Maybe. Last election the NDP candidate dropped out after it was reviled he got naked in front of teenage girls at a wilderness camp. So we had a single Liberal candidate, who was a strong environmentalist, running against Lunn, unopposed and still lost.
Lunn is not as popular as MacKay but is still popular.

Oh sword, Elizabeth May sucessfully ran the Sierra Club of Canada for many years prior to becoming the leader of the Green Party of Canada. I'd say she is doing a very good job as the GPC leader, so I don't really understand what you're basing your statement on.
I do however agree with you on one point; there are lots of uninformed opinions being thrown about on youtube by those who are better at speaking than they are at listening.

you know global warming has to happen beacause we learned in school that it happenes naturally all the time but we do contrubute to it alot with the C02 that we put into the atmosphere and it speeds up the natural warming and freezing cycle. i'm just wondering do you even know what the greenhouse affect is?
@Gardenstatehomecomin Did you know that the current level of CO2 is 385 PPM and back when the dinos were here it was over 4000PPM. Did you know that every commercial greenhouse has CO2 generators to bring the levels up over 1000PPM to help the plants grown stronger and faster?
Did you know that man's total contribution to CO2 levels in less than 1% of the total in the air now?
Did you know that this whole global warming scam is just a way for some people to make lots of money from us?
@Gardenstatehomecomin Did you also know that instead of worrying about CO2, we should be stopping polution of our water by cities dumping raw sewage directly into them i.e. the city of Victoria has a large pipe that goes 12 miles off shore into the pacific ocean and dumps all their raw sewage there.
This is what we should be fighting against not CO2, we could live very nicely with much higher levels and the plants and crops would grow very well everywhere. WIN WIN
Your short list of climate change deniers only shows that the Flat Earth Society is alive and well, funded in large part thanks to the oil&gas industry.
The Denial Machine investigates the roots of the campaign to negate the science and the threat of global warming. It tracks the activities of a group of scientists, some of whom previously consulted for Big Tobacco, and who are now receiving donations from major coal and oil companies.
peakyone, you are ignorant of the facts, and are misinformed. The Green party would capitalize on the huge opportunity for sustainable green energy technologies, while some are content to remain addicted to dwindling supplies of fossil fuels. The Greens have a transitional program that takes into account our need for energy. While a certain other political party has done very little to ensure a sustainable and secure energy future, the Greens have carefully thought it through.
GREEN IS THE NEW RED. This green movement is the start of another communist movement. She is a great danger to our way of life. If she had her way, all industry would end in Canada. She wants to shut down the coal fired generating plants across Canada, as well as the nucular ones. We would be left without power and in the dark, just like she is. Our power comes from industry and every thing should be done to help it, not try to kill it. Fuck the polar bears we wnat to eat and be warm.
A common criticism of strategies to supplement or replace fossil fuel & nuclear with efficiency, conservation & green energy technologies is the incorrect assumption that we "need more energy". We only need more if we decide not to change. Why not change? Don't fearmonger; change will do us good.
Please inform yourself by reading PT1 & 2 of the Green Party's platform here:
I suggest you inform yourself because there are thousands of scientist that disagree with your position on global warming. You are just ingoring the facts because you are part of this green hoax.
There are not thousands, but only a handful, and most of them have links to the oil and gas industry, while the rest are "scientists" in fields unrelated to climatology.
You think there are thousands, but you have been fooled. Show me the list.
30 years. We already have dropped 5.9 degrees celcius in the last 3 years. This means we are going into a global cooling period. So much for your global warming crap. This global warming thing was started to give the wealth of rich countries to poor countries. It was and is a scam. Unfortunately the young people bought into it and believe it to be real. Higher levels of CO2 will not do any damage to our world, it will make it better because of the higher O2 levels that will come.
So you're telling us that ocean islands lost due to swelling oceans, loss of coastal land where huge populations of poorer people worldwide live, species loss, loss of crop productivity due to higher global temperatures and other results of current and future climate change are good?!?
Why some people think they know more that the scientific community on this issue is baffling.
Please go to gristmill[DOT]grist[DOT]org[SLASH]skeptics and get educated on the real facts.
The ocean's water levels have not gone up 1 MM in the last 100 years. If you don't believe me ask the harbour master in Saint John, N.B. This swelling of the oceans is just a hoax by your friend Al Gore. Check it out and you will see. What you guys forget it that there are two sides to every story. The are many in the science community that don't share your views. Quite a few think we are going into global cooling starting now.
That's your answer to everything is it not. If we dare to disagree the oil companies are behind it. You tree huggers are all the same. Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up. By the time 2010 rolls around and the temperature is lower again, will you still be yelling global warming?
What you are not taking into consideration is that higher levels of CO2 will allow plants to generate higher levels of O2. Higher O2 levels will help people with breathing problems. In Canada, if the temperature did increase a degee or two it would be wonderful, we could grow more products that are just iffy now. We would need less heating in the winter etc. I would look forward to global warming if it were real. No sun spots for 400 days now and we are told temps will drop a lot over the next
listen moron, there's a difference between the CO2 output from cellular respiration and the CO2 that is emitted by industry polluters and automobiles. you can't lump greenhouse gas aggregation in the various strata as being 'air'. furthermore, the environment is NOT the only thing on her mind. she has discussed her vision for broadening Canada's economy by investing in new technologies, and current ones that are effective. when will you fucking conservatives learn!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I didn't know that there were different CO2.
We conservatives will learn about greenhouse gases when you tree huggers admit that the biggest greenhouse gas is water vapor. We have reached the maximum level of oil production so we have to learn conservation as well as other sources of energy. To call CO2 a polutant is just plain stupid. All the CO2 that mankind puts into the air is less than 3% of the total. Any reduction will be meaningless in the big picture. Get your facts right hugger.
This is the thinking which will kill our planet. I was honestly surprised that ppl are still holding onto these perceptions. Even if the 3% figure is right, thats still a lot. Think about this...the amount of CO2 in the air is probably less than 1% of the total molecules in the air. When this delicate system goes out of balance it brings a whole bunch of problems.
Boy you guys are stupid. CO2 levels are currently at about 300 parts per million. During the Jerasic period their were up to about 6000 parts per million, thus the very large plants. If the levels drop below 200 parts per million, plants will not grow. Green houses have CO2 generator to bring the level to about 1000 inside the greenhouse to help the plants grow quickly. Learn some facts before you follow these people so blindly, they are the ones that could fuck up the world.
Now you're resorting to attacking my intelligence. And I thought we were going to have a civil conversation. Listen, CO2 levels have been significantly higher than any other level for the past 20 million years. And what is good for plants is not necessarily good for today's Eco-system. We are worried about TODAY, not 65 million years ago. Plants won't grow more but they may evolve which is why plants in the Jurassic period are non-existent today.
Don't post wrong information sir. And it was YOU who posted the red herring about the 65 million years ago. My 20myr was relevant because we haven't seen CO2 concentrations since then. 1500 saw concentrations of under 300ppm. We are now at 385 ppm. Show me a chart that says otherwise.
here's another fact FYI. Your point about large plants with higher CO2 levels is overly simplistic. You're not taking into account the increase of decomposition for the yearly cycles. This would result in a net balance. Also, "if increased CO2 led to warming in the polar latitudes this could trigger mass decomposition of the accumulated peat which would then increase CO2 concentrations even more."
Yes water vapour is the largest greenhouse gas; however, I don't know if you understand its' effect. As the atmosphere warms further, the amount of water vapour increases: this is basic science. By this definition, it is a feedback loop that can only be stopped once we regulate and eliminate other greenhouse gases that we can CONTROL ie. CO2. Once we get rid of CO2, the climate drop and then water vapour levels will drop. This is why we need to act now before water vapour levels get too big.
You have it backwards guy. The levels of CO2 increases hundred of years after the temperature increases. CO2 has nothing to do with global warming, all it will do it make the plants go faster and give off more O2.
You can not control the amount of water vapour that is a products mainly of how hot the sun gets. We are now going through a peroid of no sun spots and the forcast is not good for about the next 30 years. We will must likely go into a mini ice age.
im not ur guy, friend. What you need to remember is that living plants currently only act as sinks to suck up 97% of the CO2 currently in the atmosphere. This 97% can be attributed to natural causes (ie. decomposing matter). The fact that we are burning fossil fuels and cutting down trees helps to destroy this balance. My argument about water vapour has already been shown.
Now solar activity had been decreasing for the last 20 years yet why was there no decrease of temperature? It was "the fingerprint of greenhouse gases". "The IPCC...concluded that since temperatures began rising rapidly in the 1970s, the contribution of humankind's greenhouse gas emissions has outweighed that of solar variability by a factor of about 13 to one".
The high levels of CO2 are affecting the oceans in a negative way, causing acidification and destruction of coral ecosystems. Peakyone, I'm sure you have a non-scientific erroneous "good enws" twist to this, but the reality is that human caused increases in GHG emissions are changing the Earths climate.
May is the Canadian, Female, Greenthumb Obama. She offers her opinions straight to the point and with calm conviction, which is a great leadership quality, and is highly intelligent and researched. Steven Harper's a timid fart in the wind that makes Canada a joke.
May's committed to what's best and most logical for a bright Canadian future.
Elizabeth May had my vote as soon as the other political leaders threatened not to show at the debates if she was there. What are they afraid of? I guess on oct 2 we'll see.
ill never vote green but thanks, shes a good person shes not a natural born leader shes a mom, we need a person in power that can take shit and deal it out also, not a women bowing down to everything non violent, i might be in the army but the military is more pro enviroment then the green party, to bad the military couldnt be in Control crime would go down and the enviroment would be cleaned thats for damn sure lol, im not bullshiting either im tird of picking up garbage.
Im a Canadian Forces Soldier and if you people vote in her things...... are going to happen......... this Country would go right out the fucking window, id lose my job who the fucks gona protect us, america ?? Lord hear my Prayer.
A lot of Canadians are praying for Elizabeth May and the Green Party of Canada to do well in this election. There are prayers for Canadians to hear the Green Party's message this election.
You might have some preconceptions about what the Greens want to do for Canada. I suggest you have a look at the policies posted on their website, and maybe contact your local candidate... you can even try the relevant GPC Shadow Cabinet member.
I'm seriously considering voting green as well. She just announced the party's platform, and it involves high speed rail trains between major cities! Finnaly someone who is going to do the things that need to be done here. Enough of 'letting the markets run EVERYTHING'. I'm an economist, but too much is too much. Somethings have to be taken control of for the better, in my opinion.
Ok party leaders should not be allowed to be in the debates when their party doesn't have a parliament member. We're gonna end up having leaders from the PC's and the Marijuana Party wanting to have their chance to debate the big names.
The Green Party has an MP. Independent Blair Wilson was an Independent and joined the GPC shortly before the election was called.
Besides, there are other factors that put the Greens in the category of major national party. They received over 600,000 votes last election, they have placed second and third in byelections, and have the support of millions of Canadians.
No other party outside of the major 5 can even come close to that record.
She is a Green. She helped to found the Green Party in Canada many many years ago.
She did work under Mulroney. She is not so partisan as to not work with the government to do good things for the environment. Unfortunately she had to resign after poor environmental decisions were made by the Tories. That was a long time ago.
She is now the leader of the Green Party of Canada, but the Reformed Cons seem to think she's a Liberal, and the NDP keeps trying to label her a Tory.
i might vote for the green party. simply because they are for the legalization of marijuana. thats about the only thing they talk about that i have an interest in. if i could go to a store and buy some weed i might start smokeing again lol
not that i'm a pot head. but its the only topic they have tal;ked about i knew anything about or had an interest in. plus i always feel for the underdog lol
Crusader I'm not gonna tell you to vote for a specific party but that is a ridiculous reason to vote for them, there are much bigger reasons to vote for certain parties. BTW NDP would legalize weed too haha.
I love this woman and have seen her speak. I find it so hard to believe that she is still not allowed in on the debates. What are they afraid of? There is a petition right now on the green party site to the Canadian Journalists on finally letting her on ..at the very least it would make the debates far more interesting, can't wait to see the men keep up with her!
Dans le domaine de la politique canadienne, Madame May est une vraie bouffée d'air frais. Elle aurait intérêt à se faire connaître un peu plus au Québec.
Go Elizabeth Go! I have had the privilege of working some with her in the last 8 months--she is the most honest, open, and transparent politician I have ever seen.

Of course Ms. May respects the position of PM. What she doesn't support is Harpers "reforma-tories" style of "governing" Canada.

CamWig 3 years ago
GREEN IS THE NEW RED. This green movement is the start of another communist movement. She is a great danger to our way of life. If she had her way, all industry would end in Canada. She wants to shut down the coal fired generating plants across Canada, as well as the nucular ones. We would be left without power and in the dark, just like she is. Our power comes from industry and every thing should be done to help it, not try to kill it. Fuck the polar bears we wnat to eat and be warm.
peakyone 3 years ago
A common criticism of strategies to supplement or replace fossil fuel & nuclear with efficiency, conservation & green energy technologies is the incorrect assumption that we "need more energy". We only need more if we decide not to change. Why not change? Don't fearmonger; change will do us good.

I suggest you inform yourself because there are thousands of scientist that disagree with your position on global warming. You are just ingoring the facts because you are part of this green hoax.
peakyone 3 years ago
There are not thousands, but only a handful, and most of them have links to the oil and gas industry, while the rest are "scientists" in fields unrelated to climatology.
You think there are thousands, but you have been fooled. Show me the list.

30 years. We already have dropped 5.9 degrees celcius in the last 3 years. This means we are going into a global cooling period. So much for your global warming crap. This global warming thing was started to give the wealth of rich countries to poor countries. It was and is a scam. Unfortunately the young people bought into it and believe it to be real. Higher levels of CO2 will not do any damage to our world, it will make it better because of the higher O2 levels that will come.
peakyone 3 years ago
So you're telling us that ocean islands lost due to swelling oceans, loss of coastal land where huge populations of poorer people worldwide live, species loss, loss of crop productivity due to higher global temperatures and other results of current and future climate change are good?!?
Why some people think they know more that the scientific community on this issue is baffling.

Quite a few think we are going into global cooling starting now.
peakyone 3 years ago
Go to the link above. If you don't it's clear to everyone that you're closed-minded, and simply suffer from confirmation bias.
There IS consensus in the scientific community. You're probably referring to the non-climatologists who are funded by the oil companies. Google it.
CamWig 3 years ago
That's your answer to everything is it not. If we dare to disagree the oil companies are behind it. You tree huggers are all the same. Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up. By the time 2010 rolls around and the temperature is lower again, will you still be yelling global warming?
peakyone 3 years ago
I won't confuse you with facts.

"The are many in the science community that don't share your views. Quite a few think we are going into global cooling starting now."
I was calling it "global cooling" back in April when much of Canada was still being snowed on and the temperature was at the freezing point or lower.
betterthanyou2007 3 years ago
What you are not taking into consideration is that higher levels of CO2 will allow plants to generate higher levels of O2. Higher O2 levels will help people with breathing problems. In Canada, if the temperature did increase a degee or two it would be wonderful, we could grow more products that are just iffy now. We would need less heating in the winter etc. I would look forward to global warming if it were real. No sun spots for 400 days now and we are told temps will drop a lot over the next

blaisejones 3 years ago
She has only one thing on her little mind and even that is wrong. She can't even tell you how much co2 is in the air.
peakyone 3 years ago
how much CO2 is in the air???
listen moron, there's a difference between the CO2 output from cellular respiration and the CO2 that is emitted by industry polluters and automobiles. you can't lump greenhouse gas aggregation in the various strata as being 'air'. furthermore, the environment is NOT the only thing on her mind. she has discussed her vision for broadening Canada's economy by investing in new technologies, and current ones that are effective. when will you fucking conservatives learn!
canadaguy666 3 years ago 5
This comment has received too many negative votes show
I didn't know that there were different CO2.
Get your facts right hugger.
peakyone 3 years ago
This is the thinking which will kill our planet. I was honestly surprised that ppl are still holding onto these perceptions. Even if the 3% figure is right, thats still a lot. Think about this...the amount of CO2 in the air is probably less than 1% of the total molecules in the air. When this delicate system goes out of balance it brings a whole bunch of problems.
blaisejones 3 years ago
Boy you guys are stupid. CO2 levels are currently at about 300 parts per million. During the Jerasic period their were up to about 6000 parts per million, thus the very large plants. If the levels drop below 200 parts per million, plants will not grow. Green houses have CO2 generator to bring the level to about 1000 inside the greenhouse to help the plants grow quickly. Learn some facts before you follow these people so blindly, they are the ones that could fuck up the world.
peakyone 3 years ago
Now you're resorting to attacking my intelligence. And I thought we were going to have a civil conversation. Listen, CO2 levels have been significantly higher than any other level for the past 20 million years. And what is good for plants is not necessarily good for today's Eco-system. We are worried about TODAY, not 65 million years ago. Plants won't grow more but they may evolve which is why plants in the Jurassic period are non-existent today.
blaisejones 3 years ago
Where are you getting your information from, the funnies. CO2 levels have been higher than now back in the 1500, no need to go 20 million years ago.
peakyone 3 years ago
Don't post wrong information sir. And it was YOU who posted the red herring about the 65 million years ago. My 20myr was relevant because we haven't seen CO2 concentrations since then. 1500 saw concentrations of under 300ppm. We are now at 385 ppm. Show me a chart that says otherwise.
blaisejones 3 years ago
here's another fact FYI. Your point about large plants with higher CO2 levels is overly simplistic. You're not taking into account the increase of decomposition for the yearly cycles. This would result in a net balance. Also, "if increased CO2 led to warming in the polar latitudes this could trigger mass decomposition of the accumulated peat which would then increase CO2 concentrations even more."
blaisejones 3 years ago
Yes water vapour is the largest greenhouse gas; however, I don't know if you understand its' effect. As the atmosphere warms further, the amount of water vapour increases: this is basic science. By this definition, it is a feedback loop that can only be stopped once we regulate and eliminate other greenhouse gases that we can CONTROL ie. CO2. Once we get rid of CO2, the climate drop and then water vapour levels will drop. This is why we need to act now before water vapour levels get too big.
blaisejones 3 years ago
You have it backwards guy. The levels of CO2 increases hundred of years after the temperature increases. CO2 has nothing to do with global warming, all it will do it make the plants go faster and give off more O2.
You can not control the amount of water vapour that is a products mainly of how hot the sun gets. We are now going through a peroid of no sun spots and the forcast is not good for about the next 30 years. We will must likely go into a mini ice age.
peakyone 3 years ago
im not ur guy, friend. What you need to remember is that living plants currently only act as sinks to suck up 97% of the CO2 currently in the atmosphere. This 97% can be attributed to natural causes (ie. decomposing matter). The fact that we are burning fossil fuels and cutting down trees helps to destroy this balance. My argument about water vapour has already been shown.
blaisejones 3 years ago
Now solar activity had been decreasing for the last 20 years yet why was there no decrease of temperature? It was "the fingerprint of greenhouse gases". "The IPCC...concluded that since temperatures began rising rapidly in the 1970s, the contribution of humankind's greenhouse gas emissions has outweighed that of solar variability by a factor of about 13 to one".
blaisejones 3 years ago

We're gonna end up having leaders from the PC's and the Marijuana Party wanting to have their chance to debate the big names.
kingeglinton 3 years ago
The Green Party has an MP. Independent Blair Wilson was an Independent and joined the GPC shortly before the election was called.
Besides, there are other factors that put the Greens in the category of major national party. They received over 600,000 votes last election, they have placed second and third in byelections, and have the support of millions of Canadians.
No other party outside of the major 5 can even come close to that record.

Elizabeth May is a tory. She worked in Mulroney's gov't.
mystrial 3 years ago
She is a Green. She helped to found the Green Party in Canada many many years ago.
She did work under Mulroney. She is not so partisan as to not work with the government to do good things for the environment. Unfortunately she had to resign after poor environmental decisions were made by the Tories. That was a long time ago.
She is now the leader of the Green Party of Canada, but the Reformed Cons seem to think she's a Liberal, and the NDP keeps trying to label her a Tory.
