On my playthrough because of the glitch Ornstien got stuck in one of the columns, and I only had to fight the fat guy. After the death cutscene the battle continued though.
The trick to this fight is planning ahead, as in killing Ornstein last in the first playthrough so you can kill him first in the next. Makes it a lot easier.
thats for anyone having problems with the boss fight on normal game or +, ++ the only difference in plus is that the fight is longer just keep focusing and its easy also u can try to keep your soul level very low if your playing the normal game so u can get help stay lvl 45-55 until final boss

@fkkkkkenig It has it's times when it's absolute bullshit! such as in tomb of giants bonfire location is pathetic right when I get close to fighting nito I get ambushed by a dog skeleton and those worm skeleton things and top it all of another one suddenly comes under my feet and knocks me off the damn ledge.

I took out Ornstein first because he's extremely difficult to deal with if he gains Smough's powers. Although Smough gaining Ornstein's powers is no pushover either.

Kill the gaurds outside and u will find a mark on the ground to summon a phantom to help(even offline). The phantom can distract one of them and probably kill that target before u kill yours. So, if your going for killing smough first attack her and u phantom friend will take on Ornstein. From there u can get it from one on one, just pay close attention and stay patient.
Damn they weren't messing around. I think that is the most seriously I have ever seen them try to kill someone. I would take it as a compliment, they fear your badassery. That or they are still mad about NG.

Eagle Shield and a Lightning spear +5 makes this fight SO easy. First playthrough i wanted Ornstien's armor, so i killed fatty first, at the time i only had a +2 spear and was doing 400+ damage a hit to him. 2nd playthrough, i wanted fatty armor, Ornstien is a little harder to kill, but again, using that weapon setup lets you land a hit and not be vulnerable. Once Ornstien is down, fatty is a cakewalk.
