Not the first 9 dart finish at any world title event in darts. That title goes to Paul Lim at the BDO titles in 1990. This was the first one at a PDC world titles.

the reason he didnt get too excited he said was because at the grand slam of darts a month before james wade threw a 9 darter and went mad but still lost the match. that was in the back of barney's mind and so kept his emotions in check

@andyscott910 he actually commented on that, he said he carried on normally because he was so much under a pressure and was so worried about winning the game that he could not do anything but try to stay concentrated, and consider the 9 darter as just another leg - forget about the 9 darter, he would be as happy to win it even with an 18 darter.

contrast this to the next year's championship when Barney did a 9 darter on 1st or 2nd round, he knew he was going to win and he was becamse excited

It think what makes barneveld so strong is his mental power. The skill 2 throw well is important but mentallity decides the day. Locking urself off 2 strange flukes etcettera is key. That may be the reason he's showing no emotion like he does AFTER a match, he's in a mental trance that only focuses on the now. Having a few worldchamionships in ur pocket surely wil help him relax ;-)
