(6:21) WHY THE HELL DIDN'T DREW TRY HARDER TO SAVE DAD? He clearly could've tried to grab the dog and pull it away from Dad, and his friend could've helped. But all he does it shout the dog's name over and over? It makes no sense.

Pisses me off everytime I watch this. Characters who are "bad people" are not supposed to be shown suffering (or begging for help) on screen, because it makes audience relate to them too much, and we're not supposed to relate to villains.

The Sherriff is Drew's "stepdad" as previously identified in the film. Drew does not like his stepdad, his stepdad does not like him, his stepdad is only there to fuck Drew's hot mom.

Drew (righteously) cares more about his dog, that his stepdad previously murdered.

So this makes perfect sense. The thing that this movie is really trying to get across is the moral and emotional dilemna of losing someone you love and wanting to do anything to get them back

A kid of toddler age can not say those things at all, not to mention convincingly, and much older kid would contradict the novel. It cucks because I think both aspects (the age and the spoeken lines) are equally important to the horror aspects of the story.

Not exactly. The place where they are burying them is a Native American burial ground, and it's implied to be cursed. This is why anything you bury there will not really come back as itself, but as an evil spirit with murderous intentions. The lure is that people will hear that their loved ones will live again, but of course this backfires in the worst way possible.

Well the lack of a hertbeat proves that they aren't brought back to life. And the spirit inhabiting the body isn't always the same spirit that was there when the creature was alive. Although ti's an interesting way of making something undead. Much easier than necromancy.
