Yes, it is a slow "tempo", that is the tempo of the feeling, you must be patient. It drives you to "his" feeling, his moode, and then..., we can understand each other.
I have no words that will truly express how I feel about David Gilmours tallent as a musician and for Pink Floyd as one of the greatest Bands of our time...just feel the music....LOVE !!!!!
Love the Floyd and this song, but whoever recorded the delicate sound of thunder videos did a poor job. The editing is horrendous. The video and music are too often out of sync. The video will show Gilmour playing but the video playing doesn't match the audio of the actual guitar solos.

Marc Brickman is the best Lighting Designer of the World. And Sorrow Pink Floyd's best song! (I thing the album "A momentary lapse of reason" is the best PF Album ;) )
@mubitsche I guess I like all of their albums pretty much the same. At one point I liked Animals the best, then I liked AMLOR. I suppose their music mirrors whatever might be happening in the universe at the time and can influence what we like or don't like at the time :)
DSOTM, however, is prolly their most timeless endeavor. This is reflected in the charts. I like DSOTM but I guess AMLOR is my favorite today. That and anything live (like PULSE) :) Have seen them 3 times!

@bovb902 Pink Floyd'S best, hardest and darkest phase. I SO wish for a DVD release of the best lightshow and Music in the World: The Delicate sound of Thunder Video/ A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour on DVD,,,,
Actually, emulating Gilmour's legendary tone is pretty simple, really. You need a Strat, a good tube amp, a good distortion pedal like a Big Muff or a Boss Metal Zone, and a delay pedal. If you're trying to get the tone he has on the Delicate Sound Of Thunder or Pulse videos, it'll help if your Strat has EMG pickups with the Strat Presence Control and Expander controls.
But, you'd STILL need Dave's imagination and sense of melody to come up with anything as good as what Dave does with it.
@Kohntarkosz I got pretty close with my customized standard Strat (I replaced its pickups with a SA set and controls with the SPC and Expander) and a Line 6 Flextone hooked up with a Marshall cab. Tone wise, that is. As for the sheer genius...you can guess that part... ;)
A lot of the stuff Gilmour plays isn't THAT difficult from a technical point of view.. I mean, it's not very, very complicated or fast or anything. But the FEEL and the tone control, how he can just hold the entire audience in his hand, from tone to tone.. The tone (A) at 1.04 that he just keeps holding until the dive bomb, for instance.. Now, THAT'S what makes him my favorite guitar player. That's what I call expressing yourself through your instrument. This is one of my favorite PF songs.
@starionpatrol Completely agree on that, music isn't about bragging how fast can you play riffs or how hard they are to play. It's about the sound, feeling and all, which pink floyd has.
@starionpatrol yeah if you only speak about the intro... if you consider then ending solo you could attribute to gilmour that he's a virtuosis... also. :-)
@stratholme Oh, I'm talking about the entire song.. I can't hide my love for the intro in particular, though :p I'm really talking about his general style, how it's based on feel and how wonderfully well he executes it. Perfect melodies, notes held for just the right ammount of time.. it's all subjective, of course, but it clearly reaches more people than me :p This ending solo is cut short compared to the Album version.. I still prefer this one, though! I guess I got used to it :p
I saw an old video of David Gilmour, he was very young, about 17, Black & white tv, and yet he was playing guitar. This guy has been playing for more then 50 years, awesome.
@felitzzz yes- it's sooo beautiful- so focus on that and don't waste energy on negativity. let people that don't like these works go back to whatever rubbish they like - don't let them bring u down. certainly they are IDIOTS- i would like to just ask 'why?'. but whatever. they're probably in charge of brushing that bieber dork's hair. or whatever the hell his name is. lol
With all due respect, this sounds like Floyd. I've listened to all of Water's stuff and most of it is good, but none of it sounds like Floyd. I think everyone needs to stop.
Roger's direction was a bit over the top for me. Does every song need to be negative?
Clearly, if you had to pick a person (which I don't) it would be Gilmour. His guitar is definitive and his voice has been there a long time.
@wvankley Roger Waters never was about Pink Floyd. He tried to create the band in his own image which is why he left. All he did was rewrite David's lyrics for Comfortably Numb (as told by David in an interview) and the lyrics for Young Lust (again admitted by David in an interview)
as much as i like gilmour, he's fantastic, amazing and no other words can discribe him, and so is roger, but if roger isn't in there, i don't consider it to be "pink floyd". they are my favorite band of all time. i just can't call david "pink floyd".
@jaywalking17 My best experience on shrooms with this song was the night i ate 3 chocolates(60%shroom). The chocolates are the size of big ice cubes from the old school trays. While he was singing, i felt light as air. I was laying on my bed with a feather top, fan blowing on me, and it seemed like every word took me further into my trip. Im a closed eyed tripper, so while the trip took hold, my mind was able to wander to "distant lands". It was the perfect trip, i cant even explain it...
I've seen many live performances of my favourite songs by PF, like Sorrow, Echoes, Comfortably numb. And I wonder, how it's possible to play it even better than on the album... When I first heared this song i needed some time to absorb the emotions what this song causes in me, and then I saw few live versions. Each one was better and better. Yes, they are the best.
@ma16360, Agree completely..! I can't find enough adjectives to describe this masterpiece. It doesn't vibrate your ear-drums; it vibrates your soul to its core and put you in a state of solemn, peaceful tranquility.
This song is just so gripping from beginning to end...when all the present pop-culture music and shit fails us soon I will turn to bands like Pink Floyd for hope for a better future in music!
I went to their show in wembley in the 80's ..fantastic music but noone gave me any drugs to fully appreciate the flyiing pig.. still good tho'...magic in fact..best live group,EVER ..memories that will last a life time ..nobody lives forever tho do they ..or do they ?
Sorrow is heaven on earth, and Gilmour is a god. I have every Pink Floyd release, but this song has always been my all-time favorite. Especially this live version. To hell with today's computer gimmicks and fake music -what are they compared to what this band can do live?
This is Floyd at their best.
All you fellow Pink Floyd fans out there, I salute you.
@DracoBorealis It is sad that the Delicate Sound of Thunder is not available on DVD. It was released on VHS and out of print . No doubt it IS the gem of all live performances.
@ma16360 Indeed. You can make a DVD of the VHS though, like I did. Ain't quite the same as the real deal though. Hopefully they'll release it as DVD one day.
@DracoBorealis The bands playing in the 80s are unbeatable, and this particular performance is off the chart of awesome. The new stuff is crud, pabulum, nonsubstance...
Thanks to all for rating my note below. This song opend the work of PF to me more than a year ago, since then music are not the same anymore. PF music does not go old. I had all their albums since then and I listen to them daily. Still amazed.
@ma16360 exactly, that what I like about them. Great music and no screaming, smashing guitars, freaky paintjobs, humping speakers whatsoever. Just wholesome, awesome entertainment.
I wouldn't exactly say Pink Floyd have "no gimmicks". I thing films, pyro, lasers, Vari-lites, and a giant inflatable pig might be described by some as "gimmicks".
@Kohntarkosz LOL! You are so right! I think gimmikcks are cool as long as you know how to use them. And PF knows how to use them better than anyone in the biz!----imho
Twenty years since first seeing the 'Delicate Sound Of Thunder' video, this live version of 'Sorrow' still maintains that dreamy futuristic look and a sound that's larger than life. Gilmour's guitar work is ethereal.
After 20 years since I first saw Delicate Sound Of Thunder on video, this live version of 'Sorrow' still leaves me in awe with its larger than life spectacle, dreamy soundscapes and David Gilmour's searing guitar. After two decades, I'm still speechless.
Best Intro Ever.

Seen PF in the Roman Arena in Verona in summer 1989, I was sixteen, I can clearly remember every single second of the gig even after 21 years.
Sorrow is a guitar technique and effects masterpiece.
Only who play Guitar and adore Mr. Gilmour can understand how difficult is to get even close to his legendary tone.
