What was that? People weren't in touch with their feeling back in this day compared to now. Yeah right! Actually people were more in touch with their feelings, cared more, and communicative. The world has gone to hell.
I'm 57 now and I still remember clearly the day that I saw "The Donna Reed Show" with this episode. I've never heard a song sung about a Dad that pay's the tribute to fathers around the country and around the world, that can best Paul Petersen's version. Thank you, sir, and I hope that you're doing well these days. A fan, ... forever. Frank Cheslea.
I believe it was Oct. I still have the 45 even though he's been dead for 24 yrs. I still think of him a lot. A couple of years ago, my step son who's 35 now. I got him when he was 9, said if it wasn't for you I'd be dead by now if it wasn't for you. so my legacy is set.
I love this song so much. :) My mom has the 45, too. These beautiful lyrics convey how every dad should be. My own father was abusive. God Bless Paul Petersen for recording this back in the 60's. oxox
Through the years I thought of this song which I had not heard since the 60's and was surprised when I requested it on our local oldies station that they even knew of it. I do love this song and Paul Petersen did it very well.
Without out a doubt, one of the most dreadful songs in history. Talk about sappy...

This was also recorded by Davy Jones, in his pre-Monkee days. But who did it first?

I always had this artist as Johnny Crawford. Let this be a lesson to me not to "define from context."

@soadfan33 There was an episode of the Donna Reed Show where Paul Petersen who played Jeff the teenage son performed this in late 1962.
