  • a funny valentine is on my channel

  • @TheShitArtist yeah that horrible book brought me here, I hated that book so much, Thank god I'm finished it, I wouldn't have read it if my English teacher wouldn't had forced me to

  • Beautiful, ruined NICO/ICON. xx

  • I first discovered this song years ago on a cheesy compilation called "Music For Vampires". A friend of mine and I laughed ourselves sore listening to this song over and over again. A few years after that the same friend and I went to go see "The Talented Mr. Ripley". An earlier recording of this song played during the movie. We took one look at each other and doubled over in hysterics. Ah good memories.

  • Feelin too sad now!!

  • Test

  • Beautiful, I really enjoyed this.

  • I like Nico but this is very depressing

  • I feel like this is being sung by a german vampire to her human victim.

(And I'm saying this as a diehard Nico fan, I promise, I love her to death lol)

  • @broadwaymelody33

You are so funny....but I can totally see that imagery now!

  • anyone here because of "Goldengrove"?

  • @TheShitArtist Yes. And I'm happy because I'm not the only one!

  • @TheShitArtist Yup

  • bonjour, hello,

    an other version..

  • I don't think of any of these people as "geniuses". I think terms of whether or not they put a song over and often didn’t like vocals of any on their early work, my appreciation that has grown over time. No, they produce on the same consistant or innovative level

What is SO wrong is your snobbery. The only person taking offense is you.

  • the vinyl of this is just so perfect.i play no longer

  • touching

  • She sings it so elegantly, with no beatings around the bushes. it's er style, she may not showcase her entire range like Sarah Vaughan, but i like this as much as sarah's version.

  • Dribble. Out of this fucking world FUCK

  • I've issued an All-Points-Bulletin in search of Nico's vocal talent.

    Nice arrangement...though.

  • No vocal talent.

    NIce arrangement.

  • I saw her in concert in Rennes 1986 . it's been one of the most beautiful concert i've ever seen

  • BRAVISSIMO

  • nice voice i m singer that sing the same standard jazz, i hope you enjoy!

  • The female Chet Baker - fabulous!

  • So beautiful woman with deep and beautiful voice. She's out of this world...

  • You are my favorite work of art. NICO- ICON

  • Don't throw anything at me, but she sounds a little like Chet Baker...

  • Nico war absolut klasse. RIP, Nico. Gone but not forgotten.

  • @Chuckesmaga What ? Are you totally fucked up ? It´s NICO.

    I´m sorry for you...

  • too dark for my tastes but its not a bad cover

  • Very photographable and unsurpassable cover. The definite My Funny Valentine. .

  • Nice version of this song.

  • In my opinion, that's falsetto :)

Girls with deep voice are happy ones, but people don't make them think that, because they appreciate more soprans :(

  • @arahnamantos

You are beautiful when you suffer. Some girls suffer when they are feminine, others when they are masculine.

    That's life.

  • Hello, for a full Nico discography REVIEW, see my channel. Cheerio.

  • This is great!!!

  • she?? lol

  • @al3xp4r7ycr4zy ...yes SHE... all woman

  • @al3xp4r7ycr4zy Fuck you :-)

  • @EngineOfRuin hey ass hole listen to it before you know who it is and it sounds like a man. Not saying shes bad just didnt think that voice would come from a woman lol

  • @al3xp4r7ycr4zy Yeah, great, see, now you have (hopefully) an idea what a voice can sound like.

  • @soragirl6 It's not that she has a deep voice. She just doesn't sound any good.

  • @NicoBattersby I swear i did not say this! Someone must have hacked into my account. I haven't even heard this song before. I am so sorry.

  • @soragirl6 i love this voice. but i hate to break it to you, this is a heroin voice. it wasn't this deep in the 60s...

  • @electric23sand I'm sorry someone hacked into my account, I did not say those things.

  • @soragirl6 such a vulgar comment for this song but I agree with the sentiment nonetheless

  • @Rapchaid I'm sorry I did not say this, someone hacked into my account. I am terribly sorry.

  • @soragirl6 lol? that was a year ago. You deleted it! Please tell me what it was that you said!

  • @Rapchaid When someone said, this is good music, but people would rather suck on Taylor Swift's dick. lol Someone hacked in and said that. lol

  • @soragirl6 i would suck nico's dick.

  • GREAT NICO!

  • This is somehow awful, yet intriguing at the same time. Nico might very well be the Edith Massey of vocalists.

  • @ElvisWexler oh no... no... Nico is amazingly beautiful.

  • @dava334 if you have a sad sense of humour..probably it's hilarious

  • @dava334 Thank you.

  • Gracias Nico.. donde quiera que estés.

  • magnifique ! le grande dame ! Merci !

  • I like Nico but this one is too... manly

  • @macmule She had a very deep voice. It is unique in a very Nico way. People should think she is even more amazing for her rare voice. Especially in this song. She really was born to perform this song.

  • Magical and Melancholic :)

  • amazing

  • perfect. i love this rendition by her. i can listen to it for hours over and over

  • unica!!!

  • her version and chet bakers are the best of this song

  • @TheTwenty3sog Scott Walker, Anthony Hegarty, Patrick Wolf, Marianne Faithfull...Could go on, theres lots of great unique vocalists out there

  • i HAVE LOVED HER SO MUCH, And It's really hard to swallow that she has left us to soon!!!!!!!!!! Oh man, 'Any Warhol'

  • great great unique voice

  • Suprise suprised, the comments are infested by youtube 'version comparison' bores.

This is unique you fucking drones, comparing this to chet baker is just completely idiotic. Can you actually hear?

  • Ik moet er van huilen...

  • Ik moet er van huilen

  • wow....this is a really intense version of this song. i love it.

  • @jimmeecrazee ... to each their own.

  • @SavethexQueen

Keep your pretentious snobbery out of this place, will ya?

  • @ihatetospam go write some spam will ya?... hater.

  • @SavethexQueen This is a good time to say "LOL". Uhhhh, who's the hater?

  • @ihatetospam dude, since when is giving an opinion "hating"? be civilized and less confrontational, please.

  • @SavethexQueen First time I come across this song and I seriously thought it was a man singing

  • When I listen to these songs it reminds me of a night I had with a young lady in a haunted bedroom.

  • @DenisJUMONT very funny Denis

  • When you sleep, you can think of the man you like.

Even if it's not the one who's by your side.

  • indeed she is good but chet baker version better i recon.

  • you maake me smile with my heart

  • Ein Ausnahmetalent - hat sich verströmt!

  • no way

  • Chills...<3

  • this is really goood!!! btw check out my version on my page pleasee!!:)

  • etta james

  • Stupenda interpretazione...

  • god! lowest range ever on a female!! x

  • epic voice

  • Sim senhora, Sra Dona Nico, além do seu nome rimar com "penico" a sua versão do "My Funny Valentine" está muito jeitosa para andar ao colo, fazer enchidos e outras coisas giras. Gostei!

  • I just heard this for the first time and it has touched my heart. Nico never fails to surprise me.

  • You can think what you like about it but i reckon the important thing is nico's made the song her own and what it means to her isn't necessarily what it means to you so why even bother comparing it to other versions?

  • beautifully haunting

  • This cover is very androgynous, but in a good way. I love Nico's vibrato in this song.

  • Iv'e heard all the different versions of this song and for me, Nico projects the feeling of the lyric beautifully but more importantly, brings you into the moment and makes you believe its message. She makes it real. Chet Baker's approach is similar in that they inhabit the lyric fully and move into the realm of sheer expression and emotion, into a place where you can listen and say, Yes! Yes! I understand!

  • une très grande version ! j'ai eu la chance de la voir à Rennes en 1986 . un de mes plus beaux concerts

  • But don't change your hair for me

Not if you care for me.

    Stay little valentine, stay!

    Each day is Valentine's Day...

  • @a96sp It's "don't change A hair for me."

  • Lovely song, and I enjoy a number of versions of it. Elvis Costello did a good one.

And Nico has a place in music history no one can negate, ever.

  • very nice. I like this the best, but I do dig Chet Baker's version. I don't dig sinatra's much. Didn't Nina Simone do a version too?

  • what a bunch of ignorant and close-minded ignorants.

the sentence "it has to be..." is something that irritates me deeply.

    Nothing has to be.

  • yeah, like so many songs out there, nobody does this one better than Sinatra.

  • @pandapoesiemao ...I presume English isn't your mother tongue. That for how you phrase things. I presume you are bitter, insecure, and never got a good education. That for your mind. Ask your friends to club some money together and send you to collage. You're a bully, an art-fascist, and not the least of it, an idiot. Happy New Year though.

  • love this years since ive heard this, ive still got the beggars lp somewhere, the trumpet and piano is all you need on this

    Class

  • such clarity and depth comes with a price,,

  • of course this version is not jazzy, it's not supposed to be. it's meant to be cold and rigid as it is, it's not just in her voice, it's in the whole arrangement, the piano that follows the tempo strictly and the synth-like sound of the saxophone. if you can't get over sinatra or chet baker, you're not likely to appreciate this version.

  • Chet's version is the best.

  • No CHET BAKER has BAR NONE inargueably the BEST version ever. Nothing compares to Chets version.

  • sooo damn true, dont know why they are giving you a thumb down. Nico sings like it's a classical song... it has to be freakin jazzz!!

  • There are no inarguable positions when it comes to aesthetics. Clearly any number of versions compare to Chet's take by virtue of BEING different versions.

  • Why do people have a problem with the fact there isn't and probably never going to universal agreement on anything as subjective as music.

If like, fine. If you love it, great. If your prefer Sinatra's, Chet Baker's, Elvis Costello's, or any of a horde of people who have recorded it - that's really okay too.

This isn't supposed to a competitive event.

Y'all got to grow up, respect other people's opinions, and stop acting like some who doesn't agree with you is dead stupid or a troll.

  • @himself801 Nope. Sorry. People who disagree with me aren't dead stupid or trolls. I understand that. But there IS a difference between good and bad music. Regardless of this particular piece, some music out there IS trash and some IS brilliant. To say otherwise is just naive and honestly, it's a bit of a smack in the face to the people who push and strive to create truly beautiful art.

It's not a competition and we ALL will never agree on it but that doesn't mean it's all the same.

  • @FSquid EXCELLENT point! Thank you for expressing this so eloquently and with gusto!

Apply this same comment to the visual arts, etc.

  • beautiful

  • She was definitely born to sing this song. Wonderful!

  • stupid cunt "was for rhoda80 and his pointless "tranny-like

    not to MY beloved nico

  • Diferente. Maravillosa. Extraña.

  • so poignant

  • Well I happen to think she brings a tragic realism to this song...

  • Thanks. But no thanks.

And it`s one of my favourite songs. But she has destroyed it.

  • Comment removed

  • She's doing her own thing. She's unique. That's why I love her.

  • I like Nico, but I just have to agree with you. I dont like her version at all. Nobody can sing this better than mr. Sinatra

  • ....this is a wonderful arrangement of a great song many thanks for putting it up here. Timeless.....

  • This is the best version ever...thanks for posting

  • a dark marlene deitrich...etherial

  • Awesome rendition by a totally wonderful musician .

  • O sotaque (accent) dela me lembra Nina Simone cantando Ne me quittes pas.

Acho muito charmoso e melancólico também.

  • amazing....such a eerie voice :)))

  • nico was sooo cool. <3

  • My all-time favorite version... perfect.

  • used to listen to that song so often... such a good cover.

  • the most great cover the my funny valentine ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Nico was a genius!!!(yeah, a junkie too, but she got off it last couple of years, & then she get's a brain aneurysm - how ironic & sad is that. Lot of people of course covered this song Sinatra, Chet Baker.. but this version seems the most true and haunting.
