  • Ah. Back when actors could speak and relay positive speeches...

  • Mc Calahan ? Que?

  • Who is the presenter? He is irritating. -_-

  • @WishesSailorMoon That's Howie Mandel. That was way before he went bald and hosted Deal or No Deal. What a dolt.

  • @WishesSailorMoon GOD, YOU ARE YOUNG! LOL

  • It sounds funny hearing her without the Blanch accent!

  • WOOO! GO BLANCH!

  • i love her accent its odd to hear her with her natural voice :3

  • Blanche; "Wasn't Danny Thomas one?".... Not Lebanese Blanche.... Lesbian! LOL. :-)

  • Rue referred to him as Harvey Mandrell for years after this!

  • Sassy biatch.

  • You get em girl! She was just wonderful!

  • Idiot Mandell calls her "McCalahan". Never have been able to stand that f'n douchebag!

  • wow amazingly put together speech. miss her so much!

  • She was a gracious, lovely lady. Thanks for this post.

  • Rue was so pretty, and more importantly she was a great actress. These young starlets could learn a few pointers from watching this classy lady!

  • Hey Howie, one question: WHO IS RUE MCCALLAHAN????????

  • am I the only who screamed "shut the fuck up" when Howie Mandell was going on and on???

  • seriously learn how to say the names before you go up there duh

  • WOW, never heard her without the Southern accent before! So different ;) anyhow, she's so lovely and i love the way Bea and Betty react to her winning. Glad they all won at one point or another. GG forever

  • Yeah , Howie was either drunk or stoned. What was that?

  • she sounds so different here, :)

  • This made me cry. Rest In Peace Blanche<3

  • LMFAO I love her she is so funny reset in peace -3

  • Howie Mandel.... seriously, what is the word for a male bimbo? Rue "McCalahan"?!?

  • Howie Madel seems all coked out.

  • What a true Lady... and so chic...

  • What a terrific speech! So gracious and heartfelt, and funny at the same time. RIP, Rue

  • Look at Estelle Getty at the end of the Vid (04:59): pure well-meaning!

She really shared the joy with her colleague Rue.

    Definitely not fake.

  • @Perthreus Those girls are NEVER FAKE:) They are such a sweethearts... the world lost MUCH of Talent.. there will never be others like Bea, Rue, Estelle and Betty... This girls will forever our Golden Girls:) Thanks for the laughs, and the wonderful moments in life. We learned a lot from you!!!!

  • omg I totally remember Howie's "it's weird" twitchy persona -- what happened to that child-like wonder, instead of the bald douchebag-with-a-soul-patch smarm-master gameshow host :sigh:

  • :)

  • I can't beleive he said her name wrong

  • @video77ab I know, the guy is full of himself. He looked stupid. Rue handled it well....said nothing. And laughed when he did it. Sad that she is gone.

  • "Rue McCalahan"? Really Howie?? REALLY?!?!?!

  • you know what's funny? i don't recognize the other shows nominated. goes to show that Golden Girls is timeless and an important cultural phenomenon

  • Gosh - I was actually filling up when Rue was delivering her speech! What a good piece of advice her mother gave her though!

"Every kick is a boost". =)

I agree with several comments here - it's a real shame that award ceremonies don't allow the victors to actually speak and say a few words...

This was by far one of the best speeches I've heard in a very long time!

Long may Betty reign and RIP to Rue, Estelle & Bea. Truly magnificent and always 'Golden'! =)

  • wow - back then they let the winners actually give a speech - that is great!

  • Now that is a lady.

  • this woman was so gracious, it is unbelievable...............would have loved to met her...........

  • I love Rose's and Bea's reaction to the results!

  • I miss her so much.

  • Shut up, Howie Mandel.

  • Rue is a beautiful woman, but not your conventional type beauty like Betty White. I can see how agents could tell her she wasn't photogenic. So for her to enhabit the role of Blanche Deveraux - a sexy, outgoing woman who describes herself as "devastatingly beautiful", It would take only an exceptional actress to pull it off and make the audience believe it.. Not only did she make us believe it, I simply can't imagine anyone else but Rue playing Blanche.. That's A phenominal actress!! :)

  • @raycomb30294 True acting is about playing character. While they were all legendary, Rue was number one. One important thing to note about Estelle Getty is that she had a wig and make-up on, and she got a lot of punch-line type jokes. Don't get me wrong - she was incredible. I feel if you had to pick the best, in my opinion, it's Rue. You watch interviews of her and you're stunned, because there never appears to be one quality of Blanche in Rue.

  • @nickah79: I completely agree about Rue's talent. I think her portrayal of Blanche is iconic and one of the greatest performances EVER on television. What made Rue so great is: Blanche could have easily been portrayed as a superficial, vain, narcissistic shallow cliche, and she would have been the typical unlikable but funny character. But somehow Rue, despite Blanche's shallowness, made her so beloved and charming and really lovable.

  • @mlc2005 Her character was the most complicated. Many issues with her children - mistakes with them while raising them. The fact that she was extremely promiscuous before and after George - yet never cheated on George. Just so much to that character that didn't come right to the screen, but was made aware of. Her manic episode in season 5 when she was going to become the great novelist and didn't sleep for two days. There was just so much depth. Was she truly shallow? Was it a facade? You know?

  • I could listen to her voice all day--she just has the most calming voice and presence. I luv what she said about a kick being a boost; I'm going to use that every day :) luv u heaps Rue xx

  • He said Rue Mcallahan?! Now I know why they made so much jokes about him on the golden girls. What a fool.

  • @Rikkel65 Hahahahahaha. NOW I get it. THAT'S why they mentioned his name so much lol. That makes it even funnier.

  • I think they receive Emmys for a particular episode...for which episode did she receive this Emmy???...

  • @richardvergara: "The End of the Curse." The one where Blanche goes through menopause.

  • @mlc2005 It's not for the whole season? I can't believe she won only once. They were all fabulous on the show, but, out of them all, she was the most character-driven actress on the show (in my opinion). She didn't even win a Golden Globe!

  • @nickah79: I agree that Rue was a stand out in an incredibly talented cast. Rue acted like she was BORN to play Blanche, and inhabited the role so completely, accent and all, that it was a real pleasure to watch her brilliance. I think the Emmy voters wanted to give each woman an Emmy, which shows a true respect for the cast. I think singling out any one in particular to give more than one award to would have been difficult.Globes tends to be more popularity, ie Estelle winning for Sophia

  • @mlc2005 Still, Bea and Betty both won previously. Estelle was in the supporting actress category, and she got most of the "punch lines." Blanche dealt with a gay brother, as well as a daughter who had artificial insemination (3 episdoes). She also dealt with the "illegitimate" son of her husband's that paid a visit. I don't know how the Academy makes it decisions. But I feel you should compare other Emmy winners to their previous roles. I feel Rue was slighted. She should've won two.

  • @nyc11104 It's Howie Mandel - enough said. But don't worry, because she got him back here

    youtubedotcom/watch?v=vXYSoJv28uo

  • Haha I Bet The People Who Gave Her The Kicks Were Kickin Themselves As They Saw This for The first Time

  • rue was very beautiful

  • Rue looks like Sophia Loren here!

  • @coloren1 She is pretty. And this is pretty much what she deserves.

  • @coloren1 you're right she was so breathtaking there she looks like shes in her fourties not fifties

  • love u Rue R I P

  • Totally off to get Rue's book! GG will stand the test of time- all four characters as loveable as each other in their own way and showing the true strength of friendship. Thanks girls!

  • Obviously all of the girls were brilliant and incredibly talented (one of the best cast in tv sitcom history imo), but I always thought Rue was the best actresses. Just watching episodes now, it amazes me how great she was in totally inhabiting the role, and being nuanced. Blanche could have been a despised character due to her shallowness, but Rue made her totally lovable and charming.

  • what a terrible presenter..

  • @kerryben40 And your a failer in life. No one wants you so go away.

  • @FelfiLoh If your referring to me if i was talking about rue mcclanahan or that guy, i wasnt. If your defending kerryben, you are a major idiot.

  • @LightningCreations SOrry ! lol i thought u mean rue !!! SORRY SORRY again !!

  • This is Rue's first and only win. Howie should've at least pronounced her last name right.

  • love the speech...

  • Howie Mandel is an idiot... FYI, punch 1:02 to get past him. GO RUE!!!!

  • One of the most gracious speeches I have seen at these awards shows. Love how they let actors take their time back then & really give thanks to some people. Of course totally deserved win here by the brilliant Rue. How she was never nominated in supporting actress in the 1970s for Maude is a mystery. Rue and Bea were a wonderful combination in Maude(The Game Show episode of Maude is a great example!) They had great chemistry in Maude & then of course a great ensemble in GG. RIPand thank you Rue!

  • anybody who hasn't read her book, is truly missing out. it's a hoot! "my first five husbands".

  • @uncoverbrother

That must explain how she can go in and out of a southern accent so smoothly.

  • Howie Mandel didn't pronounce her name right, the dolt....

  • So weird to hear her without her "Blanche Devereaux" accent.

  • @UofLCardFan08 yea, she actually majored in speech in college. guess that explains her impeccable diction.

  • I love how excited Bea and Betty were for Rue.

  • rue was lookin fierce so pretty

  • I love it!

  • Dear Mycolourofmyloverx Thank You for posting this.

I love Rue and The Golden Girls
