XxWhosThisxX is right..the K20 motor is absolutely solid...my '06 Civic Si has been hittin vtec pretty much everyday multiple times..redlining.....ive gone thru 3 sets of tires and 2 sets of brakes in the 3 years I've had it but the engine is bullet proof and in amazing working condition as it was on DAY ONE.

no the mx5 wouldnt of beaten that Si if he has that extra mod. Where the Si kills it is engineering. Mazda is better off taking the Si on the track, but on a str8 line, the Si's engine has more Consistent pull than the mx-5's motor.

Even with V.valve lift, the torque production is shameful for the K20A2/Z1. Put a turbo on both engines, stock, and the LF 2.0L will make considerably more torque, even though it's slightly oversquare and will carry HP to 8000rpm on stock valvetrain. K20 valve lift is really all it has going for it, that and an exaggerated aftermarket ;)
I agree, With the extra mod, this race would've gone the other way. People don't give the MX5 enough credit. It has a lot of potential and the new 2.0 motor hasn't been tinkered with much. Stock on stock, the race would be even and the MX5 may even be ahead by a little, despite its lesser horsepower. Although it does have the weight advantage.

lol ive been hitting vtec almost everyday in my 2002 rsx type-s and my car is perfectly fine. trust me u can vtec with 200,000 miles on a motor
