Eeeeeek. The music is probably the worse thing on the planet - it sounds like a weird rendition of the TMNT theme. Maybe the creators of this game didn't have the rights to it?
Sound effects sound strange. The hitting noises are like someone bashing two pieces of silverware together.
One thing always confused me was the name of the scene. Scene 5: We gotta find the technodrome!! And when you start playing the scene, you're already there.
It should have been named "Scene 5: We found the technodrome!!"
Imagine being sentenced to life in prison...they give you the coldest, dampest, mustiest cell they have...and for 24 hours a day, for the rest of your natural life, they play THIS music. NON-STOP...until the day you die.
I've sat through it for just a minute and i'm thinking about suicide.
hahaha now this is where you can appreciate being a console owner in 1994 instead of one of those DOSSERs, although I had both a 386 and Consoles to get all the gaming greatness.
this port would have been decent if it wasnt destroy by that horrible turtles tune, they should of just play the level theme 1 song during the whole game that would of kicked ass.
Along with everything else, that battle with the Shredder(s) is just god-awful. I can't help but laugh as they just appear out of nowhere from Krang's exploding body and then march in a single-file line whenever they follow Leo.
way to take a classic arcade game (one of the best multiplayer beat 'em ups of all time) and turn it isn't crappy looking (and sounding) cheese! argh. this game doesn't get enough credit. thanks for posting it though, you have the patience of a saint to get through the whole thing!
What the hell? This is just an abomination! I mean some people complain about the NES port, but this is completely unacceptable. That annoying crappy music would drive me insane before level 3! I
Friggin True.... I mean, how many times can you listen to the same 8 measures before you want to become an hero?
This looks as if no effort was made with porting it over! The NES version was atleast made fun. This half-hearted attempt was just a cash-in to those that thought they completed the port.
The people who came up with the brilliant idea to use the same fucking annoying music loop through the entire game, even during the boss battles and after you beat the game, should have their brains removed and replaced by coconuts.
skalberg242, they probably already DID have their brains removed and replaced with coconuts while they were developing this wretched port of the game.
Out of curiosity, does this version include the two "bounty hunter stages" (w/ Shogun and Tora) like the NES port? If so, it would be interesting to see how those look with the better graphics...
@XSC3 the hyperstone heist (the dialogue for this game alas is probably the most unforgivably bad in the whole series), which was mostly based on the snes version of turtles in time, sports a level loosely based on the ninja palace, but Tatsu replaces the shogun android, lookup Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Hyperstone Heist 3-2 for a video which shows the part of the game based on it.
@hdofu I actually quite enjoyed Hyperstone Heist on the Genesis (I own it, along with TMNT IV for the SNES). I agree that it pales in comparison to the SNES game in most respects (the overall speed and dash button being the only improvements). still, it was a fun game, and had a little extra unintentional humor (like Rocksteady exploding like a huge bomb)
Well, technically that jumping slash move is a cheat -- if you can get in really close and do it repeatedly, you'll be able to attack the enemy while avoiding injury. Without that, though, the villains' attacks are so effective that the game is impossible to beat.
Certainly the better version of all released graphics wise but what can you expect, even the PCs of the time had better capabilities for color and resolution. Seems that it had a serious problem with control and animation though. Was it actually coded by Konami for the PC? like the NES version was?. Oh and that music was terrible MIDI music, this would have been used to conserve disk space. How many disks is this game?
The control really isn't all *that* terrible -- it's responsive enough, just pretty tough unless one uses the cheap jumping "special" repeatedly. It does say that it was coded by Konami, but I have no idea whether that's really true.
And the game is actually less than one disk -- it takes up about a meg on my HD. Those were the days, eh? :)
Sadly this was a poor port of the arcade version. While the game layout was faithful and the graphics better than competing ports of the time, the controls and music were awful... the gameplay suffers greatly as a result. Too bad! Just a few years later pc's were capable of faithfully porting the arcade game. It's a shame that wasn't taken advantage of...
Well, Nintendo didn't start gaming, all they did was revitalize the console market in the late 80's. Atari did more to get home console gaming started in the early days, long before the NES came out. And the NES wasn't always the best system. The hardware certainly wasn't the best on the market, but Nintendo's strongarm liscensing tactics and huge marketing hype ensured it became virtually synonymous with video gaming for nearly a decade.
What the fuck is that music? That is the most annoying shit since Back to the Future's for the NES. You would think they would have at least tried to put the music from the arcade in this and not this god awful shit I'm hearing now.
If the NES can do it (somewhat) then there's no excuse for this version not to be able to. The graphics look like shit too. They remind me of the early Sega Genesis titles...stick figure movements etc.
Welllllllll the graphics I don't mind so much, Shredder notwithstanding -- this is a pretty old DOS game, after all. But yes, the music is horrific. And bafflingly so at that, since they aptly included many of the NES tunes in the PC version of TMNT1! Ah well, what can you do. :)
That is certainly not the original music (the NES had the same tunes - of course it sounded different because of the different hardware), but this sounds like music doesn't fit at all and stays the same for every scene?
It's actually kind of a catchy tune. It would have been cool if they just used it for one level and went on to something else. As it stands I can see how it would be maddening to listen to it through the entirety of the game.
