in the german NVA the ural carried different equipment on his back, like fuel tanks, cranes or a normal platform to transport soldiers and cargo. in this rear cab called "koffer" (german word for suitcase) it could carry a radio station, a mobile workshop or a mobile aid station in such a rear cab.
Actually it's a V8 7L gas engine - not a tire burner, these engines are old technology but will burn anything from gasoline to Vodka. apparently the driver wasn't that experienced, but I would put a Ural up against nearly anything else out there for it's age and size. The Ural trucks are rugged and will operate in -55F through 105F (as they have to in Siberia).
I know i know... just kidding :) We have few Russian ZIL 131´s and KRAZ´s in Finnish army base where i served.. ZIL also has a gasoline V8 with humongous ~140 hp :D
Finnish Army -Nice ! you guys get all the cool toys, Sisu's to Kraz. The Ural's do have a funky sound, sort of like a old two stroke scooter on steriods. That and they have a real funky smell.
Very good drive train. Can distribute engine power to all wheels at the same time.

The older Ural-375 has the 7L V8, the truck in the video is the 4320 model which has an 11L DIESEL v8 :)
