Nina Simone was an amazing stylist. When she sung a song it was hers and the song became something new and haunting. Everytime I hear this song, even when it takes me to a sad place, I revel in it. It gives you permission to feel and justifies it. And then when the song is over...you let it go and feel better. She does that. That is art. That is why she stands alone.

My father was Terry Allen. He was and still is the largest seller solo vocalist from the Big Band Era who still holds the title of the most selling recordings of this song. Recently he has passed away. I love this song and happend to come across Ms. Simone's version and I now understand the true meanig of this beautiful song. She only made it better.
