If you actually care about Dolphins DONT go to the Mirage (or MGM) and DONT financially support this place in any way. Chances are the dolphins you are watching in this video are dead. Do google search for Dolphin Death Pool and Mirage and you can read all about the animal cruelty the casino is profiting from. There are PLENTY of other great places to stay and shows to see in Vegas.
I've got a magnificent idea. Let's fill up a concrete tank with water, and drop humans in it. No chance for them to come outside of the tank. Only swim around in cirlces 24/7. And let's not forget, i wanna be a trainer for a day too. Watch the humans jump up to a ball, or through a hoop. Wouldn't this be fun? Oh yeah. This will never happen, cause that would be illegal. And inhumane. Well go figure, they are doing exactly the same as what this hotel is offering. Shame on the Mirage !!!
These dolphins don't belong in a big concrete tank. They belong in the open waters. Keeping them captive is cruel. These mammals need to swim free. Not move around in circles. I hope they will be brought back into the open sea. People who are feeling entertained by watching this cruelty, they are just as guilty as the people who hunt them down, sell them or slaughter them for their meat. There should be laws that forbid any of this entertainment.(cont)
I don't mean to be a wet blanket, as most people love dolphin, but I think people should be aware that dolphins are still captured from the wild, shipped to holding pens, trained then sold to marine parks. Many dolphins die being caught, and during transit. They are taken from a place where they are free to do as they like and to swim for for miles, to a concrete pool to perform for us the rest of their lives. Ok some of the better parks are not involved in this cruel practise but it goes on.
Not here they aren't. The U.S. stopped capturing dolphins in 1989. Except for a few who stranded and were deemed non-releasable due to injury or impairment, all the dolphins to enter captivity in the U.S. since then were born there. Don't know if that eases your conscience any, but you should know.
@ianam1983 Not all of them were born here. In fact some were imported. Which means that while the U.S. was not involved in the captures, they still supported them. However, it is still good to know that such progress has been made that capture is illegal.=)
@FighterForPaula1 There were some false killer whales from Japan in late 1980s -- all are dead now -- and a few belugas and white-sided dolphins that were captured up to 1992, but now no cetacean can be live-captured in U.S. waters, and we can't even import them from other countries if they were wild-caught after a certain date. Yes, there has definitely been progress.
I LOVE GOING HERE I WANNA GO AGAIN AND TAKE MY KIDS

Scientific studies have shown that dolphins that live in captivity from the age of 1, will live up to 25 years longer then those living in the wild.
