All thrice is amazing but illusion for me is the best album ever written and I don't think nostalgia has a thing to do with it, some people just love fast melodic music and dustins voice just lent it's self so well to that style, raw and aggressive some lyrical themes were meant to be screamed it's strikes a chord in the heart of the reckless
I've been listening to Thrice for years and this album isn't anything compared to their older stuff. Red Sky EP and Vheissu were ground breaking and the amount they evolve with each album is just retarded
this is awesome. illusion will always be my favorite, but i grew up listening to that kinda stuff. Thrice has evolved SO much as a band. The people who bitch ....i guess I expect the band to play nothing but speed punky posthardcore til they are 70 years old? This is the most underated band of all mf'n time. This is what music is SUPPOSED TO have ...soul
illusion of safety = #1 Thrice ablum, hands down. All true thrice heads know this. This shit is dope too... but they fell off after Artist (which was pretty meh anyway)
@yobouysway Ok...one word...FIREBREATHER (not on either album, but VERY heavy - and not in a ARRGHHH way, like a sludgy doomy HEAVY riff kinda way...which is the way to be heavy!)
@yobouysway they never fell off...they diversified their style; thank god, because the scene turned into a bunch of preteens wearing women pants and wearing fancy t shirts
This band deserve to be massive. Unfortunately the world wouldn't get it. Every album is super cool, right back to the illusion of safety. Big up thrice for coming back with a new one, looking forward to it!
Ah, Thrice is so awesome. Vheissu was the last thing I expected after Artist in the Ambulance, and then the Alchemy Index surprised me again (4 separate times!), Beggars as well. They have music to fit any mood that I happen to find myself in.
the beggars album is actually really really good if you listen to the lyrics. the words are amazing and its one of my faves of theres. this sounds very 90s
this is what i love about thrice.. every time you think they'll never come up with a new song, they blow your mind with something out of this world!!! and every song is different, every album a different touch, like they're a different band! the best part is that every song they write never gets old! band of the century!
Loved Beggars... Haven't been able to get into much of their older stuff for some reason, though I'm sure it'll "click" at some point. This song is sparta with a rage riff performed by better musicians than either of those bands have. Lookin forward to the new album!
this is cool, but when the fuck are they getting back to deadbolt type stuff, at least somewhat, face it beggars wasnt that great, everyhing else was awesome but i skip most tracks on beggars, im sure im not the only one who wants more paper tigers esque stuff from these guys
They won't. Remember, they're not making music for you. You want some more Illusion of Safety? Put IoS in your player, hit "repeat," and listen away. You're probably one of those assholes that screams "DEADBOLTZ!@!!" all the time at their concerts. That album's nearly ten years old, get over it. Let the artist make the music, and let yourself appreciate it for what it is.
@americanindisguise "I do get that people are nostalgic for things, but I think they confuse nostalgia for good music – like, that they can coincide. I can have nostalgia for something pretty awful, but it's because I liked it at a certain point in my life and I still have a fondness for it. (laughs)
I don't know. Those people bore me to a degree and it's old and laughable... they ask, "Does this fall into the category I want it to fall into? No? Then I don't like it." " -Dustin Kensrue
Alright, there'll always be a special place in my heart for Illusion of Safety but it's NOT EVEN CLOSE to the best music Thrice has made. Milk and Meat, I can easily understand where your passion for the music comes from but not your perspective.
Although The Alchemy Index with always be my favorite out of their work, it's so nice to hear new music by Thrice. They go through a lot of changes with every album they release and that makes it very easy for people to pick and choose favorites, but even my least favorites are still amazing work. They're just so talented and incredible.
the one person who disliked this is an attention whore of a fag and needs to burn in a hole infested with 30,000 demonic gay unicorns of evil...THRICE FTW
this song is fuckin awesome, sounds so grungy, i love the guitar tone. i get a radiohead vibe in a very good way round 1:49. this record is going to be among thrice's finest work, I think
@milkandmeat Water and Air were good but Illusion of Safety is still the most indescribable musical triumph of our time to me...the way everything is hard but at the same time flowing; the profound nature of the lyrics; and perhaps most of all its the best mixed album I've ever heard. It still gives me boners after 9 years...one of my biggest regrets in life is not going to see the release tour for that album (coheed was promoting second stage on the same tour) simply b/c AFI was there.
So let's seperate the diehard fans from the "fans".
-Diehard fans will listen to this song and say "Wow, I'm loving what kind of style they've got here. It's new and edgy, gonna be interesting to see how this album plays out.'
-"Fans" will like the song only because they feel obligated to, because it was made by Thrice and not for the actual love of the music.
-Losers will say "They need to do some of their old styles!" because they only like that style. They are the lowest.
Damn, I've been listening to these guys since I was 17 (now 26) and my personal favorite has always been "The Illusion Safety" with "Artist in the Ambulance" coming in at a close second. But, "Vhiessu", "The Alchemy Index", and "Beggars" cannot simply be discounted. Each album has it's own experience, but I will say that on a personal level, "Beggars" is my least favorite of all their work. I am digging this opening track and it feels like "Major/Minor" is going to rock! Can't wait for it!
I love every Thrice record to date (not including First Impressions EP haha) but Vheissu is Thrices' crowning achievement. Its a masterpiece. If Major/Minor comes anywhere near that I will be soooo happy.
@dannynatmusic I agree with that statement pretty much 100%. I do like Alchemy Index's display of how many styles they can do, but then again I have a hard time saying a concept album can do it for me like a regular one.
I hate all these newbie Thrice listeners that think Beggars is there best album... or that the Air and Water discs were their best work. They were great, but they don't come close to their older albums where there was much more feeling and rawness.
@corruptedsilence I love both their second and third album insanely much, but Vheissu and The Alchemy Index are even a little better. If you can't find any feeling in there, you must be a weird person.
Seriously, I never understood people saying their new stuff sucks.
Whether it's The Illusion of Safety, Artist in the Ambulance, Vheissu, Alchemy Index or Beggars this band can do no wrong. Each album is different and follows a different set of rules.. This album seems to encapsulate all of Thrice to this point the epic sound of Vheissu, the aggression of The Illusion of Safety and the atmosphere of Alchemy Index.. That's just from one song.. This album is going to be a beast,
they need to do more shit like the water and air discs of the alchemy index. that was the best music they've ever made. beggars felt empty to me for the most part. the only standout track on that album to me is wood and wire.
@Chintiki16 thats the genius of thrice tho.. they write what ever THEY feel like.. and they have SOO much music so there's an album for just about everyone. My favorite album has always been there newest because they just keep getting better.. but if one person like's water better.. that's awesome.. because thrice has that much variety in there music.
I'm not discrediting it in any way, but the alchemy index was purely experimental? They were hesitant about even releasing it for a while! And if you don't think "Circles" and "The Weight" are standout tracks from Beggars then you cannot be a true Thrice fan!! This album will be something between the epicness of Vheissu with the raw tones of Beggars. I'M SO EXCITEDDDD!!!
@milkandmeat As i've always said about Thrice, they're the type of musicians who grow on you. And when they do, it's a f*($in trip cause they're really musical geniuses. Beggars was amazing for me esp In Exile which i think is one of the best written-songs ever (w/o exaggeration). Lyrics of In Exile is just amazing. Can't wait for the new album!
@milkandmeat See, the amazing thing about Thrice is that they have all of these different sounds that they can incorporate to everything they make. It blows my mind every time I sit down and really listen to them.
