Know what you're watching, if you don't like it then don't watch it so they don't make money from you, and i don't have to explain how that happens right? Just enjoy the show.
I always thought the whole thing about Olympic gold medals was bullshit. A so called olympic gold medal is made of 92.5% Silver and the rest gold. They're is approximately 6 grams of gold in an olympic gold medal.Last time an olympic gold medal was made of solid gold was in 1912. I'm not saying it should be solid gold but at least 51% of it should be gold. 6 grams of gold is about $240 worth of gold.
The fact that the winners pawned those bronze medals would tell you they were not particularly proud of finishing third. You want someone to pay $20,000 for a bronze medal won by a guy who does not value the achievement. If it was a gold medal then i could see the value of of paying $20,000. It would be rare to get one as anybody whoever won one would generally hold it as a prize possesion to always remember their achievement. A bronze medal for $20,000 ??? C'mon....give me a fucking break.
I hate it when the expert comes in saying, "It's worth 3,000$"
Then the guy selling it is like, "You heard the man, 3,000$"
Then Rick weezes for 3 seconds and says "Look at it my way, I could probably make 2,500$ on a good day, the most I can go is 700$ and I don't even know why I'm doing this, it's a shot in the dark"
@zenar154 The reason an expert will call an item at that price is as if it was sold at a high estimate in an auction. Pawn shops do not run auctions, nor are they guaranteed to get the item at that price when they sell it. Therefore, there is no point buying an item for what it's worth, they (the pawn shop) would not make any money. To be confused at rick's offers is actually pretty naive, and the customers who try to get away with asking for its total value are just as naive.
@guitarbridgecleaner People on the street are not the only customers they get...they have museums and art galleries and private collectors all over the world for their business.
@tmlms1313 yea.... id take the honor any day of the week. but then again i live in a contry with a gov that suports the unemployed, students ect. instead of spending tax on military ect.
@mojen93 hmm, why would an AMERICAN, walk into an AMERICAN pawn shop, buy an AMERICAN bronze medal, won by an AMERICAN during the last time the olympic games were held on AMERICAN soil and spend 20,000 AMERICAN dollars on it....it just boggles the mind
@mojen93 Probably worth more to him, being an American Pawn Shop. Would you walk into a pawn shop in your country and pay the same for 2 medals, one being won by your countryman and one not? Makes sense to me, and I'm not American.
@ruffestneckaround Yeah that is what he means but he doesnt explain that like thousands of other of examples of that kinda comment that makes americans believe they are number 1. I do beleive its impossible to grow up in america without hearing the media cry out number 1 were number 1. its quite amusing.
@NativeShaman Joe Greene (born February 17, 1967, Dayton, Ohio) was an American athlete (track and field) who competed for the United States in the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona, Spain in the Long Jump where he won the bronze medal. He repeated this performance four years later winning a second bronze in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. Joe Greene was injured before the 2000 Olympic Games and lost his sponsors, leaving him "with many bills to pay."
back in like 07 a teacher was talkin about metals and i was the only kid in my class that knew bronze was tin+copper. he also said 1 kid earlier knew it. it was my friend, which we both have played runescape forever
@CamiloSanchez1979 somebody from america would rather buy a medal won by an american than somebody from another country. It's not like medals from outside the country are more rare or something.
Well, u can sell ur medall but u already won the olympics so what's the big shit about it. I mean muhammad ali threw his olympic gold medal to a river for crying at loud. but the important thing is that he won and nothing changes that
Geez first a super bowl ring and now this. WTF is WRONG with these people? You bust your ass to win the Olympics only to pawn your medal. You can bet he paid half for each medal.
@cmskid20 They mention the price in one of these vids. Sorry I forget which one. I actually looked around a bit for you, but couldn't find it. It was quite pricey from what I remember. I think it was at least several tens of thousands.
Ridiculous prices for some random bronze medals. If they were gold, or won by someone who was now a famous professional athlete, maybe they'd be worth a look.
@newguy33X its worth that much for bronze medals because there is only one bronze metal, one silver, and one gold, not 20 bronze, not 20 silver, and not 20 gold, rarity ups the prices, (not chewing u out)

@Pow1017 Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on what we think they're really worth. My final point: It's someone else's medal, someone else's accomplishment. It didn't make sense to me in the first place why someone would spend a lot of money on something like that...and my other points...
they should also once in a while show the items being sold.. then have a recap of how the item got to the pawn shop in the first place. Great show, my fav in history channel.
I am so impressed by how smart these people are! Image how large your general knowledge span has to be in order be a successful pawn shop owner. Plus the amount of stress on the gambles you have to make day in an day out! really I am amazed they aren't insane!
You dont know what shit is gonna re-sale for plus there is a ton of red tape they have to work with and limited real estate space then you got to deal with police the list goes on and on Fucking everyone that comes in only gives you a small advantage there is still a million headaches to deal with.
The reason they are sold is because althletes dont get paid alot of money. Alot of them have to find the funds on thier own. People like Usain Bolt and Phelps will be fine due to ad money but If you win the gold in a non major event ( I.e Not the 100m) you don't get the ad money.
@foshooooooo So many athletes go broke when their playing days are done.Most have no real college or even a decent high school education so,they sell their medals to pay the bills.Bronze medal winners don't get endorsement deals,only gold medals are good for advertisers.
yeah, but id imagine an olympic medal would be one of the last things i would sell, i would have to be quite desperate. but i guess some athletes probably end up in that situation =/
Wow everybody should view my video. It's about june 20,2010 show. Pawn Stars is fake. It will change the way you view the show. If you ever view it again. Must see!

The reason they are sold is because althletes dont get paid alot of money. Alot of them have to find the funds on thier own. People like Usain Bolt and Phelps will be fine due to ad money but If you win the gold in a non major event ( I.e Not the 100m) you don't get the ad money.

@MghtyMrphnPwrRngr
still, why would you sell an olympic medal that you won?
foshooooooo 1 year ago
@foshooooooo So many athletes go broke when their playing days are done.Most have no real college or even a decent high school education so,they sell their medals to pay the bills.Bronze medal winners don't get endorsement deals,only gold medals are good for advertisers.

@flyboy13131313
yeah, but id imagine an olympic medal would be one of the last things i would sell, i would have to be quite desperate. but i guess some athletes probably end up in that situation =/
