Skip, I hope the Library of Congress is getting all this. You not only shoot some awesome videos, you do a great service to the community. They should do a movie about the UP844 and make you the director. Thanks for sharing all your work with us. :)
great video I was on that train we had a great time at the Rodeo and me finally getting to see this big Northern in action was wonderfull I just wish they did a runby with it I wasnt able to get a ticket for the one way run back to Cheyenne the next morning though ..I just saw 844 yesterday down here in my hometown Aubrey Texas I caught her on the way south to Ft Worth a great site seeing her down here in Texas
great pacing video ! like it as the towns blow by...the distance shots from the highway as the train goes through the towns at a distance provides a great perspective. 5***
When I wrote the song "Train To Denver" in 2006 I wasn't sure if there exist such a railroad. I've performed that song for a view times on stage and it made people dancing and singing forever. I don't know why. But nice to know something more about the train to Denver ;)
Skip W, I remember passing you up several times in that SUV, or I believe that was you! lol! We had a heck of a chase going on didn't we, sir? Everyone on that stretch of road was crazy!!!!!!! Very good turn out of video feed, sir. Great action and God Bless.
@SkipW thats cool that you saw the Cal Z reroute I came in the day prior on the southbound to denver everyone was bitching on the Amtrak about missing the mountains me personally I loved finally getting to ride across Sherman hill on an Amtrak train than getting to see and ride 844 for the first time the next morning man I cant complain it was great
I think you should make available a website to download your fantastic pacing videos of your five or six favorite big locomotives (UP844; SP4449; MWR261 etc.) or on DVD? I would *LOVE* to own these forever!! Great job as always!
844 is bigger, I don't know the tractive effort, but I'll take your word for it. As for the speed, 4449 tops out at about 80MPH, I don't doubt that 844 could hit 120 under the right cercumstances, they've run the 800s at over 100 before, and according to the enginier he thought the locomotive could've gone faster.

How does 844 compare to the 4449??
DanielVolker 2 years ago
I'm greatful for all the videos of trains that Skip shares. There different locomotives in design both great and well traveled.

A bit bigger, and about 40 MPH faster.
