President Says Saddam Hussein Must Leave Iraq Within 48 Hours - March 17, 2003 (Public Record)
"The danger is clear: using chemical, biological or, one day, nuclear weapons, obtained with the help of Iraq, the terrorists could fulfill their stated ambitions and kill thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent people in our country, or any other."
Sounds like his reason for Iraq action was predicated in Saddam's 30 year history of aiding terrorists.
As the history of the last 17 years has demonstrated, the U.S. has an abiding interest in the Balkans. Thousands of our finest diplomats and soldiers have spent years trying to build a peaceful future there, many have died.
Though I'm left of you right-wing extremists, I found the Clinton pardons disgraceful. However, they were done as he left office and didn't involve possibly wrong-doing in his White House, so the outcry was muffled. Had they occurred during his term, there's no doubt people would have been screaming for his head. Finally, Clinton was investigated and clearly during the Bush administration by a Bush appointed prosecutor confirmed by the Republican-led Senate.
I am a moderate extremist to you I guess. Clintons last minute pardons are going to dug up thanks to Keith and Hillary foaming at the mouth. Clinton lied under oath but was let go, Hillary sat on Billing records and was let go.
Incidentally, though I thought the 1st Bush election questionable, I reconciled myself to the fact that he was indeed "my President". When 9/11 happened, I hoped that he would do a good job in dealing with it. It has only been over the 6.5 years of his incompetence, corruption, secrecy, lies, half-truths, misrepresentations, and appointment of loyal hacks to positions for which they were not qualified, that I have come to regard him with great loathing.
If leaking the name of Mrs. Plame was a crime, then why has the prosecutor not charged the man who actually leaked the name? (Richard Armitage) If the leaking of name is not a crime, then why would Scooter Libby intentionally lie? He would not. He was convicted of having a flawed memory and nothing more.
Counts I,II,IV & V of the Libby indictment (which the jury found to be true beyond a reasonable doubt) show that Scooter's testimony is a lot more than just "faulty" memory. Was Clinton guilty of an underlying crime in having consensual sex with Monica? That was not the point of the Republican-led impeachment effort - it was simply that he had lied under oath. The Libby conviction is valid under the law, until an appeals court says otherwise.
Fine! I won't even argue that, but the fact remains Scooter has not been pardoned. Bush let his conviction stand. However the "underlying crime" was confessed to by Armitage, and yet he has not been indicted. I don't care about Clinton and what he did or did not do. Facts are facts.
Broadcast Journalism at its Best! Ro, the 4th Estate, media responsibility, is not dead. I wish the video didn't cutoff at KO's Edward R. Murrow sign off quote, "Good Night and Good Luck!"
Bush commuted one of his own staffers! James Madison, at the Constitutional Convention, said to Impeach any President who pardoned or sheltered those who committed crimes advised by that President.
I am just replying to bajk22's comment. I never compared Bush and Clinton. He said find me a pardon where that person worked for the Clinton Administration and committed a crime in the commission of his job and I will agree that is equally offensive. And I just gave him a few and some that were even worse. True, I don't think Libby is guilty, maybe Cheney is, but I don't know all the facts, none of us do. Seems this is kind of a miniscule issue compared to the others in this world.
Solitary...you couldn't be more correct. google: 'olbermann racism'. You'll see what a bigoted monster he really is. When these limp-wristed dipshits call for impeachmment, they sound like 1st graders who parrot back the hate fed through sub-humans like olbermann and muslim terrorists.
Another fantastic talk by Keith Olberman, I hope to see the day that he receives a medal for bravery and integrity. We need more of men like Kieth Olberman. God Bless him for speaking up all the words that many many many Americans and foreigners alike think... He should run for PRESIDENCY!
This country needs a good douching, after 6.5 years of getting fucked in every orifice by Bush, Cheney, et al. The neo-cons are so willing to throw away billions of tax-dollars on unwarranted military action, but scream "Liberal Poison" if someone wants to spend far less to help the poor, elderly and disabled of the United States. Death and destruction, pain, suffering, bloodshed, poverty, illness - all are the calling cards of the neo-cons, who truly are doing the Devil's work on earth.
Only morons, true mental-deficients cannot distinguish between separate events. It does not matter that previous Presidents made corrupt decisions in pardoning, they are history and most are dead. What is of immediate importance is that such an act has been perpetrated in the present, and the president involved is subject to any punitive actions that may be called for under the very Constitution that he usurped.
Impeach the bastards you have, not the ones that escaped and died.
Yep,every media outlet was rabid...she became the new Anna Nicole Smith (except for the being dead part)
So-called news programs even interrupted coverage of world events and real news when someone heard she MIGHT come out of her house "any moment now" for that trip back to court.
My viewing support remained with people like Olbermann and Dobbs, but it seems more ppl preferred to see what Paris would be wearing.
i know who give three damn asses about paris i dont i was ripping my hair out. why aren't they covering the soldiers or something w/ importance is america this dumb. if so all is lost
America. A beautiful idea ruined by fear and paranoia - what a terrible tragedy that a nation founded on such noble ideas be aloud, by its people, to rot away.
Thanks God I don't live in a country like America.
elephantsyndrome, I had an epiphany. You are simply a puppet. A loud, ignorant, puppet who finds it impossible to question anyone who uses the name Jesus and says they support conservatives. How does it feel to have someone's hand up your ass? Clown.
Denial? How did my comment cause you to feel the need to write that comment? What the fuck does denial have to do with me thinking this story is over the top. I don't need your bull shit comment on my light hearted comment. Now stop posting so much on YouTube and go outside and do some good.
Don't worry about it. It's no big deal. Frankly, I am suprised YouTube/Google has that lame notice without a direct link to the comments location. They need to get on that.
Yes,they do. I honestly went back like 80+ pages looking for a comment I made to you,and couldn't find one. Anyway, not the first time it has happened, and very irritating.
Bush is a really, really bad jokes in the worst of taste and without any humor to it at all; he should go back to doing what he did best - which was to run an oil company into the ground. He failed in business, so he went into politics, where he failed even worse. And, unlike Olbermann, he can't string two words together without the greatest of difficulty.
When are people going to realize that we need really smart people at the helm?
A personal attack is like what Mann Coulter does, which is to say mean hateful things about someone that have nothing to do with the issue. Here we have actual facts about the issue. Nobody was called a faggot here or been wished to be assassinated. Just facts.
There were six years of unfettered misuse of the government. Yes, there ought to be alot of investigations! If some of you had an understanding of the judicial system you might be a little frightened by all that has happened.
I keep getting email notifications that people have responded to my comments, but I'm darned if I can every find the responses. I'm not ignoring people who respond. I've written YouTube to ask them to modernize their forums so that comments and reponses to them are placed in proper threads, with more than just two levels. Maybe if more people asked for this, it would get done. It certainly would facilitate the conversation.
We don't know that Bush did that either...your just speculating...However we do know that Clinton sold weapons technology to China for campaign finance...and that is true treason.
.. and we do know that Bush lied about wmds and a Saddam-Al Qaida connection to lead the US into a war and that now he has kept a convicted criminal from ever having to go to prison.
Once upon a time, an advisor to the king was found to be lying to a court and was sentenced to serve time in the dungeon. The advisor told the king that if he did not help him, that he would inform the court about crimes committed by the king and his viceroy. The king then issued a proclamation that the advisor be set free. Upon hearing the proclamation and suspecting the king's wrongdoing, the people of the kingdom rose up and demanded that the king stand before the court.
who fucking cares what clinton did is head up ur ass or what dont you see that our ppl r dying out there not to mention the innocent iraqes that did nothing to us did a baby blow up the towers nooo it was ur lame brain president who refused to do his JOB and read that damn fuck memo damn it focus on hte now as in the end the US wake up
i got one fact didnt america help put saddam hussein in office this was about a son tring to out do his dad and screwed us along for the ride this man is dictator a dumb one
We actually did make efforts to keep him and tyrants like him in power because dictatorships provide a certain level of stability in volatile regions. Hard to stomach, but true nonetheless.
John Ellis,a freelance political advisor contracted by Fox News to head their election night "decision desk" in 2000 doesnt head Fox News but he DID call the election in Florida prematurely. Other networks picked up on it,and some say turned the tide so Bush won the state.
dude what is wrong with u where did you get such info hey what about here in america there plenty of incest and deformity here look at your president he is prime example of incest
Man some of these comments are hilarious. The Republicans have been utterly discredited in the last 6 years by demonstrating their incompetence, corruption and downright criminality in governing this country. History will not look kindly on this Presidents reign.
Doesn't this guy look like a fucking stereotypical liberal 'man'? Jesus, I bet this northeastern bespectacled brie-eating panty-waisted queer has a limp handshake.
Bush commuted one of his own staffers! James Madison, at the Constitutional Convention, said to Impeach any President who pardoned or sheltered those who committed crimes advised by that President.
Bush & Cheney are criminals, but Democrats aren't much better. Anyone who wants real change needs to support a revolutionary-type politician like Ron Paul.
a racist sports anchor. CBS kicked him out of L.A. and then ESPN couln't show him the door fast enough. None of the black athletes would give him an interview because of his bigotry.
According to the dictionary: Liberal means...pansy-assed, limp-wristed, no-backbone, whiny, un-educated losers. That fits Olbermann perfectly. No wonder he's their hero.
where was all this outrage when clinton PARDONED oh i don't Henry Cisneros (housing Secretary)and John Duetch (cia director) these two were cabnet members and they were PARDONED not comuted sentences PARDONS oh but I forgot Clinton does no wrong his lies under oath thats ok I forgot
Whoever claimed Clinton did no wrong? A whole lot of Dems were pissed off at him back then, even though a lot of Presidents issued a lot more pardons than HE did.
Clinton hasn't been president for a while now, though, for anyone who missed the last 2 elections,so dragging him up every time Bush gets criticized is just a not overly successful attempt to distract people from what is happening now.
I thought the pardons were inexcusable, but not criminal, as they didn't involve past or future White House operations. I think Pres. Clinton will come to regret issuing them, because they will cost Hilary the presidency, so justice may still be served, though indirectly.
All Presidents do it. I have never been fond of the policy, but it is what it is. I find it supremely ironic that Bush lovers keep pulling out Marc Rich's in particular, and Libby was his lawyer and the guy who has always maintained Rich was innocent.
As for Clinton,he probably already does have regrets,if only because of Hillary's political ambitions.
Olbermann has imitated nazis (trivializing the holocaust) and also demeaned African-Americans constantly on espn and msnbc. Anyone who can support such a pig is just a sorry excuse for a human.
saddam sent footage of his stockpiles of anthrax and sarin gas being destroyed to the american government and allowed UN inspectors throughout anywhere in iraq to show he did no longer have these substances but america chose to reject this and still decided to invade iraq saying he must be hiding the WMD's and that he supports terrorism and al qaeda although this contradicted all evidence that the bush adminstration had already had in their possession
to be fair iraq did have such things as anthrax and sarin gas but this was because america had supplied them with this heinous substances and supplied them with plans on how to reporduce the substances... america was the ones who supported saddam to his rise as dictator... and when america said iraq had weapons of mass destruction prior to the war,
i can not see why what america has done in iraq is not considered as terrorism or genocide.... the american government has fabrocated evidence stating that iraq has weapons of mass destruction which at that point was false and then they invaded iraq and killed a minimum 66,807 and maximum 73,120 civilians....
you may be wondering why so many candidates have been starting their race for the 2008 presidency so early, with over a year still to go. well, it recentlly begam obvious to me, that we, as a nation are more ready then ever (in the history of america) for a new president. And the candidates right now, all of them, are riding on the coattails of the "hey, at least i'm not Bush!" campaign.
i just dont understand, if we didnt do anything after 9/11 wouldnt we be paying for it right now anyway with more terrorist attacks/threats againts us? i get iraq wasnt the ideal place to go but if we would have gone into Afghanistan which is where we should have gone, would we really be in better shape now? i just can't see it, it would be the same story only in Afghanistan and if we didnt do anything we would have another 9/11, so we were in a pickle and had to do something
We did go somewhere - to Afghanistan, where the terrorists actually WERE; The Afghan war had and still has the full support of most Americans, and, I think, much of the free world - NATO troops are still there. It's Bush/Cheney's war in Iraq that's the problem. If Bush had concentrated on Afghanistan and stayed out of Iraq, he'd be a hero of the people instead of Satan's goat.
but people are saying he has put all the terrorist there that werent before, that were in afghanistan, but how would the situation have changed? why wouldnt we still be at war now if we had focused more on afghanistan than iraq?
There was no valid reason to go into Iraq; the war in Iraq has drained significant resources from the war in Afghanistan. The war in Iraq has destabilized the Middle East - the war in Afghanistan would not have done that. Saddam, for all his evils, was an adamant opponent to the terrorists now thriving his Iraq AND to the regime in Iran. Iran has been empowered by the war in Iraq. It's a question of going after the terrorists, not furthering your own private agenda, as Bush has done.
Destabilizing the Middle East? You mean we interrupted the Muslims slaughtering Christians, Jews and each other? Wow, that's too bad. Saddam PAID the families of suicide bombers in Palestine. I think it was 10k each. You are wrong about everything you said.
there was a HIGH chance when we were in Afghanistan Saddam would act because of our location and he could easily attack, its happened before, its called the Persian gulf war, he signed the treaty in 94, giving access to the UN and have peace with Kuwait, he ignored it in 2001 when UN got there, he refused for weeks to allow them to inspect, it worked out cuz we still havent found any weapons to this day but its a little weird that he would be so defensive when he had nothing to hide right?
This response shows why neo-conservatism is a failed political philosophy: Preemptive war is a bad idea, but it's one of the cornerstones of neo-conservatism.
Thank God the neo-cons were not in power during the Cold War; Russia MIGHT have attacked us at any time, so it would have been OK to launch a prememptive strike against that country. What crap.
thats the best you can do? no REAL comeback....you are disgrace to liberals...once your down change the subject and make fun of the opposition, get some REAL facts and come back when you fuckin have an epiphany
Could have, should have, would have - that's not why we went to war in Iraq. You probably don't recall, but Bush said he had solid intel that there were WMD there and a Saddam-Al Qaeda link - both lies. If he'd said, "We need to take Saddam out because he might attack us", Congress would NEVER had passed the use of force resolution. So, stop re-writing history.
your acting as if Saddam went peacefully, saddam's fingerprints were all over the 93 trade center bombings, and seeing as saddam had bank accounts in the West Bank that tie funding terrorism i think its pretty solid intel
Rewriting history again, I see. Even Colin Powell now regards Bush's bogus Intel as a permanent stain on his reputation. Contrary to the right-wing's boot-strapping, post-hoc re-justification of the Iraq debacle, taking out Saddam was not the most effective way of dealing with global terrorism, and, as predicted, it was one of the worst avenues for doing so. Your loyalty to your pal Bush is undermining your judgment.

Why lie? Possibly to protect the Vice-President.

Was Clinton guilty of an underlying crime in having consensual sex with Monica? That was not the point of the Republican-led impeachment effort - it was simply that he had lied under oath. The Libby conviction is valid under the law, until an appeals court says otherwise.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
Fine! I won't even argue that, but the fact remains Scooter has not been pardoned. Bush let his conviction stand. However the "underlying crime" was confessed to by Armitage, and yet he has not been indicted. I don't care about Clinton and what he did or did not do. Facts are facts.

JStephs1950 4 years ago
Only morons, true mental-deficients cannot distinguish between separate events. It does not matter that previous Presidents made corrupt decisions in pardoning, they are history and most are dead. What is of immediate importance is that such an act has been perpetrated in the present, and the president involved is subject to any punitive actions that may be called for under the very Constitution that he usurped.
Impeach the bastards you have, not the ones that escaped and died.

Colforbin2001 4 years ago
Whoever claimed Clinton did no wrong? A whole lot of Dems were pissed off at him back then, even though a lot of Presidents issued a lot more pardons than HE did.
Clinton hasn't been president for a while now, though, for anyone who missed the last 2 elections,so dragging him up every time Bush gets criticized is just a not overly successful attempt to distract people from what is happening now.
ginerlynn 4 years ago
I thought the pardons were inexcusable, but not criminal, as they didn't involve past or future White House operations. I think Pres. Clinton will come to regret issuing them, because they will cost Hilary the presidency, so justice may still be served, though indirectly.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
All Presidents do it. I have never been fond of the policy, but it is what it is. I find it supremely ironic that Bush lovers keep pulling out Marc Rich's in particular, and Libby was his lawyer and the guy who has always maintained Rich was innocent.
As for Clinton,he probably already does have regrets,if only because of Hillary's political ambitions.

saddam sent footage of his stockpiles of anthrax and sarin gas being destroyed to the american government and allowed UN inspectors throughout anywhere in iraq to show he did no longer have these substances but america chose to reject this and still decided to invade iraq saying he must be hiding the WMD's and that he supports terrorism and al qaeda although this contradicted all evidence that the bush adminstration had already had in their possession
criggles01 4 years ago
to be fair iraq did have such things as anthrax and sarin gas but this was because america had supplied them with this heinous substances and supplied them with plans on how to reporduce the substances... america was the ones who supported saddam to his rise as dictator... and when america said iraq had weapons of mass destruction prior to the war,
criggles01 4 years ago
i can not see why what america has done in iraq is not considered as terrorism or genocide.... the american government has fabrocated evidence stating that iraq has weapons of mass destruction which at that point was false and then they invaded iraq and killed a minimum 66,807 and maximum 73,120 civilians....

i just dont understand, if we didnt do anything after 9/11 wouldnt we be paying for it right now anyway with more terrorist attacks/threats againts us? i get iraq wasnt the ideal place to go but if we would have gone into Afghanistan which is where we should have gone, would we really be in better shape now? i just can't see it, it would be the same story only in Afghanistan and if we didnt do anything we would have another 9/11, so we were in a pickle and had to do something
theelephantsyndrome 4 years ago
We did go somewhere - to Afghanistan, where the terrorists actually WERE; The Afghan war had and still has the full support of most Americans, and, I think, much of the free world - NATO troops are still there. It's Bush/Cheney's war in Iraq that's the problem. If Bush had concentrated on Afghanistan and stayed out of Iraq, he'd be a hero of the people instead of Satan's goat.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
but people are saying he has put all the terrorist there that werent before, that were in afghanistan, but how would the situation have changed? why wouldnt we still be at war now if we had focused more on afghanistan than iraq?
theelephantsyndrome 4 years ago
There was no valid reason to go into Iraq; the war in Iraq has drained significant resources from the war in Afghanistan. The war in Iraq has destabilized the Middle East - the war in Afghanistan would not have done that. Saddam, for all his evils, was an adamant opponent to the terrorists now thriving his Iraq AND to the regime in Iran. Iran has been empowered by the war in Iraq. It's a question of going after the terrorists, not furthering your own private agenda, as Bush has done.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
Destabilizing the Middle East? You mean we interrupted the Muslims slaughtering Christians, Jews and each other? Wow, that's too bad. Saddam PAID the families of suicide bombers in Palestine. I think it was 10k each. You are wrong about everything you said.
sirjames45 4 years ago
there was a HIGH chance when we were in Afghanistan Saddam would act because of our location and he could easily attack, its happened before, its called the Persian gulf war, he signed the treaty in 94, giving access to the UN and have peace with Kuwait, he ignored it in 2001 when UN got there, he refused for weeks to allow them to inspect, it worked out cuz we still havent found any weapons to this day but its a little weird that he would be so defensive when he had nothing to hide right?
theelephantsyndrome 4 years ago
This response shows why neo-conservatism is a failed political philosophy: Preemptive war is a bad idea, but it's one of the cornerstones of neo-conservatism.
Thank God the neo-cons were not in power during the Cold War; Russia MIGHT have attacked us at any time, so it would have been OK to launch a prememptive strike against that country. What crap.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
thats the best you can do? no REAL comeback....you are disgrace to liberals...once your down change the subject and make fun of the opposition, get some REAL facts and come back when you fuckin have an epiphany
theelephantsyndrome 4 years ago
Could have, should have, would have - that's not why we went to war in Iraq. You probably don't recall, but Bush said he had solid intel that there were WMD there and a Saddam-Al Qaeda link - both lies. If he'd said, "We need to take Saddam out because he might attack us", Congress would NEVER had passed the use of force resolution. So, stop re-writing history.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
your acting as if Saddam went peacefully, saddam's fingerprints were all over the 93 trade center bombings, and seeing as saddam had bank accounts in the West Bank that tie funding terrorism i think its pretty solid intel
theelephantsyndrome 4 years ago
Rewriting history again, I see. Even Colin Powell now regards Bush's bogus Intel as a permanent stain on his reputation. Contrary to the right-wing's boot-strapping, post-hoc re-justification of the Iraq debacle, taking out Saddam was not the most effective way of dealing with global terrorism, and, as predicted, it was one of the worst avenues for doing so. Your loyalty to your pal Bush is undermining your judgment.
JStephs1950 4 years ago
why keep saying "re-writing history" when my responses are answers and you change direction and no counter
i never said it was the most effective
how can you say it was the worst? its BAD but we didnt choose another route so you can REWRITE history i dont think you have a clue
it was a mistake to go to iraq in the sense that we shouldve gone to elsewhere
you underestimate the influence saddam had on terrorism
