Oh!!! This is Soul stirring. When you meet God for yourself having to cry and not know what to pray and ask. None other has ever known. Thank you for posting this. God Bless us all
Blessed Be! Children of man. This song never mentions a deity. Our hearts hear what we feel when we are in the "temple invisible" and assign meaning. Best not to argue about that, doesn't your soul agree?
She was a great song bird; one of the best. She sure could belt out a song. She actually DID make a lot of money, as when she died she was a millionaire. She deserved everything she made.
THANKYOU 4 POSTING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL RECORDING AND VIDEO OF MAHALIA. MY MOTHE SUNG THIS SONG AS A TESTOMONY TO HER WALK WITH CHRIST AND IT BROUGHT BACK SUCH GOOD MEMORIES TO ME
She not only sang the music she walked the walk, She could have made a lot of money singing the secular, but to her that was a trail laid out by the devil!
I love the way she sang this hymn which is among my most favorite. It's clearly sung from her heart. I am so moved and touched. God bless you and all who listens to this rendition.
I think it's ridiculous that there is a race discussion in response to a beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman. I think it's silly, in some of your opinions, that because she is a woman of color she can sing well because she is singing soulfully. In my opinion, she seems to be more a woman of the Lord than of color, and I'm assuming that is her inspiration!
As a mixed race person, I can say that is not true. All people have hardships. It says in God's word that we will ALL suffer. To say one race has more hardships then another is to say that Gods word is not correct. Our hardships are different, but that does not take away from what others feel.
Blacks sing different because of culture, enviroment, & influence. That's it.
ye yellow boy you almost got it, black sing different because of a culture, enviornment, and influence of hardships, and by you ignoring that you're choosing to reject ur culture!!
For African people music was and is an integral part of their lives...they worked, they made music; they celebrated - they made music; someone died they made music, if there were social ills they sang about it and so on. Additionally, our ancestors believed very much in the supernatural and music was the gateway to embrace the spirit realm and all the power that came with it, so African/Black music was always intense because it 'took you out of yourself' to that higher plain, so to speak.
I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. Whites have never experienced the sting of racism. Or denied housing or a job because they are white. They don't get charged higher interest rates simply because of their skin color.
This isn't entirely true. There are people out there who just hate whites. Not to mention that there is a double standard for whites. Yes, the racism against whites is significantly less, and nowhere near as common or extreme, but it is there nonetheless. That isn't my point though. All people have their hardships is what I said. Racism is just one hardship. Sadly, some have endured this more than others.
This doesnt mean that all havent had tough times. Whites had the potato famine for example. Blacks had slavery. Mexicans had to gain freedom from the french and spanish. No matter where you come from, there will always be obstacles.
You are correct in that all races have had their share of difficulties. But whites have never had the color of their skin as their obstacle. During the potato famine you could eat wheat or rice etc. I could never change to a different color skin to get a job or house or avoid some other sort of discrimination. Granted things have improved greatly in respect to race relations that is. The good thing is race is becoming less of an issue altogether.
@concorde9615 have you been to zimbabwe lately? see how that white skin works for you over there? you cant tell me whites arent discriminated against because of skin color
I grew up loving Mahalia. My mother introduced me. As far as she was concerned, there is no greater voice in Gospel or anywhere else like Mahalia. Listening and watching her, it is hard to believe that she is not played more often. I think most people may have not had the honor of hearing her is all I can surmise. Bless you always Mahalia and all who love you!
God given, God blessed. Praising his Glorious name! Thanks for the video. Peace be with you.
