  • I just got out of the hospital 2 days ago. i spent a month there. and on the last day when i finally got to leave i showed this song to my doctors...... they didn't like it

  • When I was twelve I was in the hospital for four weeks because I had pain due to some 'un-diagnosable disease.' They never did found out what it was I had, but what I did get was a narcotics addiction.

  • I always get chills at "They give me all these flowers and these big balloons, but I don't wana stay in this little room." It's slightly haunting, so I love the upbeat quality of it lol

  • I want to die at home

  • i totally sung this when they strapped me to a bed in the ER.The cops convinced my roomies to take me the ER for a mental evaluation. I wasn't resisting the doctors at all, I just told them I didn't want to take a sedative, so they switched me to a bed where they strapped my hands and feet down before i went to bed that night because there wasn't enough room in the psych ward. So i sung this to the nurses in doctors, I was sent to st joeseph's ward for 14 days after that. Folk knowledge right?

  • conor is the must amazing artist ever his lyrics hit true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @HeavenlyBohemian86 I mean most lol

  • @HeavenlyBohemian86 You need to listen to Elliott Smith my friend.

  • does anyone else think of ghe end of BIg Fish when they hear this?

  • @mightdiddles1 I think he's solid, dude.

  • i hope he didnt die in the hospital

  • This song makes me want to undo everything i've done.

  • This song reminds me so much of my friend Ricky. He passed away from cancer in May 2009. O'berst does a pretty good job of summing up his feelings about being in the hospital.

  • I love this song, my brother always goes to their concerts and he called me during this song. It was awesome, but even better on my brother's part

  • I LOVE HIM! okay well i love conor obersts music and his work with bright eyes! definitely worth buying his CDs!

  • I was on chemotherapy for over 3 and a half years. I'd spend months at a time in the hospital and the thing about soap operas couldn't be any more true lol. They only had a few channels and it was always soaps!! This song pretty much sums up hospital stays.

  • When my dad was in the Hospital all he watched was Deal or no Deal and NCIS. sometimes we watched the chapel cam. (yeah we really had one)

  • @riothero313 spent 2 years in the hospital as well, for cardiomyopathy and a maufunctioning defibrillator. i was 9-10 and then 12-13. what i watched was mostly SPANISH soap operas hahaha. conor's music seems to make sense of everything.. stay strong my friend these things make you understand more about the world. xox

  • @riothero313 oo thats sucks

  • hahaahah i love this xD

  • BADASS SONG, LOOVE IT.

  • I saw him before Wilco

Wasnt so impressed, but then I heard this song, and was blown away. This guy has some serious talent.

  • You got to love these guys.

  • This is a great song - especially live. I can so relate -had my appendix burst and spent almost a week in a hospital - nurses are great but hospitals are the most depressing place in the world - get me outside in the sunshine!

  • i saw him play tonight, but i almost fainted and had to get out of the audience...when i got out he was singing this...<3

  • this song is about 5000 times better live

  • agreed times about 5000

  • he played at summerfest i was high as fuck but wata great band holy shit they blew me away!!!!! espicailly this song

  • he played this lastnight in milwaukee.

    it was incredible.

  • @xMaddielion

i envy you in the deepest degree.

  • @Jarederaj you should nevver say that to any ine its like cursing them

  • @pushtoon1 yeah you're right, someone said that they envy'd me once and i felt like i had been slapped in the face with a belt. i almost broke down inside. i actually think i did but to them it probably looked like idk like the wailing bald guy on the bridge minus the hands.

  • mmm i love hillbillies

  • love him, and the new album :]]

  • i've been in the hospital for the past few days, and this song was all i could think of..

  • I work at a hospital, and I agree.

  • I'm in love.

  • The best Conor Oberst song I've heard to date.

And I just heard it today and I learned it on guitar. Very simple.

    Haha.

    Awesome song....

  • I found out why he made this song. Prtety clever :D GO CONOR OBERST!

  • Comment removed

  • why did he make the song??

  • Well, I think he met some guy at the hospital. And he was panicing cause he didn't want to die in the hospital. So probably he made it because of that

  • Didn't I already tell you >_>

  • lol! this is so funy

  • who is the girl singing with him? i really like her voice.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Janet Weiss. She's more known as a drummer, in bands like Sleater-Kinney and Quasi, but she does some backing vocals on this album and has played with Bright Eyes before...

    xo

  • lol you know your stuff :) do you know the name of any other songs she sings with him in?

  • Sorry it's taken so damn long for me to reply... I think that's the only thing she sings with him, could be wrong though.

    xo

  • @CarlRosa "Contrast and Compare"

  • Conor Oberst isn't the new Bob Dylan. Conor Oberst doesn't sound like Bob Dylan. He sounds like Conor Oberst. Thats like calling some one else's painting 'effective'. He sucsessfully crossbreeded emo and bluegrass.

  • No, they don't mean he's exactly the same as Bob Dylan they are saying that he is becoming what Bob Dylan means to people and how effective his music and lyrics are

  • narggle snuase with all these marbles in my mouth

  • i think of bob Dylan

  • dumdum this is his new album

  • hes amazing alot of people compare him to bob dylan well his old stuff more so i guess

  • ahhhh! conor oberst is so great!

  • Conor Oberst <3

  • Hank Williams reincarnation .. Gotta love Conor Oberst and Bright Eyes (: !!

  • Hank Williams?

  • I totally agree. Williams comes to mind when I listen to Oberst sometimes.

  • i love this song [:

  • wow lol i love bright eyes but this song is hanus

  • mmmm looovvveee

  • very good song i saw it live at the variety playhouse in atlanta exalent performance

  • that was an amazing show

the felice brothers were also really good

  • oh you were there too. Ya they were what did you think of rig 1 the first people

  • This is quite a good song, however I find it to sound quite a bit like Arcade Fire's song Antichrist Television Blues as far as rhythm and stuff goes

  • except both songs sound a lot more like a million other songs. doesn't mean they aren't good though

  • i heard this in urban outfitters in early august and i was sooo confused haha. i knew it was conor's voice but i was perplexed as to why i didn't have this song because i have every bright eyes song... i did not know about the mystic valley band album...

  • this song is amazing. "they give me all these flowers and these big balloons but I don't want to stay in this little room". The way he sings it always makes me laugh (for the love of God get the man out of the hospital!!)

  • this song is amazing. "They give me all these flowers and these big balloons but I don't want to stay in this little room" - the way he sings it it's really funny but I feel bad for laughing. Is it supposed to be funny??

  • This song is the best one on the album ... closely followed by Milk thistle .. thanks for putting it up.

  • i agree wholeheartedly

with Get Well Cards at 3rd, and Gone-NYC at 4th

  • Although on relistening to it Danny Callahan is right up there too... so good.

  • Well, indeed Milk Thistle and This song are good, i personally think that Get Well Cards and Souled Out were his best two. THEN closely followed by milk thistle and i dont want to die in the hospital.

  • I agree but i think Sausalito takes 2nd Then Get Well Cards then Gone-NYC

  • Combo Romone and Cash

  • I heard this song today, it is so cool. It has a hint of the Romones IMHO

  • I work in the operating room for a group of spine surgeons. This has become our theme song and we play it for almost every surgical case

  • That's really Ironic.

Conor is my favorite artist and I just found this song. I had spine surgery in february and almost died in the hospital.

  • he played this very very well last night

    Loved it

  • This song makes me dance too, but with my 8 month old son:)

  • this song makes me dance like a lunatic

  • "Help me get my boots on!" and "i don't wanna look like a girl in a sleeping gown" are funny lyrics

  • some parts of this song remind me very much of johnny cash, and that is a very good thing.

  • yep

  • Wow... the country influence is undeniable.

  • i haven't read the credits to this song, but i think Nellie Mckay is singing and playing piano on this song. can anybody verify this?

  • if this is true that would be AMAZING! i'm going to do some research!

  • sorrry

    piano - nate Walcott

    Voice - Janet Weiss

  • that's even better! im a big sleater-kinney fan

  • ...like, Janet Weiss from Rocky Horror? epic.
