It does suck but considering your resources its pretty funny!! Hugh Laurie would make a pretty cool Covenant but the rape scene would probably have to be cut out of the movie if they wanted good ratings. My friend stopped reading the book when they got to that scene.
The downfall of movies! I never read the LoTR books-tried but died of boredom. And there could be a movie that didn't do all of those things-it'd just be really really hard. The problem is getting the movie style to fit the book's.
TC has to be portrayed as a very bad man, and according to Donaldson the rape scene represents the ultimate in violation. TC is portrayed as a villain without a backbone who nevertheless holds the key to saving the Land.
Yeah, and it makes characters like Hile Troy very understandable, because he has the means, and sometimes the want, but still refuses to use his White Gold.
However, In his defense... He doesn't know how to use it. He tried to use it to save Elena from her fate, and failed miserably.
Isn't he excused for not having a backbone when the times he DOES try, he fails so horribly ? TC's been defeated, by Life. He spent so long learning the Leper's defenses, he HAS to be that way.
@nate556 ....now knowing from the 2nd chronicles if TC was to save elena he had to fight a dead Kevin LW and by doing so he probably would have broken the Arch of time which would have been what lord foul wanted
Just look at what happens in the few short weeks he spends outside the land. He was dying in The Power That Preserves: and that was even with him fighting to keep his Leper's Defenses in place. Had he given those defenses up to embrace the land... I think he would have been much much worse when he returned.
TC´s Unbelief is the main premise behind the series. It´s true that he uses it to protect himself for when he wakes up from his dream - but he also uses it as an excuse for doing nothing. And then, even when he does try to make the white gold work, he fails miserably. But eventually he finds a way to redeem himself. (Also, I don't see TC trying to keep his defenses in place at the beginning of TPTP, he had let his leprosy get out of control because the Land was getting to him.)
The fate of Elena, and his failure to save her, was the main cause of TC's breakdown in the real world at the beginning of TPTP. He not only failed to save her, but he manipulated her into going to Melenkurion Skyweir in the first place as a way to avoid taking responsibility for himself. So he had every right to think that the catastrophe was ALL his fault.
I just had to do this for a school project, so i just put the actors that popped up in my head when i was making this. But yeah i agree, Caviezel would make a good Covenant.
Ha ha ha! FINALLY someone has started filming! Yeah, Jim Caviezel might be a good choice. I think Elric would be a more well-received anti-hero. After all, I don't think most people would let that rape scene go.
I say "Bravo" and an A for effort. It's high time SOMEBODY make movies of at least the first Covenant trilogy. Interesting choice of actor for Covenant: Sean Bean?? I think more along the lines of Jim Caviezel, but that's just me.
K, on Episode 9 now... I am loving this. This is just hilarious. Their air-headedness is just freakin' funny. I want to slap some of the experts they get on their though, LOL.
Poor guy....nudged by an extremely slow car.

It would be 100% impossible to cut the rape. It has such a strong effect on everything that happens throught both series.
They could probably dilute it though, or make Lena older than 'no older than 15'.
It would be impossible to make a movie that either didn't suck, bore people to death, or ruin the story with brainless action.
Look what they did to Lord of the Rings. These books are much more psychological and introverted than those.
