So, is the Jaguar worth getting for someone (like me) who likes looking for hidden gems on flop consoles for fun? I've been doing that with the CDi with surprising success, and either the Jaguar or 3DO look like decent choices to do this with.
@MattTheSaiyan: The 3DO has a much bigger library of good games (and hell, a much bigger library period) but the Jaguar is decent. Since you're saying you've been satisfied by the CDi, both are good choices really.
@Bacterions Thanks for the info. I know looking for forgotten gems on unpopular, flop consoles is an odd hobby, but I enjoy it (who knows, maybe I'll do a YouTube video series about it one day!)
I've never seen or played the original Defender, but this looks very cool. Great arcade-style pacing, and the flashy graphics have definite charm. Absolutely amazing soundtrack, too; I actually like the music for this a whole lot better than Tempest 2000's.
I own a Jaguar, with more than a dozen games, plus a Jaguar CD, with Blue Lightning. I have used that controller. It's not made with next-gen gaming in mind (it was made at a point where some innovation was perfectly possible)
The numeric pad crunched a ton of buttons together and made you have to take the time to read a slip cover to see which button did what.
I've had several game consoles from Atari 2600 to PS2. The Jaguar had one of the best controllers of any console. The keypad made the games a lot easier to play. It usually provided instantaneous weapon selection or instant camera angle adjustments.
But it felt so cheap... Honestly I can't beleive it was made in America, it felt like cheap china plastic. Like the Yobo Family Boy. Really Really poor quality plastic. But yes I am one of the few that liked it's layout. Like a Genesis and Celeco Vision had a strange mutant offspring. But all my friends hate it. So I guess it is individually based...
I agree w/u about the cheap feeling. It was Tramiel Atari. The Jag CD also feels cheap and it overheats when I play Battlemorph or Myst for Extended periods-(Tramiel Atari for ya). My old PSX had to be turned upside down in order for it to play properly. I guess I can say the beloved Sony also cut corners here and there.Again the Jag Controller was practical but the plastic did feel like it came from a KMART 25 cent vending machine.

Thanks for giving us a look at this one.

There is a nice defender clone in the making. Search for playniax on you tube or have a look in there website.

Mr. Minter! How about an STe and Falcon version?

Dang, that ship fills up a lot of the screen. I'll bet this is hard to control with that crappy Jag controller.

The Jag controller is great.
Don't believe everything you hear on the internet about the controller. Most people who hate it haven't even given it a chance.
Most people I know who've played the Jaguar have loved the controller.
Anyway, yeah, the ship on the screen is too big.
That's the only problem.
Has nothing to do with the controller.

This game looks awesome. And I too like the Jaguar controller. You can use it for hours in total comfort.
It's weird seeing this video now, although you posted this four months ago. I am currently trying to master Defender II for the NES. Hard!
I wonder if Mark over at The Classic Game Room has played Defender 2000. He loves everything Defender. And, who amoung us doesn't?
Oh, and I'm a new sub. Be gentle. :)
