@thejunkyardmaster247 you can find a screen by checking under your faucet. there is usually always a screen there its kinda hard sometimes to get out but all u gota do is take a flat head screwdriver and put in at one side and bend it out there ya go. or if u gota make one get a stainless steel paperclip and roll it as tightly as you can in a spiral that is flat and just use that. ppl ask and looks weird but it realy works.

@iamadness69 Sir, a lighter heats up at a max of 1000 degrees f, if its a really great one... to have any fume being released, the foil would have to be torched for at least 1 and a half nonstop... at 1350degrees since this was my old high school project. Its safe to use a foil screen..but it'll have to be replace every sesh you have, hence there's a chemical they add on the foil which decades after uses..

to make mine i went to a marijuana store i live by bought a bowl piece for $3 came with 5 screens took a rake sawed off the end drilled a hole all the thru the middle and drilled a hole on top towards the end screwed the bowl piece in there and it works perfect

How do these pipes not just burn through when you smoke them? I'm no Dendrologist but that wood looks like normal ceder from Home Depot. Plus I couldn't even imagine how how the outside of the bowl will be when you smoke it. I could only estimate the life span of such a pipe would only be 3-4 bowls and you would have to old it by its stem. But I must admit, you did do a good job on the finish and you made it look good. Kudos to you!

@keld101 no my friend is a daily smoker and used one really often for months and its still good! the inside of the bowl was all covered with weed resin witch kept the wood from burning. And it doest gets hot u can hold it the way u want. but now i only use hardwoods such as Ash, Maple, birtch, oak, etc for my pipes, its much better quality and doesnt tastes like wood at all when u smoke with it

That's a one neat pipe u made, and a one good choice about what to smoke with it. As far as I know pine is not too good for making a pipes/food oriented things, due to it's resin, which as someone pointed, leaves a nasty taste and smell and can be poisonous. Leaved trees (dunno if its a proper name, the trees with leaves basicly) and mostly the fruit trees are best for that purpose as far as I read/heard. Not being a smartass here, just sharing the thought ;)

@BassInUrFayce i made one out of oak, witch is not a soft wood so its hard to burn and tastes almost nothing. Also, i painted the inside of the bowl with weed resin/oil, it prevents the wood from burning even more, its like a weed shield! :P

i wouldnt say thats a nice home made pipe because the first one i made was way better looking than that and it was curved and i made mine all by hand exsept for the hole that goes down the mouth piece heres a link of it pipes.jpg . and to answer the Question at the top whenyou take in smoke keep it in your mouth till it cools then breath it in so that way you wont caught and you want to pack your bowl down desently well so that you dont get scooby snacks

i have made wooden pipes before but when i smoke my filler of choice (i can see by the rastafari collors on that pipe you know what my filler is lol) its realy harsh compared to glass pipes,papers,ect. is there something i can do to reduce/elimiate harshness?

@christian0daspit were they made of pine or something like that? if yes, these types of wood contain resin and are easy to burn, i also noticed they harsh. But i just made a new pipe out of hardwood ( ash) but i didnt try it yet. Im almost certain its not gonna harsh like pine ones because hardwoods do not contain resin and are denser so harder to burn. its probably going to burn and harsh only at the beginning (until the inside of the bowl gets covered by weed resin) then it should be alright!

Would you have any idea how to hollow out the canal from the mouthpiece to the bowl if the pipe bends downwards? I was thinking an iron wire or something, but If you have any idea, that would be much appreciated.

@nade486 i had an idea on how to do that but i never tested it out: You make a staight pipe like the one in the video and you boil it in water or over a bain-marie to make the wood maleable, then give it the shape you want and find a way to let it dry while keeping the shape you gave it. Nothing stops the wood from burning, it just doesn't get hot enough, and it's smoldering not on fire. Granted it will scorch the wood, and over time might burn a hole. Who cares just make another.
