I don't see how Pacey and Joey were perfect together at all. They were so... awkward and forced. But Dawson and Joey just loved each other so much from day one and knew EVERYTHING about each other. The writers led us to believe they were soul mates from day one and then changed their minds which was stupid.

The difference is Rachel & Ross was marketable & made MONEY. D/J could NOT. The "Dawson's Creek" audience never identified with certain characters & rejected them. It forced Pacey into the lead opposite Joey & squashed Andie & Dawson. As for "Friends" the audience never rejected Ross or Rachel in favor of someone else- they were the leads & ALWAYS made money. The entire P/J storyline was a propaganda scheme but they made so much more money there was no other choice in terms of the finale.
