  • is that Johnny Desmond?

  • @annanoli Yes it is...

  • Nice, though a bit too fast, don't you agree? By the way was it Johnny Best who played the trumpet solo on the original studio recording. There is one 'live' Chesterfield broadcast where indeed Bobby Hackett is the soloist.

  • Glenn Miller eternizou-se com suas lindas músicas. Maravilha!

  • Maravilhoso!!!

  • got the entire show? would LOVE to restore it

  • wow awesome

  • i like artie shaw's better - the swingy one

  • Very nice trumpet version of Bobby Hackett's cornet solo. You can't expect a carbon copy of the original band. Miller's band never put their instruments in the case. He had the guys playing around the clock. With that much performing and rehearsing, they played as one.

  • I'm going to be a total contrarian here--WAY too much clarinet dominating on the lead at the beginning. Listen to the original GM band ca. 1939--Willie Schwartz REALLY had it right--a true blend in the the reeds--not clar. dominated. Really love that brass section, though--truely a nice balance throughout! One thing to note: Ray McKinley's recording of Stardust, 1947 is WAY more interesting (his version, arr. by Eddie Sauter no less!!!!)

  • Thank you again CC Jazzmen2 for this wonderful video. I wonder why Ray had Ed Zandy play frequent trumpet solos when the great Bobby Nichols is sitting beside him. Bobby was one of the original personnel in the AFFB.

  • @Frankieman1 Was McKinley the type to play favorites?? (Or maybe just a bias??). Very interesting point, though. Hey, absolutely lovely sound from Bobby Jones. CC: thanks so much for another really fine view of Ray McKinley--alas, even if he is stuck doing the GM thing,--when he was such a supurb (and original) leader in his own right. Thanks!

  • @Frankieman1 Ed Zandy did a better job than when I saw the band in London in Feb '59. It was the last concert of a long tour and he 'cracked' on several of his solos - including String Of Pearls. It was so horrible I still remember it!

  • This is my song.
