It does just that. The LTHQ can act as a base and fire at regular intervals, which can be adjusted. So instead of sending out a healing signal, it sends out a fire signal. If the enemy gets too close, they get zapped. I have not seen an option to where the base can take a hit - which would be really cool. Also, there is a way to have multiple bases, but I'm not too sure how to set that up.
