I just got out of the hospital 2 days ago. i spent a month there. and on the last day when i finally got to leave i showed this song to my doctors...... they didn't like it
When I was twelve I was in the hospital for four weeks because I had pain due to some 'un-diagnosable disease.' They never did found out what it was I had, but what I did get was a narcotics addiction.
I always get chills at "They give me all these flowers and these big balloons, but I don't wana stay in this little room." It's slightly haunting, so I love the upbeat quality of it lol
i totally sung this when they strapped me to a bed in the ER.The cops convinced my roomies to take me the ER for a mental evaluation. I wasn't resisting the doctors at all, I just told them I didn't want to take a sedative, so they switched me to a bed where they strapped my hands and feet down before i went to bed that night because there wasn't enough room in the psych ward. So i sung this to the nurses in doctors, I was sent to st joeseph's ward for 14 days after that. Folk knowledge right?
Do you know where you will be one second after death? Heaven or Hell?
Ever Lied? Stolen? Lusted? Hated someone? Ever taken the Lord's name in vain? If so your on your way to Hell.. But God became a man(Jesus) and took the penalty for your sins on the cross, died, and rose again on the third day defeating death and sin. He commands you to repent (turn away from sin) and put your faith in Him to be saved. Do it today because you might not have tomorrow
This song reminds me so much of my friend Ricky. He passed away from cancer in May 2009. O'berst does a pretty good job of summing up his feelings about being in the hospital.
I was on chemotherapy for over 3 and a half years. I'd spend months at a time in the hospital and the thing about soap operas couldn't be any more true lol. They only had a few channels and it was always soaps!! This song pretty much sums up hospital stays.
@riothero313 spent 2 years in the hospital as well, for cardiomyopathy and a maufunctioning defibrillator. i was 9-10 and then 12-13. what i watched was mostly SPANISH soap operas hahaha. conor's music seems to make sense of everything.. stay strong my friend these things make you understand more about the world. xox
This is a great song - especially live. I can so relate -had my appendix burst and spent almost a week in a hospital - nurses are great but hospitals are the most depressing place in the world - get me outside in the sunshine!
@pushtoon1 yeah you're right, someone said that they envy'd me once and i felt like i had been slapped in the face with a belt. i almost broke down inside. i actually think i did but to them it probably looked like idk like the wailing bald guy on the bridge minus the hands.
Well, I think he met some guy at the hospital. And he was panicing cause he didn't want to die in the hospital. So probably he made it because of that
I'm pretty sure it's Janet Weiss. She's more known as a drummer, in bands like Sleater-Kinney and Quasi, but she does some backing vocals on this album and has played with Bright Eyes before...
Conor Oberst isn't the new Bob Dylan. Conor Oberst doesn't sound like Bob Dylan. He sounds like Conor Oberst. Thats like calling some one else's painting 'effective'. He sucsessfully crossbreeded emo and bluegrass.
No, they don't mean he's exactly the same as Bob Dylan they are saying that he is becoming what Bob Dylan means to people and how effective his music and lyrics are
i heard this in urban outfitters in early august and i was sooo confused haha. i knew it was conor's voice but i was perplexed as to why i didn't have this song because i have every bright eyes song... i did not know about the mystic valley band album...
this song is amazing. "they give me all these flowers and these big balloons but I don't want to stay in this little room". The way he sings it always makes me laugh (for the love of God get the man out of the hospital!!)

Well, indeed Milk Thistle and This song are good, i personally think that Get Well Cards and Souled Out were his best two. THEN closely followed by milk thistle and i dont want to die in the hospital.
