this REALLY old hotel is in the middle of town and when i was walking by earlier i noticed a Fallout Shelter sign. im going to contact the owner and see if i can go in or at least take the sign off of the building

these arent that rare in old neigborhoods in fact my grandfather was so scared about nuclear warfare he kept one up and running in his basement with supplies that were issued in the 40s and 50s untill the day he died which was in 2004 the supplies were never used and the shelter is still just siting there when he died we did move the supplies out in to storage and they are great reminders of how we used to be

its not fake...don't just assume. when i lived in Florida there were a couple bomb shelters around me. They were built during the Cuban Missile Crisis just in case of a missile attack. My old history teacher even told me about how they were building them when he was a kid and everyone was freaking out.

That's a possibility. However, I've studied bomb shelters for years and my guess is that that's a secondary escape hatch, should the other become blocked by debris. But you may be right on your guess. I never thought of that one.
