Theirs so many things wrong with the point she's trying to make in this video it's scary. World poverty can not be fixed easily. All wealthy countries can do to help poor countries is send them food so that they don't starve themselves to death. But ultimately what difference will that make, it weakens our countries economy (Our economy is already in the shitter) while only helping the residents of a poor country live for a little longer. So let our world leaders worry about our economy for now.

Fact, your makeup, clothes, and bed were made by children working in sweatshops and some of which died as a result of poor working conditions. Fact, nearly 3 people die every day as a result of tireless work to bring you goods. Fact, the cost of living is different for every country, so although 2 dollars a day might buy you nothing,in some countries that's enough to get you fed,clothed,and live a good life. It would take 3 Earths for everybody to live equally but it seems we only have one. People don't seem to realise that if all people lived equally, we'de all be dead by now. Sure extreme poverty is sad and something should be done about it, but do you really think anybody is going to do something about it. On the plus side, we have enormous influences on African countries meaning easy access to its resources. We're gaining more and more influence in Africa; we will soon control their entire food supply, and consequently who lives and dies. So I guess I'd agree there, please contribute to end world poverty. Might as well contribute to the glorious 'war against terror,' and develop some new 'defense' technology to save American lives while you're at it.
We send Africa food/aid to keep their economy crippled, NOT to save African lives. Rather then providing them with agricultural technology and tools (which we could easily do), we keep them dependant on our food aid by flooding their markets with free food. We caused the starvation in the first place by flooding the market with food so cheap; all their farmers went out of business.
You take for truth that world poverty can end. Read up on your history. Attempts to end world poverty have been tried a countless number of times before. What did we get? More people in poverty, and strained natural resources. However, props on your good intentions.

The average life expectancy in Africa is only 54 years. Due to Aids this figure is expected to drop to less than 41 years by the end of the decade. Doesn't this weaken the argument of having lots of children to ensure adequate financial support when old since most Africans do not reach old age?
Firstly i'll clarify that I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just trying to explain why it happens..ie culture, poverty,women not having much say etc. The key word in your statistic for life expectancy is 'average'.Africans still live to their 80s, 90s but those dying young bring down the average greatly.
I also think there's a clear trend anywhere in the world where richer people have fewer kids for whatever reason. I do think fairtrade is definitely the key. Our downfall is clearly our corrupt govts. and I'm getting the message that 'handouts' channeled through them is futile and does not reach those that need it. Aid is also being compared to welfare which has only lead to an attitude of complacency and dependence.

On the plus side, we have enormous influences on African countries meaning easy access to its resources. We're gaining more and more influence in Africa; we will soon control their entire food supply, and consequently who lives and dies. So I guess I'd agree there, please contribute to end world poverty. Might as well contribute to the glorious 'war against terror,' and develop some new 'defense' technology to save American lives while you're at it.

We send Africa food/aid to keep their economy crippled, NOT to save African lives. Rather then providing them with agricultural technology and tools (which we could easily do), we keep them dependant on our food aid by flooding their markets with free food. We caused the starvation in the first place by flooding the market with food so cheap; all their farmers went out of business.

The general idea behind the culture of having lots of kids is that since you are poor you are gonna need many children to support you financial when you are old. Other reasons too...but "breeding" is a RESULT of poverty, therefore minus poverty= less "breeding". HOWEVER, simply pouring money in our direction is doing more harm than good. The average life expectancy in Africa is only 54 years. Due to Aids this figure is expected to drop to less than 41 years by the end of the decade. Doesn't this weaken the argument of having lots of children to ensure adequate financial support when old since most Africans do not reach old age?

Firstly i'll clarify that I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just trying to explain why it happens..ie culture, poverty,women not having much say etc. The key word in your statistic for life expectancy is 'average'.Africans still live to their 80s, 90s but those dying young bring down the average greatly.

I also think there's a clear trend anywhere in the world where richer people have fewer kids for whatever reason. I do think fairtrade is definitely the key. Our downfall is clearly our corrupt govts. and I'm getting the message that 'handouts' channeled through them is futile and does not reach those that need it. Aid is also being compared to welfare which has only lead to an attitude of complacency and dependence.

What about the poverty that has been CAUSED by people like Robert Mugabe (look him up), or Hugo Chavez?
