That aftermarket motor you put in sounds a lot like the original motors orecks have in them, nice find by the way. Wish i can find vacs like that but all i find is dirt devils, bissells, eurekas, hoovers
@MisterTwister2001 If you want 256 vacuums than that's you. I'm not in a contest with anyone. And I have 11 Kirbys fyi. Go choke on your apples, all 256 of them!
@JPa311979 Not one melted or burnt spot on it, even inside the cover. The motor in right in front of the vent, where the fire come from. It was more like a flamethrower when it happend, so it was just like a big flame shot out the back of it. Now the motor itself is a different story. All the plastic melted off the very back of the motor, exposing the bearing, armature shaft, brushes, and field windings on the back side. No saving that. Probably the most a vacuum has ever blown up on me.
@jmurray01 Oh no, they're only a 480 watt motor over here. You take our voltage, 120 volts, and X it by the amps, 4 amps, and you get the 480 watts. The motor is really just a power nozzle motor, one designed mainly to drive a brush roll.
@fgbags Really ? My bog standard JMB SC1056 Cylinder vac has 1400Watts and thats about standard for over here... Did the older vacs have smaller motors?
Amazingly it still sounded ok, kept running till I shut it off. I didn't let it run all that long. There was kinda a "pop" sound when the 3 or 4 inch flame came out the vent, but quickly went out. No damage done under the hood from that. After all that it wouldn't do anything!

What wattage of motor is in there now compared to the original one ? I assume the original would have been somewhere between 1300-1500W ?
