Look how Scott lives this song -- it's wrenching. Especially with that reaction to "am I losing your trust? am I losing your love? ...She said no..." -- That breath he takes about 2 min in -- makes me stagger for breath too. Thank you guys. more than I can say.
Crackerfarm videos keep me from getting my work done! Everyday I have to get on and get my dosage of The Avett Brothers... so good! Thanks @crackerfarm
Many seemed concerned of the toll that the recent success has taken on the personal lives of the band. Scott and his wife are expecting the birth of their second child. May God bless them all at this amazing time in their lives. Long live The Avetts and thank you all for changing my life!
Hey crackerfarm, If you listen very closely or with a good speaker system, you can hear some really muddy bass tones. If you put a low cut filter on the EQ of the audio it will cut that noise out but keep Scotts performance the same! Just being a nerdy audio engineer letting you know! Keep up the amazing videos!!!
I just stood up and applauded my laptop. Congrats another solid song. Picasso once said something to the effect: Art is the lie that enables us to realize the Truth. You fellas been lyin' this whole damn time, and many many folks all thank you for that.
We love you (all of you) - and the beards. Your fans (myself included) love you all for what you stand for and how passionate you are about it. Take care of yourselves and your families while on this wild ride! Remember: Salvation Song! My guiding light!
@keg5066 This song sounds like he is worried about losing his daughter's trust or love as he travels from town to town playing in these shows. His music seems to have taken a toll on his relationships with the ones close to him. I hope for his sake that he takes some time to himself. But in response to you, I don't see how the way he pains to say the word "yes" at the end is unconvincing to you.
"not too convincing" not to be rude but what the hell are you talking about? this is a very well written song, im not expert, but its pretty convincing and real to me.
@MOgrayback i'm happy that you found comfort in this song. The avetts have a charming way of achieving that through their music. It was just my opinion, people will always have different views on art.
"not too convincing" not to be rude but what the hell are you talking about? this is a very well written song, im not a expert, but its pretty convincing and real to me.
"if you love them, let them go". I would rather both these guys spend the time they need with the people they love. The Avetts are a huge influence on my music, i love them so much that I can let them go.
I really don't understand the amount of people saying this is his life he's singing about. Artists are constantly creating lyrics from all walks off life (not just their own), and as we all know songs about misery/break-up/struggles sell...and speak the most to the listeners because we all go through those things.
@irishfitzy13 I think it just stems from the fact, we know they sing about life experiences and thuth is a big part of who they are...... I don't know??????. I get that Artists are exactly that.... I just think everyone has this immediate reaction because of what they've said about who THEY are as artists.....????
If this is about his life, which I think it is, I want them to take a break from touring and from recording. Their families need them. We've had enough (in a good way) for a while. When I spoke to him at South Bend at the end of January, he said they're not touring as much this year. After hearing this song, I'm glad :)
Goodness, I can't quit watching this. Such a beautiful and real and raw song. I can always count on The Avetts to put into words the things that I can't.
Amazing song, Scott's songs seem to have been taking a darker turn, I hope my boys find time in their incredibly hectic and devoted schedule to their fans for some time for themselves.
How could you not take a dark turn? this world is becoming so trivial... its a joke.
And anyone that spent 6 months or whatever Scott spent listening only to Townes Van Zandt will always need that darker side of things in their life...
@habertree oh no way, thanks for clearing that up, I totally forgot to press play and listen to my favorite band of all time, you must be one of those people that like to say no offense so you get a free pass to offend someone.

Reminds me of Scott saying he'd been listening to a lot of Townes and it made his songs depressing. But that sigh at 2:00 hurts.

I think there's another song hidden in the introspective silences between the lines. Autobiographical or not, it's vunerable and gorgeous.
