if you want some similar artists to JF I'd recommend checking out some of Omar Rodriguez Lopez's solo material, him and John also put out an album together that you should check out, and take a look at some of the material Josh Klinghoffer put out, he's contributed to many of John's solo album including this one, also the album a sphere in the heart of silence is a collaborative effort between the two of them, and Ataxia a band made up of John, Josh, and Joe Lally of Fugazi.
