If you believe in Individual Freedom, Limited Government and States Rights, which I do. Then you should have no problem with repealing DOMA and letting the States regulate marriage as they have traditionally done.
@FRSFreeState Marriage is a fundamental right for ALL, rights should not be regulated. What if the majority of the people of a state were gay and voted to regulate it as you suggest and come up with something like marriage is between two men and two women? All people are equal, all people gay and straight pay taxes all should have the same rights.
@FRSFreeState No I don't because it is a right. And it is understood that marriage is between two adults and that's what basically the gay community is asking for, no body has said we want marriage to be between an adult and a minor, or an adult and a relative, etc. Those are childish thoughts from people who obviously oppose.
In one comment you said marriage shouldn't be regulated. In the next comment you said "of course everything has to be between adults". So do you believe in regulating marriage or not?
@rg0057 Looking at the actual text, it appears to strike both sections of DOMA, and require the federal government to recognize marriages that a state would recognize. I like that.
1. This is another stupid "message vote" like the balanced budget amendment. Everyone knows it won't pass, and it's only intended to tickle the base.
2. What I'd like to know is why nobody's calling out all the Democrats who voted for DOMA in 1996, allowing it to be passed with a veto-proof majority. Obama, at least, has more balls than all of THOSE Democrats.
I agree. How about we START with the business community that thinks nothing of screwing poor people out of what little they have, and undermining the financial stability of the nation in order to get their seven figure a year bonuses.
@TrollBuster9090 There's nothing wrong with someone who's worked his way up the corporate ladder getting bonuses. >.> While it's always easy to blame our issues on the rich, poor people are screwed because of themselves, not because of the corporate bigwigs.
The corrupt, evil, hateful Republicans will ensure that DOMA stays on the books. Instead of sorting out why we have no balanced budget or sorting out why we have a 7 year wait for Registered Nurses to work in the US despite a 200,000 shortage, instead of spending more on educating our young people the Republicans choose to waste taxpayer's dollars on hiring lawyers to defend DOMA. They should all be ashamed and they should be in jail for wasting taxpayer's money.
The chances of Repealing this law this year is unlikely. However, efforts will be placed and down the road this will help us win the battle. I am so glad to hear that the Senate will be taking action on this bill. However, How fair can it really go?
@Whiteboymdew i think it will be happening a lot sooner than you think. In the last 3 months i have seen it snowball so quickly that it's making even MY head spin! This huge issue is now forcing politicians to change their votes or not be re-elected in my opinion. And we all know how greedy a lot of them are, and that they will do almost anything to keep their cush jobs. This will be repealed within 6 months is my guess....and I can't wait to be able to marry my Irish fiance of 3 years!
@Barderella Your kidding right? This will never make it through the House where republicans have the majority. It might not even make it through the Senate. This will be a very long process. The United States barely passed Don't Ask Don't Tell. Theres no way this year or next year that this will pass. This will take a really longtime.
better do it quick...this one law causes countless problems and frankly it is bigoted

So if a man wants to marry his 15 year old daughter that would be all right

@FRSFreeState Of course everything has to be between adults. Your comment is just a show of your childish way of thinking.

Does this legislation actually repeal DOMA, or just modify it by repealing only Section 3?
