  • My mother's favorite kind of music. I cherish her memory through these voices in songs. I am very appreciative of the exposure to beauty.

Thanks Mom. Miss you a whole lot. RIP

  • i love this song

  • I love this song. The platters are a favorite. God Bless You, Gwen

  • Freddie was dropped on his head so took it up the back passage and it killed him, if I killed some one they would call it murder

  • @Smokin4CHRIST you are crazy.

  • That's odd. This is NOT the version of THe Platters singing "The Great Prentender" that I've been listening to all of my life. This version is less dramatic. On the version that I have, dude is belting out like tragic clown about to commit suicide in an opera.

  • love it

  • Who sings this? Not too bad, but the original Platters version is still the best!

  • This could easily be Barrack Obama's theme song!!!

  • thanks for keeping music a live not this crap today

  • Sorry, but they sing nothing like the original Platters. Nothing, and I mean nothing can ever compare to the incomparable of the Original. Its a poor imitation to express in the least.

  • If you listen caefully, you can tell that this song had a huge influence on Queen's "Play The Game".

  • I like Freddie's version AND this version :3 and I'm a HUGE Queen/Freddie Mercury fan -3-

  • hermosas voces, linda canción .....

  • 50'S & 60'S AN UN FORGETABLE ERA FOR THOSE OF US

WHO WERE YOUNGSTERS THEN~BUT TODAYS KIDS HAVE SOME GREAT STUFF!!

  • Great music.

  • this isn't played by platters, is false

  • cool that the label on record is mercury.! did they know freddie would make a cover ?? ;-)

  • 99% of the human race play, why, lol thank you, love this song.

  • i seem, to be...what i'm not, you see....

  • Great song! Thanks for posting!

  • thumbs up if freddie mercury´s version brought you here

  • Thankyou for posting this song, Love this version, was one of my Grandmas favourite songs and was played at her funeral. RIP Nan. Love you. xx

  • Thanks to my Mom I heard these songs, along with so many others; her tste in music is how I know these great artists.

    Thanks Mom :) RIP

  • It's not the original, if you see the original platters performance in 1955 ("posted here on you tube") it sounds alot better. This guy singing is really not a great pretender.

  • @GenresAgo It's the same guy singing the lead in both versions, McFly,....Tony Williams.

  • good song

  • @mpm1991 the guy to his right looks like a taller version of Carlton

  • I prefer Freddie Mercury version, I think he improved the song as always he did with everything!!

  • The Platters hit #2 in Billboard, 1-28-56. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • I love Freddie's version because it's so camp and quite literally one of the gayest things I've ever seen! But this version will ALWAYS be the best. LOVE The Platters!

  • Am i the only one who laugh after seeing Mercury Records on the cover ?

  • THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL!

  • 6 people dont no real music :D

  • foreeewer

  • Sidane are you an idiot? Queen didn't cover this song, Freddie Mercury did and this ain't boring. After all, don't knock the origanal because without it, cover versions wouldn't of have been made. And furthermore, why are you even here if you dislike this version?

. . . . Perhaps you were just droped on your head as a child.

  • A great song; I didn't realize that it was this old.

  • @Sidane1 Moron! Both versions are fantastic! & it was Freddie Mercury solo!

  • Yo that's me, in the center!!! I do still wear that dress! :)

  • this song matchers many people we all pretend one way or the othere but thats life

  • OMG I LOVE THE MUSIC OF THE MID 50'S. THIS IS MY GENERATION

  • My grandpa always listened this (:

  • Will Smith? Are you kidding? The Platters formed in 1953. Will Smith wasn't born until 1968. The original group consisted Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. And, incidently the guy on the left is David Lynch. David was born in 1929. You just might want to re-think that one!

  • @EDP0RTER He was joshin'. This is the internet, don't take things too seriously.

  • timeless

  • reminds me of my daddy

  • i am HARIZON T. SIMON

  • I miss you Great Pretender and I am still around.

    Hooky

  • Great song for a blue day.

  • Love them!

  • 3 people are pretending that they are human

  • the dude behind her is carlton

  • Will Smith, Mohammed Ali, Sammy Davis Jr., and Cuba Gooding Jr.

  • @nicozzy1 That made me laugh out loud

  • the dude on the left is will smith

  • @henriquelocks marlon wayans imo.

  • The dude on the right is Cuba Gooding Jr.

  • This is one of those doowop song that has the rite rythm & lyrics to get stuck in my head!

  • Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh

  • 2 people have no taste in music whatsoever.

  • my parents met them

  • This is rubbish ,it's not the platters

  • @bgee4

    Yes, it is The Platters.

  • @spitfire9b it might be, but that's not Tony williams on lead vocals

  • @bgee4 you are to young to know the real platters

  • @5433429 Nonsense! There is always such thing as research.

  • Dave here. I was in the 11th grade in '55-'56 when this became my favorite song. I played it many times. Even tried to analyze it to figure out why I loved it so much. I think it was what satirist Stan Freberg called, "that cling-cling jazz" in his satirical recording of "The Great Pretender." It also fit my mood at the time: depressed, frustrated, but I tried not to show it. Jerry Vale's "You Don't Know Me" was also a theme of mine. Liked all Platters' music. Still do. @themusicman: agreed

  • Great song.

  • This is not the original. I played it every week at our high school dance and this version is too low in pitch. 78s4FR has posted the original.

  • the man at the left is Will Smith O.o

  • @mpm1991 Lol, wow! you're right!

  • @mpm1991 ha ha, your a funny guy. Pretty good though; good eye. N E way. Funny how? The way I talk? funny how, Like I'm a clown, like I amuse you?I make you laugh? I'm here to fn amuse you...?

  • @mpm1991 or his dad:)

  • @mpm1991 is that carlton next to him?

  • @mpm1991 hahahaha thats funny...it really looks like him from that far

  • @mpm1991 LOL the second guy from the right is Bill Cosby :)

  • @mpm1991 I think Carlton is next to him

  • Don't assume that this isn't the original just because youtube says it's a re-recording. I've watched a video before with a Disturbed song on it, and under the video the little box said it was a completely different song by Drowning Pool...

    FAILS DO HAPPEN

  • @themusicmanknowsall If this is The Platters, it's a later incarnation of the group that didn't include the great Tony Williams on lead vocals.

  • This is a HORRIBLE version and is NO WAY the platters!! Why would you post trash like this and claim it to be the Platters? Rubbish!!!!!!

  • I'D LOVE TO BE BORN IN THAT TIME FOR ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC BUT UNFORTUNATELY I LIVE IN THIS TIME NASTY

  • wow music of my dad's time hehehehe

  • A classic tune. Love it.

  • The Platters. Flying Saucers.

  • Thanx for posting this. This is when singers actually SANG! Great tune.

  • This is not the original not even close. Bad imitation of Tony williams

  • m

lo avessi saputo prima..comunque si chiama Sandra.Le Nadie sono tutte puttane!

  • This has just got to be one of the all time greats. There has never been a group has good has this and, I'm sure, never will be. Thanks for their music postings....

  • what are the chords to this song?

  • Not the original! This is Platters immitating The Platters!

  • THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL... IT'S A GREAT IMITATION... Yes a Great Pretender. YOU SEEM TO BE but you're not we HEAR.. hahaha..

  • This song is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.

  • A wonderful song by a once in a life time group. I love it.

  • great Original!

  • @peachomatic3000 This is a remake.

  • How ironic after all these years. I'm thinking of all the pretenders who attempted to imitate this song - nice to hear the original. Thanks for posting.

  • @CheckMate657879

    It's not the original, Skippy.

  • @reverendflash What do you mean? Are you saying that isn't the Platters?

  • @reverendflash So who did do the original? Wikipeadia say The Platters did it first.

  • @CheckMate657879

No, this is not the original and not nearly as good. It's okay, but loses the angst.

Play the one where the guy is playing it on a 78 playerl. Not great quality, but still much better.

  • @CheckMate657879 That's not irony.

  • @CheckMate657879 Have you heard Freddie Mercury though? He's the only one who could EVER make this song sound perfect. Also, way to many legendary songs are being taken by 'modern' artists and being made 'modern'. It's sad that's what people consider 'music' today.

  • nice song

  • Nel 1956 avevo 17 anni e con questo disco imparai a ballare. Mi insegnò una mia amica. Si chiamava Sandra, era biondina e mi piaceva, ma non travai mai il coraggio di dirglielo. Oggi chissà dov'è...
