Im really hoping to go to check this place out on sun. Im real excited. I don't think I will find any better place to practice my spirituality. I can't even practice it fully b/c the person I live with is christian. They have learned to accept it but, practicing your spirituality with someone makes it that much more rewarding. I want to go with all my heart.

This seems like an amazing church. I used to be a christian, but now I consider myself "open" agnostic. My Fiancé is a very devout christian, and we both miss the fellowship of going to church, but I can't justify walking into a christian church knowing that I don't believe a damn word they say. I'm really looking forward to checking UU out.
@uncrazy99 number one Lutheranism is not a Religion it's a denomination of Christianity so your saying you don't like alot of things in Christianity right?
LOVE. According to christian tradition, the apostle John when he was aged, was carried around in a cot and the only word he would utter to poeple who asked him deep theological questions, was LOVE (find out the greek words for love and you will understand).
The UU congregation has changed my life...i recently moved to Hawaii and didnt have many friends. As soon as i walked through the doors of the UU church, i was embraced by everyone. It was a wonderful experience.
I've been going to a UU church lately, and I'm experiencing the same thing. Acceptance and Welcoming is just such a huge part of their religiosity. I love it.
The primary teachings of Jesus and his Apostles, by example, parable and analogy was how to behave, not what to believe. The exception is they taught about the nature of a loving God, in contrast to the teachings of the Jewish Pharisees of the day who were teachig of a vengeful God who punished those who did not follow the rules closely enough. I think Unitarian Universalism captures the intent of Jesus' teachings in some ways better than the teachings of traditional Christian churches.
I've bewen a UU for a year now and it has been a life changing expirienece (GO UU!!!!) Befroe, I didn't know what to believe, and i guess i concidered myself athiest. Now I'm at a congregation where I have friends that I can really relate to.
My viewpoint may not be very popular here & please understand I don't mean to be rude. But all of the Apostles of the true Christ made a huge point of telling people specifically "what to believe." Just something to consider.
good point. just because we don't understand what is true doesn't mean that we should ignore it, the Apostles tried to be as specific as they could so that we can know what is right and wrong
and yet, if you follow the bible literally from old testemet to new, gays and fornicators burn, unbaptised children are condemened, shellfish is an abomination, slavery us acceptable, and war is made in God's name. in the bible he killed the entire world's population. Where is the prince of peace there? this is what drove me away from christianity.
Yes. In all religious practice there is a "margin of error".All modes of "spirituality' are corrupted by human contact; making anthropomorphism a major concern because it will always impose its limitations (egotisms and ethnocentricities) upon the Illimitable-Divine...the All in All (Transcendent)
@WestmoRomantic i know what you mean. I could never be sane if I put my faith in a book like that. Some people's interpretation of god is very evil and manipulating. This is why most of us left christianity. Its time for us to find our own truths and are own spirituality.
Fruit, your statement is historically correct. Paul, Peter, etc. were all very concerned with what people believed, but more than that, I think they were concerned with what they did, and how they acted. Were they to act like pagans, and eat their meat, or were they to act like Jews, as Christ did. I don't think it's much of a perversion of the Christian message to say that who you are, and what you do is more important than what you actually believe.
Even as an Atheist I find spirituality to be an important and life-changing thing that can benefit everybody, no matter what they think about our incredible universe(we ALL know our existence is incredible!). I don't think my non-belief in God is contradiction at ALL-just because I have non-beliefs doesn't mean I don't have beliefs. I plan on attending a UU church, and exploring these beliefs more fully. Humanity really needs to learn that all beliefs should have a place in our hearts.
I consider myself a Pagan as my beliefs tend to lean that way, but I grew up Catholic. I stopped attending that Church two years ago, and I recently went back because I missed the people I once knew, and I was met with nothing but glares and dirty looks. My sensei and friend is a UU and she told me some things about it, and I am researching it..UU looks like such an amazing, warm and embracive religion...I will definately check it out.
I have been struggling with my catholic faith lately.... and UU sounds PERFECT....ANNDD i found out there is a UU church here.. even in my small town... I am for sure going to check it out on Sunday
I had never heard of UU until March of last year...now I am a member of a Unitarian Universalist Church. The very first time I went I knew... "this is where I belong"
As a rather conservative evangelical Christian i have a far different theological set of beliefs than the UU's, however i have always enjoyed the perspective the UU's bring to matters of faith. My roots are in the Unitarian church and I respect ya'll. Peace
UU's tend to see the Christian Bible as one of many books from many different traditions. The same can be said about "god." There are many different kinds of gods. The Bible contains both good and bad teachings. As a person who attends a UU Church, I think it is important to exemplify the good while not overlooking the bad.
Its about time these talented, progressive people started using the power of television. Good spot. Well conceived, executed, distributed and promoted.
I have been to several Unitarian Churches. At each one of them I felt welcome by the congregation and enjoyed each of their services. I like that they are non dogmatic and believe in deeds instead of creeds.
The UU community is an amazingly supportive, humanitarian, accepting environment for each individual to explore their own spirituality and support others on their own spiritual path. I am so glad to see our faith being broadcast to the masses using modern marketing! GO UU!!!!!
I am a BORN Unitarian, and it is the greatest gift my mother ever gave me. I love being a UU and having grown up in that tradition. I am very thankful for UUism, and I think the whole world would benefit if all people tried to live by our UU principles.
This is long overdue!!! It's about time we decided to be a little more proactive about spreading the word about who we are, and for that matter, THAT we are! This is great stuff.
I wish someone had invited me to come check out UUism when I was in high school or college. It's amazing to have found a church, a faith, that lets me question everything, including the very existence of God, in a framework of a loving community that applauds my skepticism and walks the path of questioning, seeking, and working for social justice, right along with me.
Being a UU allows me to help the world, in some small way, become a better place for us all. Join us to give it a try. You too may find the home you have been seeking.
Is Universal Sufi very popular in Unitarian Churchs?
