ChristopherFast got it right "plenty Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb influence". Lots of "Where's the Playground, Suzie" and "MacArthur's Park" in this song...
You have to hear the album this comes from called Age Of Mouse. A sprawling flawed but beautiful lush psychedelic nutzoid country pop record with plenty Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb influence but still totally unique. Unfortunately I believe all the CD reissues are the edited version, so you you'll have to hunt out the Australian vinyl for the whole double album mind fuck
I thought I was the only one in the world who knew this song existed! Like it, in a strange way, but glad that the shorter edited version was posted. The original album length version went FOREVER and was a tad self indulgent. But interesting and (if you're in the right mood) likeable.
The Yard Went On Forever-meets-Macarthur Park. Not quite sure why I've always enjoyed this track . . . but there you go! An interesting Australian classic . . .
