i used to be a fan of fat fail and teller, until on their one show they tried to de-bunk the "myth" of 2nd hand smoking. and they said there is "NO SUCH THING AS 2ND HAND SMOKE", and that it's a "myth".. well i was just at a club and the smoke was so thick it looked like fog in the club, i felt like i was suffocating, and now my clothes and skin and hair smell like shit (my lungs are probably even more saturated with the toxins), and i have a pounding headache and congested sinuses and coughing.

I don't think I subscribe to the "beauty is truth, truth is beauty" dogma. There are a lot of ugly truths out there & a lot of beautiful lies. Either can motivate someone to do something moral/immoral, so neither is inherently good or evil. A bullshit idea that motivates someone to do good, or gives them peace, or makes them happy, is worthwhile. If they're living well, the only reason to shatter that illusion is the self-righteousness that comes from illuminating the folly of the believer.

@Chiren Well the problem isnt with the taking it, the moral problem is, as far as Im concerned, with making huge profits by selling something pretending its something else. Also if you have something that can be cured by a placebo thats great, but when people go for placebos to treat serious illnesses they might suffer or die needlessly, which is what makes some "placebos" outright dangerous and people who sell them incredibly immoral

And having fled Tibet as a teenager, he can hardly be blamed for the medieval system of government he was installed in as a child. Nor do I see a rejection by him of the modern. With experience, has been change, which is not well reflected in this episode, though not to deny the real bullshit that does occur in his position and the culture surrounding around him.

@eldrewto55 in india, ghandi is not nearly as revered as he is in the west. in fact, many resent him because he was kind of a "safe" middleman for the british to negotiate with rather than actually dealing with the resistance of the indian people, as the british had just fought a war and did not have the resources to handle an uprising.
