@harbinger123Mark Isn't, Tom Waits "NEVER" wrote, played the kind of music Mark has. You haven't heard the half of it, if you think Waits is anything to compare to Lanegan...
@jczother Neither of these artists are for little kids, Mark is incredibly talented but Waits has a hefty amount of DEEP music as well, the fact that he's half goofball as well shouldn't take away from his deeper products and the fact that Lanegan has refused to delve into as many different styles as Waits doesn't mean that he's preserved his credibility any more. I wouldn't discredit either artist as far as to say they can't loan each other a smoke if it came to it.
@harbinger123 It's bad when you see he "kinda" sounds like Tom Waits, sorry he is a legend. I was a 23 yr old kid the 1st time I seen Mark with the Trees. Deep, Whiskey for the Holy Ghost, this! Now he's still kicking ass with Gutter Twins, QSA, Isabel Cambell. As the post below, his voice sounds different on every song...
Different styles, from Screaming Trees to his stuff with Isabel, are you kidding me. Waits has a raspy voice, so does Mark the end. I don't mean to down him, sorry...
@jczother I have heard Waits and he's great in his way. Mark is still paving, Oh guardian of peace, let the beggar walk the Winter. I hear some influence in a few tunes, but Mark singing "Dollar Bill" sounds like Mark.
"The Jury" was a duo not realised with lanegan and cobain, you can listen the kurt's voice on the album winding sheet. Lanegan and cobain admired Leadbelly (a bluesman)
A great artist ex grunge like Kurt Cobain but alive... I hope another meet with pj Harvey and him for an album of the same quality that Bubblegum. Sorry for my English because I'm french.
It's like Mark just sang exactly how he felt without writing it down or preparing it at all. He does that a lot...captures the exact atmosphere of whatever mood he's in in his music. Bubblegum is one of the best albums in the past decade beyond the shadow of a doubt.
I love Mark Lanegan! His voice sounds different in every single song, but still, it always remains so distinctively his. So full with emotion. How does he do that?!
I was listening to this the other day with my girlfriend, this song made her cry. Lousy Mark! What a beautiful song!
