@fearthefallen Did you duplicate the drum track? Remember, the one used for the side chain has no output; you send its signal to the bus. It is only the compressor on the synth track that is "reading" the kick drum (remember to select the bus from the side chain option in the drop down menu in the compressor) . The other drum kit should play as normal. But this video explains it well. Make sure you watch it properly, as it's all explained.
Vengeance Multiband Sidechain2. Saves you literally hours when u need sidechaining. No need for bussing and routing. Just add the addon on a track as a plugin/effect and select multiple frequencies to filter through the chain. Try THAT in logic on 4-5 tracks with different chaining ^^
ZacCastellano Sidechaining is best to do outside off the pluggin (so not use the internal fx the pluggin might have) but take the compressor thats in the channel strip.
@wigganation1550 To keep the sidechain sound on your synth or pad simply keep looping the sidechain kick (not the kick that actually plays in the song). So you will not hear any kick playing but you will hear the effect of the sidechain. Hope this helps
@billbo675 thanks man really appreciate it but real quick if u loop any kick its gonna play ? how do i get around that thanks any help is appreciated:)
@DankyDubstep i was thinking prefader was a preamp my bad and would u do a live kick and a muted one on two seperate tracks? and sry bout the hassle thanks for the help ive benn trying 2 do this for months haha
@wigganation1550 Don't try and mute the kick right away because then the sidechain stops for some reason. Instead bring the volume down on the kick all the way to zero an then mute. You should now here the sidechain going in and out with out the kick :) and btw it's no hassle I'm happy to help. We have all been there :0
question, why isnt the compresser being affected by the snare? i didnt catch anything about setting it up to sidechain just the kick. anyway thanks for the tutorial man!
Another cool trick with side compression is to make the send "pre fader". If you hold down your click for 1/2 a sec, you'll see the menu. Then you mute the your "bus" channel. In doing this, you'll have control over the balance of the kick drum track. You can even mute the kick drum track and just have the effect going on its own.
Your threshold level might be set too high. Reverb and delay effects tend to be much quieter and have less "punch" that would activate the compressor to create the effect on your synth. If you crank that threshold down and the ratio up, the compressor might catch some of the reverb/delay on your side-chained input and feed it through. Try that!
i followed this step for step and for some reason it didnt work for me. Ive played around with all the settings but i get nothing. Anyone know what it could be?
this video is fantastic =) there are not many tuts with such a great video quality, and you even learn something watching it =) thx man! feels like you're using logic yourself while watching =)

how do you use sidechaining to affect other aspects and plugins besides the compession, like the cutoff or drive? thanks!

How would you use side chaining with a plugin synth (i.e. NI Massive) that doesnt have the sidechain pulldown menu?

@ZacCastellano Or add a noisegate to the synth instrumentrack and let that DUCK the synth by sidechaining the noisegate from a kicktrack or something

@wigganation1550 change the bus type to pre-fader and mute the kick
DankyDubstep 1 year ago
@DankyDubstep would u turn the prefader on and off with automation or does it matter if its always on?
wigganation1550 1 year ago
@wigganation1550 Do you mean change the bus type to pre-fader using automation? Because I'm almost positive you can't do that.

My side chaining works but it don't side chain my reverb and delay. just the synth gets side chained. does anyone know how resolve this problem?

nice video! it'd be class if you could show what key commands you are using for certain actions, like duplicating the track for example. Cheers
