ive swiped mine over 100 times and the stupid reader doesnt work....i swear they make it super sensitive so that you have to punch in the numbers and they get a greater percentage of your sale

I found the channel on youtube where it says there's a problem with the card reader, metal hitting metal on the iphone 4. He claims it shorts out the reader. Check the channel if you need to. His channel is Applicablegeek.

I saw on a tech site that because of the metal around the iphone 4 you can't put the reader all the way down as in this video because there's a connection problem, is this true? If so are you going to be sending out new readers that work correctly with the iphone 4?

@bergsteinlife you need the card reader, but you need to make sure you have completed your account signup on a computer at the squareup website

I signed up, was approved, and received my card reader and I'm now using it

it's an awesome tool to use in case I need to sell something or someone owes me money or for whatever convenience to use it for. this is definitely awesome financial transaction tool, only thing I'm worried is fraudulent chargebacks and ppl using stolen i.d. and credit/debit cards

hm. What are you guys doing in an what appears to be a parking garage/ unbuilt office? I like the video, it would be funnier if there were some tents and maybe one of those trashcan fires in the background or something.

In other news- just got my device. Love it, although there is a slight bug- when trying to type stuff into the note or email fields, it won't let me use use voice recognition (Sprint HTC EVO). I'm guess this is because the card reader makes the phone think a mic is plugged in.

Got my reader for my Droid X today. Only had a 5 day wait. No probs swiping it either. I agree with the rest of you about the girl in the video detracting from real point of the video. Not like they can be issued for use overseas anyways and I'm pretty sure the amount of people that have or are waiting for their Readers don't give a damn about "Hooked on Phonics" -Swedish Edition!

The (smal) fee is for processing and transactions there's no monthly charges people want everything completely fuckin free nowadays!!! If they didn't charge a (small) fee they would go bankrupt how the hell do y'all think they pay to keep producing these? These little things aren't free for them! I received my reader today as well; made a test payment and it went through just fine!

(though I did have to use the little piece of paper between the Reader and my iPhone 4, otherwise the app wouldn't recognize the Reader as it was shorting out on the iPhone 4's external metal band.)

I received 2 readers today and both do not show the icon when plugging in to my iPhone 4. They both however do show the cross-thru icon when being unplugged. This is a week old iPhone so I'm sure it's not lint in it. Maybe it's an Iphone 4 issue.

@lantzn I got an answer to my issue which did happen to be iP4 related.

The new iPhone 4 design uses a 3-part steel band that acts as an antenna. As a result of this design, the Square Card Reader can malfunction when it comes into contact with the steel band.

An initial workaround:

Poke a hole in a small piece of paper.

Move the piece of paper all the way down to the base of the plug.

Plug in making sure that the paper is between the metal base and the iPhone 4's casing.

@lantzn Dude, its an iPhone 4 problem. Check out their twitter and forums. They said if you put a little bit of paper between the top of the iPhone and the reader, it should solve it. ;)

If your still waiting on your reader make sure you have applied for one. Just because you have an account doesn't mean a free reader. I waited forever that way. Then I realized I had to apply for one. After that it was a matter of a week or so. It works amazingly!

@TheRowans2010 The fee is for using the service... The actual charging of the card and the transfer to your account. You can't possibly think the fee is for the reader.. If you sign up for square and they send you the reader but you don't use it... Guess what? FREE. And in case you didn't realize, you can use the app without a reader at all so what is the fee going towards then?
