  • us "older" guys call it a "why bother" lick

  • its slow and easy. If you want practice just play the modes and arpegios up and down or make your own riffs

  • My pinky needs to start working out

  • waoooooooooooooooooo

  • imma stab at what key this is in. F# minor?

  • Comment removed

  • @TreborMarg

thanks lol, just trying to figure out scales by watching :P

  • @BigFriendlyNinja Sounds pretty major to me! :D

    E major!

  • it sounds a little like nyan cat.it's very cool

  • Either he's a giant or his guitar is fucking small

  • @55166143 Or both.

  • @memeej9 yeah maybe that's why

  • haha, this is one of the few exercises I like the sound of ...

  • How could less be more??More is MORE!!!!!!

  • fucking tab please

  • are there notations or a guitar sheet for these notes on the net? i'm very slow, and the video is very fast for me :(

  • i thought that the beggining was the slow version wtf

  • Very technically cool, but it's kinda boring sounding, like sure it's technical but it's very note to note, some other cool licks thrown in there would of made it more spectacular I think. But I guess as a exercise it's not bad.

  • @cloudvol7 Exercises don't need to sound cool, They are there to help with dexterity and speed. If you want something that sounds cool and technical then jump into a Necrophagist solo.

  • Thank you for posting this exercise. For me it's a challenge but it's definitely helping!

  • nice exercise, i like it alot!

  • At full speed, this exercise is still quite slow.

  • THE BEST SINGLE STRING JAM ON UTUBE!!!!!

  • I love it man, thx, if I ever load up any guitar vids (if I ever get a proper camera for that of course) I'll definitely load up this as well and respond it to your vid, might take a couple of years though, probably when I living by myself ;P

But nice exercise, keep it up, mate!!

  • awesome vid man..good exercise

  • Do I have to do exactly like the tab, or can I do some improvisation over the backing track, using the concepts you showed in your video?

  • @Vitaum010 NO YOU HAVE TO DO IT EXACTLY LIKE THE TAB! DEVIANCE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

  • sounds like "Mary had a little lamb of God"

  • Thanks for the exercise. I checked out the tab which indicates different positions. Instead of creating your own "positions" would it be easier and more universal just to use the fret numbers as position, so when you say "position 4" everybody knows that means first finger at the 4th fret, instead of making up your own thing that needs to be deciphered. So now not only am I trying to learn the exercise, I need to check your diagrams for position instead of knowing 5th position is 5th fret etc

  • wow.. lmaoo

  • good Exercise !!!

  • Uh, hello folks, it's an exercise. Can I say it again, exercise, anyone who know's anytthing at all about guitar playing will tell you, these exercises are just that exercises. They are extremely effecient at improving your technique. Believe me in order to really play, you must have the technique but there's more to it than that, you've got to know when to use it, and how to use it combined with bends, slides, etc. Otherwise your always gon sound like your practicing. Use your licks with feel

  • sounds like a mario song or something

  • GREAT!!!

  • hi thanks for the excersize!

i was wondering if you would know why my finger slips off the strings.

Its very slippery. I use my finger tips. . Please help me!

  • @Bananapancakes777 if ur fingers slip off the strings it usually becuz u havnt built up enough calus on ur fingers tips, calus not only helps hold the string down but keeps grip on the strip becuz the skin is much rougher, but it also takes practice on controlling ur fingers so if ur fingers are calused the only thing u can do is keep practicing control

  • @xxXXILLXXxx Or older strings can become smooth.

  • @Bananapancakes777 have you built up calluses? that could be a reason why. calluses are crucial to guitar playing believe it or not..so find and exercise to build those as well... hope it helps

  • To be honest, I think it's not so much the speed that changes the melody, but the fact it's not being played with the backing track.

  • my excersises r fukn sick harmony 1s

  • The "Slow" part sounds like a fucking lullaby. I almost fell asleep.

  • Hi, i have a problem to play fast with my right hand, the problem is i know how to play fast with the right hand but almost always i miss the chords, especially in d, can someone help?

    Write a message.

  • THANKS A LOT FOR THIS

  • i ve got to learn this gay shit!!lmao

  • I love seeing his 'baby' finger moving fastly

  • @AmericanMinuteman yea i know, but i was just answering this guy who was old and wise with his fucking hollowbody gibson who couldnt play an ac/dc lead...

  • playin fast gets the chicks wet, that's all i'm sayin

  • i gotta learn that song!

  • it isnt fast but easy to play and you also will look "cool"

  • Ha, I thought the first one was going to be the slow version.

  • That wasn't fast

  • i want to play fast so i can play stuff like light my fire's solo, and la villa strangiato, etc

  • "young" people like your saying want to be fast stronger and better thats the reason for example santana if u compare the speed of his solos along with yngwie, kirk, vai, eddie, etc hes is slow as hell, BUT he have an orgasmic tone and bet u that no one can use the pentatonic better than he

  • was that spose to be fast...or what?

  • no, its an exercise to build up speed, the tempo can be varied to make it faster. Id now like to refer you to the video info to the right --->

read it and it will tell you everything you need to know

  • you can play it fast

  • sigh.. im getting so sick of "old" or "older" people bashing on shredding.. im in my 30´s and i still play fast.. stuff like this makes me think you and everyone who bashes shredding just gave up, and are venting the frustration against people who actually had the dicipline to sit down and develop the finger muscles to actually play fast.. and why are you watching a speed excersise vid if you think it sucks?? envy is a bad thing!..

  • @gooksftw so true :D

  • @gooksftw its also a sin.

  • @gooksftw Nothing wrong with shredding but if you look at guitarists like Steve Lukather, he is one of the complete guitar players. He can do it all.

  • @gooksftw I looked through all of the comments and none of them were bashing on shredding. And just because someone doesnt like something doesnt mean they cant play it.I know a 70 year old man who hates shred and anything associated with it but guess what?He can play ac/dc solos.I saw him play fade to black start to finish. Its definitely not about how fast you can play its about emotion. And thats what moste metal and things of that sort lack. And this is coming from a metal fan.

  • @lumaric01 metal has one emotion almost every other genre lacks though, which is agression... im not saying you said that no metal musician at all plays with feeling but listen to the works of dimebag then you'll know that headbangers can play solos with emotion too.

  • @gooksftw You make a good point. I bashed on playing fast (shredding) in my 20s. It wasn't until my 40s when I picked up the guitar again that I realized that the whole reason I bashed it was because I just gave up like a pussy. Doing exercises like this on a regular basis really works to build up speed, so don't give up!

  • @gooksftw Congrats, you're another clone speed-machine. The problem with shred-guitarists is that they never learn to cultivate their originality or put any emotion into what they play other than "OH GOD THIS IS SO FAST AND I'M SO ANGRY." Clearly not everyone, but that's usually the case. Shredding is useful and it's a musical technique, but shredding exclusively makes for a completely useless guitarist who will never do anything with his music other than play with some YouTube videos alone.

  • @gooksftw I'm only 23, been playing about 5 years and I still spend every day trying to build up the speed muscles to shred. Problem is I spend too much time learning other songs and improvising rather than practicing techniques. I don't know why people knock on shredding. Shredding always sounds badass when thrown in with a few bends to show some soul. The only shred technique I never really cared for was the sweep. I don't know why people are hating on shred guitar or talent.

  • @gooksftw

    +2

  • @gooksftw yes man!!! i've been 39 tomorrow and after a little stop (13 years) i'm suffering to take what was mine!!! and i will got!!!!

  • @gooksftw There are two schools of thought when it comes to "shredding". I appreciate the application of speed when it comes to music, and the masters understand when there is a time to play with speed versus the moment when you create mood with tempo and timing. I appreciate the time and discipline it takes to play fast while playing clean. However, speed simply as a devise and nothing more is another matter. I don't believe it has to do with envy as much as it does taste and style.

  • @gooksftw I'm in my 40s now and was in a few bay area thrash bands 85 to 93, some of my inspirations then were Becker, Gilbert and Uli Roth, but also players like Gilmour and Vaughn. Back then a lot of ppl were bashing players for not shredding. Then about 92 the "young" or "younger" people started bashing shredding LOL I always thought everyone was wrong and that both mixed together are what made the best music. I think playing just one style is like playing in just Maj or min keys.

  • Ya I agree. I'm fairly young and ever since I started playing guitar (18) I always appreciated the way a guitar player phrased a lick or how unique the lick and style was, not how fast he played. I think Mark Knopfler gets away with his fast playing because it is so unique. No one plays like that guy.

  • I got prob with Barre chords, damn

  • Buy an electric with low action.

  • thats just the natual major scale in A....

  • I don't think that. I suppose I would consider myself young.

  • true and most fast solos dont hit that feel good nerve as they lose melody with the repetativeness , i like solos that bring out emotion, speed possibly brings out certain emotion, but most speed solos sound alike. i like rick brewster from the angels, " no secrets and songs like that

  • are you strumming?

  • @DanielGulutz

    I LOL'ED at Danielgulutz's comment!

  • what am i suppossed to just do this and that'll help my speed?a little talking might help

  • Strange how the Speed completely changes the sound of the Melody.

  • Speed, and another guitar in the backing track playing a harmony. Makes a big difference, I agree, both the speed and the harmony.

  • @yakomuto

It's not so much the speed that changes the melody but the fact that when he played the examples slowly, he did not have a backing track to complement his melody. Sure speed plays a part in rythm but the major difference you heard was the missing backing track to his melody.

  • @yakomuto its because the intruments behind the melody(drums) stay the same usually

  • What if I want to learn the bass track for this <.<

I suppose I could do it by ear, but Im a lazy fuck.

    Tab? xD

  • Isn't it the E Major Scale?

It's an okay thing to practice I guess :)

  • thanks it helps me a lot

  • helpd me alot!

  • Still Speedy

  • Speedy
