Actually they do, you can be sure in a cross wind situation the pilot is landing the plane and making the wave off decisions ... btw that kind of landing is called a crab landing or crabbing - you fly into the wind to compensate for the cross wind and straighten out just before touchdown so that you dont end up shearing your landing gear due to lateral stress on the wheels and supporting frame.

Well, it's a fact that the aircraft on long range flight are over-encumbered. It'es now a common practice to overbook a flight. So, believe me, a 800+ passenger aircraft, en the most fuel-efficient passenger carrier of the world is far of being a failure.

What I find funny with Boeing lover is that they were very happy to bash Airbus when the 380 was late. And when I see what happened to the 787, they should watch on their own problems before insulting others.

This is actually called crosswind, not sidewind. It is a windy condition, in which the wind hits the plane on either the left or right side of the plane and often could be perpendicular to the fuselage.
