Still a bit dumb, wish it was different for you guys. :) Here in Finland you can easily register 80s and early 90s JDM-cars but late 90s is harder and 00s is impossible I think. You sure it's not the same case than in Europe, you need to change things like lights to EU accepted ones before you can register the car and get the plates. It's dumb I know but that's how it is. Probably same case in the US, ask around. There's most likely lots of US shops that focus on JDM imports and do the modification work for you for a small extra fee.

i've been driving skyline and silvia cars (and 180-240sx replicas) for years. from the sound of it i'd say it's time for a new gearbox (or atleast a rebuild). just because someone can afford the car, doesn't mean that they know how to drive it... the GT-R's are designed to be driven by professionals. the engine trans and driveline are built in a cleanroom... nobody but nissan, and formula1 do that for a car...

doesn't matter, "dog box" or not... if he's grinding trans, his trans input shaft is still spinning... hasn't left the clutch in long enough to let the input shaft stop spinning, and as for the grind between gears, he's shifting too slow and his syncro's are worn out,or if it's a non syncro box, he's not double clutching, or rev matching. possibly he's trying to rev-match but is missing it.

yes it is a dog box, but yout meant to hold the clutch in for about 3 seconds before selecting 1st to allow the gears to stop spinning as it does not use syncros. and when up shifting you are not meant to use the clutch at all but shift as soon as you let off the gas and back on the gas as soon as its in gear again. as said before it should clunk but NOT grind.
