange6 Not just gift from a god, but also a lot of HARD work :)

    I know, I'm a musician too :)

  • i mainly listen to Rap and i like but this is some amazing stuff

  • @DarkBEats789 Then you stick out from the crowd. It's a great gift to be able to appreciate this. Thank you for actually recognizing this, rather than blowing it off as "crappy old people music".

  • i find it fascinating that these musicians can play pieces that are this long

i play clarinet at school and i can barely play a 4 minute piece without my cheeks aching like crazy

  • @chriscotten24 Thanks for the clarification :)

  • 2 dislikes? LOL? they are probably just mad that they've never played it.. id be mad too..

  • 4:55 .... reminds me to Dune.

  • @3:00 why did the 4th guy stop playing?

  • where is the other 7 minutes!?

  • @PadraicPodgeKelly here: youtube.com / watch?v=2IDzeZ1PSY8

  • My youth orchestra is playing this... I wish our bass section was this good :(

  • This is a very intense piece that I think captures the story of Romeo and Juliet. It shows the tenderness of the the love yet has the intense fighting of the montagues and Capulets. I Believe that this version is a better representation then the prokofiev. But, what other people say, both are two different composers of different styles, time periods. I do believe that both had a good interpretation of the tragic love story but Tchaikovsky seemed to capture it with a edge.but it's just a opinion.

  • @JJBRMusic FEEL the impending DOOM as the piece starts, and conflict at 4:35. The parts cut into each other almost randomly. The piece is meant to be played as if it was being composed as it went along. Tchaikovsky basically composed this piece in this manner. ONE AND DONE; and one word to describe this: BEAST.

  • @HotSauceCM7 ....... I have not agreed more to a person. you sir/madam are my favorite :)

  • The comments on classical music are always so intelligent.

  • @articsocean Jajajaja, not always.

  • LOL Is that male cellist falling asleep or somethin? 8:24

  • @SuperWaluigiSunshine i dnt get it? do you mean conductor or comparing to Tchaikovsky?

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful. I feel like I know this from my childhood, like I have listened to it very often - it seems so familiar. And it reminds me of falling asleep as a child... But I can't remember.

  • Unlike the great conductors of the past, Walter, Klemperer, Guilini, Karajan etc I find Gergiev very inconsistent. This is excellent, his performance of the 4th symphony (you tube) with the VPO is appalling - much too fast, reducing the music to banality. I am finding this all the time with his recordings, some good some terrible, maybe he just doing too much.

  • Too bad they didn't have a close up on the violists whenever they had a solo.

  • @BluTaiwan GAH I KNOW RIGHT!!!! I am a violist and I was so horrified to see them showing the Cor and not the Violas!! It's the only time the violas get the limelight!!

  • @BluTaiwan nobody ever cares about violists unfortunately

  • The orchestra I play in are preparing to perform this song. It is sooooo intricate and elaborate. To get it to sound this good takes a lot of time and talent.

  • This is literally amazing.

  • This is just as good as The Planets at Proms 2009.

  • every day i listen to this piece whilst doing my music homework :P pretty epic

  • 1 person plays Sax xD

  • @MssFlautista no discrimination of instrument please

  • @TheStevenOoi :( I love sax!!! i was just joking.

  • huijņa, nada metal iggrac :D i chaikovsky pedik :D:D

  • What lovely music.

  • the only one video ive seen without unlikes! THIS IS BEATIFUL!

  • @musicrock109 trolls don't listen to classical music.

  • Awesome!!

  • The yearning love of Romeo and Juliet, beautifully crafted by Tchaikovsky @ 8:01 and it repeats @ 9:09...The prologue is well described in the start (written in F-sharp minor with the foreboding of doom from the lower strings).

  • My goodness, is it standing room only there? Amazing!

  • Seeing the dumb comments here I conclude the world isn't ready for this masterpiece

  • Just have to recomend the Russian National Orchestras version, it's simply amazing. LSO played it well but Tchaikovsky is best when played by a Russian or slavonic orchestra. It's the dynamics, articulation and the special temper they are born with that makes it so fantastic.

  • 6:53

    That's just amazing..

  • @davidhan96 and 5:51

    and 6:05 and 6:43 and

  • The coat of the suit is called a Nehru-coat.

  • I've always wanted a suit like that conductor is wearing. Anyone know what they're called? My combover won't be as bad though...

  • I've always wanted a suit like that conductor is wearing. Anyone know what they're called?

  • a fine batch of musicians, but i thought the fast parts were too fast- and the slow parts were too slow. i admit the conductor reminds me of joe cocker at woodstock.

  • I love Gergiev's harp fingers at the end of this video...lol!

  • why are they soooo good????

  • i got so distracted my his big bald patch whenever he was leading forward :L

  • At 6:41 hang onto your knickers!

  • Fantastic, amazing! perfect!

  • SInce when did Pee-Wee Herman play the double bass? (3:29)

  • This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. It expresses his pure genius and is a grand compilation of dissonance and angelic harmony. If there is a heaven, I'm sure he's up there writing the music.

  • Great!Fantastic!Thank you very much!!!

  • Great performance! I love it.

  • Since when does Jack Nicholson conduct?

  • @Conortastic Since when did Leonardo DiCaprio play the flute?

  • 6:40 IS SO AMAZING!!

  • this performance is simply amazing

  • mistake :O

  • @sweetchildonline

Are you crazy? What are you looking for? Mistakes or music? This is PURE ART!!!

  • @belushka1894 ah well come on like this has to be an amazing orchestra it at least reminds us that they're human!

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, the Cor Anglais, truly the most beautiful sounding instrument ever made!

  • @MrHicks091 are you joking? it sounds like a goose.

  • Heehee the conductor is funny. I love this piece, especially the Stife theme. Always find myself humming it

  • 9:05 is Love theme

  • Verdaderamente una de las grandes obras de arte de la humanidad

  • me encanta

  • Lousey Orchestra lousey conducting. English orchestras cannot play this music with any fervour at all. The climax is plain embarrassing with undernourished strings and coarse brass. .Abysmal

  • @philopus94 I diagree! I think it's magnificent! Would't call it plain or abysmal at all! Keep these type of opinions to yourself! It's hugely inconsiderate!!

  • @philopus94 I disagree! I think it's magnificent! Would't call it plain or abysmal at all! Keep these type of opinions to yourself! It's hugely inconsiderate!!

  • @philopus94 ha some fagget

  • Magnificent. Proud to have played in a symphony that could handle this work of art.

  • mmmm,,, amazingg

  • seamless

  • موسيقي خالده

  • This is so epic.

  • 3:35 what are those things on the Bass Scrolls?

  • @DS42296 Extensions, they let the Bass's play below their Low E.

  • @AaronCEdwardsMusic ohhh ok thanx :)

  • Since when did Leonardo DiCaprio play the flute?

  • @chickcap yea i'm wondering, who's that flute player??

  • @chickcap Since George Carlin became a conductor.

  • if you can't make any smart comment then shut up you moron

  • @chickcap Around the same time George Carlin took up conducting by the looks.

  • @chickcap Zits 'n all :)

  • @chickcap Waaahahahaha great comment mate

  • I love the first couple of minutes, it reminds me when i was on a delayed running flight to L.A. from the UK, i was the only person awake in the cabin on the flight, it was dark and as i looked out the window the moon was full over the sea and we were starting to hit the coast of Canada, i could see a small fighing village lights and as i looked around the cabin with everyone asleep the feeling was ever so weird, i know i sound deranged but the music to the suroundings was just right.

  • @19bootsy68 That's a beautiful thing. I also relate to music in this way. Welcome to deranged music fans club!

  • @silvercrrab Thank you very, very..much :) and it's fishing village not fighing, i was taken by the moment, i was jet lagged...i was dyslexing for a split second, i'd had no sleep for nights on end, my wife left me...ok..so the truth is im as thick as a castle wall...

  • @19bootsy68 That was a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.

  • @19bootsy68 Nothing deranged about it. I can see where you're coming from.

  • brill but (theres always a but lol) Harp is played a bit too broken up :/ should be more of a flow i've heard it in other versions played better.. but it does contrast the broken chords more against the sustained ones.. hmmm :/ not too sure of my opinion lol

  • father jack conducts

  • Wow that conductor is doing the beethoven!!!!

  • Woah conductor...woah...flashes of Jack Nicholson

    Awesome
