I'm guessing these are just extreme tests. In reality commercial flights would never attempt landing in such conditions would they. I'd imagine commercial pilots don't play the same game as test pilots do they.
@CrazyDoug17 HAHA I thought the same thing about it.....Suck the large baby bottle of fluid in it's small plane' s mouth....HA I want to get on that 380 airplane!!
Actually they do, you can be sure in a cross wind situation the pilot is landing the plane and making the wave off decisions ... btw that kind of landing is called a crab landing or crabbing - you fly into the wind to compensate for the cross wind and straighten out just before touchdown so that you dont end up shearing your landing gear due to lateral stress on the wheels and supporting frame.
@kirbienstien ¬¬ YOU DON´T KNOW NOTHING, CRAB IS MANUAL,RUDDER TO THE WIND AND MAINTAIN WINGS STABILIZED,ON THE LAST SECOND PUSH THE OTHER PEDAL AND LANDS...SMOOTHON THE RUNWAY ; -)
@Dorisequador Dam lol i completly forgot about this cmment but yeah, now that A380 would be like ''Oi you their, little boeing, better not be giving me evils mate or ill kick your ass boii''
I think many of the major airlines will buy these planes just to put their name on the side of it. its human nature to show off and this is the plane to do it in.
yes it is possible pilots train for that all the time, pilots in china face winds like that constantly, so not only is it possible its fact, yes you can land in a 54 knott crosswind
very true, especially now when the economy is all messed up and will be that way, who wants to spend 300+ million on an aircraft that will take way to much to fuel, very very few airports can handle and the ticket prices will be outrageous, Airbus will fail and my beloved Boeing will still remain victorious, Airbus will sell or close there doors for good,
The Airbus A-380 will drag Airbus down. But, the tax payers in Europe will continually bail them out. As long as Airbus never needs to show a profit (and, they won't, for a very long time), they will survive on the tax payers' back.
Well, it's a fact that the aircraft on long range flight are over-encumbered. It'es now a common practice to overbook a flight. So, believe me, a 800+ passenger aircraft, en the most fuel-efficient passenger carrier of the world is far of being a failure.
What I find funny with Boeing lover is that they were very happy to bash Airbus when the 380 was late. And when I see what happened to the 787, they should watch on their own problems before insulting others.
@diamondrio21 : LOL, too much fuel?? A380 is ONLY the most fuel-efficient passenger aircraft in the world. You're an ignorant, dude.
And: very few airports can handle? Strange... I work at the Zürich Airport -sure not one of the biggest- and the only thing we had to change was the push-back truck and the deicing hose (pipe).
Dude, you could at least make an efford to look a bit more informed...
and how about you? When will you die? Or do you start to shit your nylon briefs that your mom bought for you while sitting in front of your PC eating cheese puffs when you think about that?
You wrote a very stupid comment: "in 2011 one will crash" or something like that. Since I work on aircrafts 5 days a week that was really annoying to read. Not to mention all the people who would die (and who died in aircrafts crashes). If you think that is funny you have some serious problem and you should be helped. It seems I'm not the only one who doesn't grasp english properly, look how bad your comment (removed?? congratulations) was rated. Get a life.
i know right ...its scary so many people in the air ..... i mean i know they tested it and stuff but ... like all there baggage not to mention all the people ... thats alot of extra weight lol ... SCARY POO
This is actually called crosswind, not sidewind. It is a windy condition, in which the wind hits the plane on either the left or right side of the plane and often could be perpendicular to the fuselage.
Who gives a fuck. Loser

@kirbienstien you are wrong!
automatic landings are only performed during bad visibility.
and: you dont need a gps to land a plane!
almost every landing is made manually.
