  • I think gay people should hide in these times where the West is in a transition to an Islamic society. The last thing they would want is to be in some sort of record registered as gay when Islam takes over. I think the real priority should be given to curing the spreading Islamic cancer in order to create a sustainable foundation for something like gay marriage.

  • Ireland should not recognize abnormal relationships. Gay people need help.

  • @Spillers72 since I made this video, civil partnerships have become legal. The new government has promised to review the constitutional issues of same sex marriage, and given the popular support for it, I reckon we've a good chance of having full same sex marriage within a few years. Fingers crossed anyway :)

  • I think it's stupid that gay couples aren't allowed to adopt chrildren. I think that gay's should have the same rights as normal people do. Your right that is discrimination against everyone. there is a show you should watch it's called as the world turns and They have a gay couple on there their names are luke and noah and watch Luke's story because his family wasn't very accepting of him at first I think that is the way most families are at first.

  • @TvBox333 cheers!

  • @TvBox333 Check the UK and see how many rights we have secured since the Civil Partnership Act came into play back in 2005 including the right to adopt, change of birth certificates and now new legislation for approval in religious buildings.

Its a game of stepping stones, little at a time and in 5 years the UK has achieved so much

  • "The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens, and declares its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts, cherishing all the children of the nation equally, and oblivious of the differences carefully fostered by an alien government, which have divided a minority from the majority in the past."

  • @duirling great quote, cheers!

  • Its time to be heard. Thanks for your awareness raising. My partner and I are having a civil Partnership in UK and the lack of recognition in my homeland feeds into some of the homophobic responses we get. I'll see what I can do to rais awareness too.....

  • The more awareness the better of course. And best of luck to you and your partner!

  • In their defence, they don't confine gay people to this. They often don't stand up for all Irish people like they're supposed to. Eg. CIA planes refuelling in Shannon while rendering people to Guantanamo. Ps, Hooray for HD Mush!

  • I think that your argument here is great because of how well-structured, thought-out and REASONED it is. Especially on the adoption/guardianship issue, which from what you say, doesn't even seem to have been debated. I think Ireland should be progressive on gay marriage, (instead of yet again being 25 years behind everybody else) if for no other reason than it is because what the Irish people want on this issue. You told me once that 65% of Irish people would not

  • oppose gay marriage? (please correct) Or, the politicians should at the very least, (instead of making the assumption that it's what Irish people don't want, based on their own PERSONAL oppinion) ASK them.

  • Indeed. But they're too afraid - they don't want to have to campaign on the issue. They don't want to get off their butts and stand up for the minorities of this country like they're supposed to.

  • Left 4 dead's a good game

  • Well spotted. Anything that involves shooting zombies gets my seal of approval :)

  • Well I would totally agree with you and your points, I would fear there would never be an Irish legislator who would be "brave" enough to take that step. But who know perhaps some day, sooner than later. Civil marriage for all those whom want it.

  • Well the more we can get this issue out there into the public the better. And getting positive reactions such as I've seen here all helps dispell the notions of a country not ready for it so thanks for your comments too. I suppose at the end of the day, a new set of elected representatives wouldnt go astray, so long as they had the balls to stand up and do what's right.

  • I'm not one for commenting on videos as a whole, but felt compelled to say something in this case, Firstly I can't believe the attitude of the "burn in hell" comment. Personally I am for gay marriage / civil partnership or what ever people would like to call it, as long as both heterosexual & homosexual are treated as equals in every possible way.

  • And as you said no one has the right to adopt but everyone should have the right to be considered. Just to point out as to why I would say civil partnership or gay marriage is as you know the word "marriage" has deep connections with Catholicism ( and sure there is no such thing as a gay Catholic) in this country and people are just too narrow minded to separate the two, its one of those sad things about Ireland. I hope things work out as you would like. Stay proud.

  • I wouldn't worry about the "burn in hell" comment - it was a joke. I know the guy. Hence my reply with the ";)" - as for the word marriage, I don't accept that catholics or any religion have sole ownership of the term. there is civil marriage in this country that has nothing to do with the churches and that's what I'm looking for. The whole point is that its the civil institution of marriage that should be opened up for all. The churches can keep religious marriages to themselves if they like :)

  • You'll burn in hell for your sinful ways. *shakes fist*

  • Oh undoubtedly. It's good to know that you'll probably be there with me. I've seen how you look at inanimate objects like tables and footstools ;)

  • Two words for you Mush...sock puppets

  • i agree with you

  • thanks ben. it's great to be getting such positivity from everyone.

  • Calling it a civil partnership, does indeed make it sound like a contract. It's amazing to see how allowing us equal rights scares people. We don't mesh in their lives, so why mess with ours.

I guess I'm quite happy living in Luxembourg cause they're pretty liberal here, I think us gays can get married here (proper ceremony and all), but I'm not positive. But the problem is, I don't want to live here when I'm older. :(

  • The thing is I think most people here in Ireland probably wouldn't give a sh*t either but the government here are too scared to give us the equality we deserve. A recent survey showed support of 66% in favour of full civil marriage for gays in Ireland. And yet the government here remain committed to the tepid vapidity that is civil partnership! It boils my goat.

  • I wish all countries all over the world were as advanced as two of the neighboring countries around mine... in Belgium and the Netherlands gay people are allowed to marry AND adopt

Great video, and beautiful picture at the start :)

    Tom

  • Thanks Tom. And that pic is one of my favourites - it includes someone very special to me :)

  • So I've heard! :D

And, I would say "I hope things are good with you two." and "I hope you have a life-time long relationship filled with love and joy"... but I'm pretty damn sure you're both happy and well, and always will be happy together! :)

  • thanks :)

  • I agree. Either a marriage is a civil contract and should be dealt with by contract law - in the same way for everyone - or it has some additional standing and benefits (and responsibilities), which should not be denied to any one on the basis of sexual orientation, sex, colour or creed.

    Well said, Mush.

    Myles

  • Thanks Myles :)

  • The thing that really annoys me about this issue is that the majority of people stopping gay marriage are straight. Gay marriage doesn't affect straight people in any way so I don't see why we should have a problem with it.

  • Indeedily - its so crazy that people think that me marrying another man is all of a sudden going to implode there straight marriage

  • It is interesting how governments do not seem to realize how many more legal problems they create for themselves by trying to put people into new categories. Here in Canada the same groups are still fighting over every word of new legislation. Having Gay Marriage has made our society a little more open - It will take a few more generations before the haters see that our Country is not falling apart because of this one issue. Stay Strong:)

  • Thanks Man. And you should be proud - Canada is a model for the rest of the world on this issue. Your country shows how it should be done! I'm sure there are opponents to it there too, but at least it got introduced. We can take strength from that and bring that to our fight :)

  • I completely agree. The name 'civil partnership' alone sounds patronising and clinical and just re-enforces the stigmas. Great post as usual =)

  • thanks - it's an issue that I want to raise the profile of, hence the video. It really is quite unfortunate that our government doesn't have the balls to stand up for equality.
