I like both the Distillers and Spinnerette. To me the only difference is the energy, both energies are good. The Distillers are like a train speeding past you at 5:30am and Spinnerette is like sitting inside the speeding train at 5:30pm.... or maybe it's because i'm stoned hehe.
At first I was being stubborn and a little blinded (or deafened; pot-ay-to, po-tah-to) by my love of The Distillers and sadness that they aren't together anymore. I will always love Brody and I've learned to stop comparing this to The Distillers and I have to say it's growing on me :)
what it is fuck??? -.-... brody you are big singer.... :( that it happens? … because you sing in a so bad group u.u the melodies are boring and neutral… without energy u.u
@AhiYimi16 boring neutral and without energy? geeking, all babes are wolves, sex bomb, ghetto love? obviously she wanted a new sound but that hot babe definitely still has energy.
same, im sick of the people who are constantly comparing the distillers and spinnerette together. its two diffrent genre of music completely. clearly the people complane about it are not right in the head, you wouldnt be a good musican if you didnt expand your talant by trying diffrent styles and ways of writing and performing music.
Knowone forces you to listen to Spinnerette , if you dont like them fair enough , dont listen to them.

the people who like this are probably retarded little 12-17 yr olds who like the new green day sh!t. the distillers were awesome. i grew up listening to them. this is total mainstream crap. i got so excited when i learned brody made a new bad...complete let down. way to be a sell out. im just waiting for the day this is on a car commercial.
@tsross13 how is this selling out when the distillers were on a major record label and this isnt? they are selling far less copies of this then the distiller ever sold, if anything the distillers sold out.
@tsross13 hear hear.. this has got that sound all the music has when you leave a music program going overnight and it gets to the stuff that drives you frustrated. the distillers had sort of a grungier harder nicer sound (in my opinion) with more musical depth than just plain clusterd shallow tripping..but then thats how im hearing it. same with green day, started with punk rock, and like alot of good bands, slid down the funnel into the boring less defined genre hole for teenage girls.
Would everyone be happy if she kept belting out the same stuff for decades? 2 great musicians making babies and beautiful music for our benefit. Holy crap don't you hate that. Go Brody! you just keep getting better! :)
Im a big fan of her, also QOSA . I was really really lookin forward and expecting something new&different music since the distillers broke up. smth different from neither distillers nor qosa.
but Spinnerette sounds too much influenced by qosa to me..
can tell you how josh uses effects & distortions or etc. sounds like a female vocalist in qosa..
i wasnt a real punk fan but i loved the distillers for brody dalle's voice, ernergy attitude (that reminds me kurt) and its such a pity to add distorsion adn robot effect to the best insturment=brody dalle voice
I was absolutely certain it was a guitar, but then I listened carefully and it sounds like she's softly singing along with the guitar. But then again; it's a guitar in the first place:)
That's funny, punk's more marketable these days so The Distillers were pre planned? Doesn't sound anything like QOTSA to me. She was heading this direction on Coral Fang.
it really is a shame! Pre packaged mall pop with Josh Homme hands all over the arrangements and writing; like he's giving birth to a pop experiment..... not saying she isn't into it herself but this just stinks of pre planned execution for a wider audience to sell records ... yes just a shame!
i agree coral fang wasnt punk at all. it was pop. if you want punk go back to her first two albums. this song is the closest thing to coral fang out of all the new songs shes come out with.
Everyone go on about the distiller coral fang album being so punk an d how sad they are now...i found the coral fang to be a good album, but not very punk...reminded me of hole alot actually (i like hole, dont rip my head off, thanks)
and i think spinnerette pretty dope ass. nuff said.
musicians need to progress they cant stay doing the same thing, same sound forever and if they did people would question their ability and get bored. i think people who dislike spinnerette only do so because they are thinking about and comparing them to the distillers. if spinnerette was comprised of unknown artists those people would think differently.
Spinnerette in my opinion is just as good as The Distillers. Spinnerette may not be as punky but it is haunting and equally meaningful in the lyrics department. I'm tired of people not liking this band simply because its not The Distillers.
Sexist? I think not. I watched this interview a while back and I didn't empathize then cause I don't hear any of the distillers in the queens stuff..maybe if I listen REALLY closely but compared to the spinnerette stuff where1st listen was so hard for me to NOT think hey!this sounds like queens lol,for her to say that I was just like NO any queens fan would say it sounds like queens, now is it a bad thing? absofuckinlutely NOT. I love the spinnerettte stuff and I dont care what it reminds me of.
This sexist comment was referring to her husband(s) writing her music which is fucked up but I don't think it's sexist either. It's more of a sadly to say...(and I love brody to death) a pattern it seems and I feel like shit saying this. None of the "your husband writes your songs" ish would be brought up if she wasn't influenced by them so much, she should just take it as she kinda brought it on herself and not call people sexist, we know you write all your songs but the influence is there...
Thanks for the reply yea that's about what I meant people (fanatics) kinda take it the wrong way like you cant say one lil' negative about brody and still dig her music...thats lame and true art should be argued and make people question and I am so ready for the album, doesn't it drop soon? oh and I have to ask...are you a bowie fan? :)
Haha yea I love bowie, my username is pretty much two of my favorite bowie songs ("modern love" and "rosalyn"), guess you recognized and just off the top of my head, I think it comes out on june 23 but don't hold me to it lol :)
Does she just copy the genre of music of whoever is is married to at the time? She was punk with Tim of Rancid, now she has a defienent Josh Homme sound....I bet if she married Garth Brooks she would be singing country songs.
Yeah, I was wondering that. QOTSA is prob one of my fav bands so I'm not complaining (I really like these Spinnerette songs), and they're not overly derivative of any QOTSA stuff, but still... it makes you wonder.

i agree there i really loved distillers and as much as i will try and appretiate the new stuff i think she is going to sell out to be more famous which is a shame
distillers were a sub-par punk band if that. they ironically sounded like rancid and were not doing anything new. with that said, this is a much better step towards actually doing something original. can't say i haven't heard it before (mia/santogold rings a bell) but it's fairly experimental for her. in closing, i like it. decent stuff.
I like it! but i must admit that i liked the distillers more, but what can you do :P people change! and she got married and got a baby!!!! who would've tought, she survived all her shit :)
i think the Spinnerettes want to be different from the other bands that brody has been in like distillers and sourpuss and maybe since she has been married to josh hommes and having a baby made her change her taste in music making and she probz just wanted to try something new and different to what she has been doing.
distillers? poserness? can they realy be put together like that in the sentence? damn, hardly any taste in good music sir cracksnake. But you're right in on one thing, this is some good music
To be honest, I absolutely loved the distillers and I hated the spinerette music when i first heard it coz it wasn't like the distillers. But I think now I get it and respect the new road Brody has taken so now I love it and can't stop listening to spinerette. Nice one Brody! Still so talented to me.
her sound reminds me of Courtney love at times. ;)

How fuckin gorgeous does she look at 1:04?!
So much hotter than distillers brody, with that stupid bright red lipstick and white make-up

She's got an almost model-quality to her sometimes. She has real classic beauty, but yeah, she hides it a lot.

distillers were a sub-par punk band if that. they ironically sounded like rancid and were not doing anything new. with that said, this is a much better step towards actually doing something original. can't say i haven't heard it before (mia/santogold rings a bell) but it's fairly experimental for her. in closing, i like it. decent stuff.

i think the Spinnerettes want to be different from the other bands that brody has been in like distillers and sourpuss and maybe since she has been married to josh hommes and having a baby made her change her taste in music making and she probz just wanted to try something new and different to what she has been doing.
this bands sound isnt all bad
iv heard alot worse

To be honest, I absolutely loved the distillers and I hated the spinerette music when i first heard it coz it wasn't like the distillers. But I think now I get it and respect the new road Brody has taken so now I love it and can't stop listening to spinerette. Nice one Brody! Still so talented to me.
