Yeah, the balance in this recording is not great, and the flute is a bit soft. It was recorded at a noisy bridal convention exhibit floor using sound that was recorded on the built-in microphone of a video camera (Not the best mic for recording music. The balance was actually better for those who heard this live.
It depends on what purpose you are using it for. In this case, the "Hornpipe" is intended for a wedding recessional, so if you played it too fast, it would sound frantic rather than elegant, and the bride and groom might be encouraged to run down the aisle instead of processing at a more stately tempo. Originally a Hornpipe was a sailor's dance, but even when used for this purpose it should not be played too fast to dance to.
It was all great my school orchestra did this at concert and got straight ones.
i think you should of grouped all the strings to gether to keep a central sound, and have all of te winds on the outside to engulf the sound and make it one.
hey, its a thought. but at least I won't be run down and killed by a piccolo trumpet. and the emissions are harmless at worst. Thank the Lord for his mrecy!
in fact considering the length of a modern trumpet you sound it fully and richly. i have looked at cavalry trumpets but the clarino range is for virtuosos. i suppose the length of a piccolo trumpet is similar to that of a conchshell.
Yes, now that I think about it, the piccolo trumpet might be about in the same range as your average conch shell, but the mouthpiece is much more comfortable to play on!
Yes (to both questions), but remember that transportation on the roads of Handel's time was by vehicles moved by real horsepower (horses), not by today's high-tech (and smoother-riding) automobiles. The piccolo trumpet is the instrument used for baroque music in modern-day symphony orchestras. The antique-style natural trumpets are now only used in period instrument orchestras.
Ever since i was little i've always loved the trumpet im now in 8th grade and thanks to the band department and my band director i am playing trumpet now.
then i was introduced into the piccolo trumpet
and ive been interested how much would the price range of one be??
Piccolo trumpets (at least ones that you would want to play on) generally cost about the same as professional model Bb trumpets do. Getzen (the brand of piccolo that I play on) makes some models that sound nice and are reasonably priced. I saw on Getzen's website that the Getzen Eterna piccolo trumpet now comes with Blackburn leadpipes--a nice upgrade in quality! See the Blog page of my website for more info on piccolo trumpet brands, etc.
Thanks. We all listen to, perform, and love many types of music (some of which would probably surprise you), but orchestral music is certainly one of our favorite types. We love orchestras! Performing or listening to a piece like this is like travelling back in time a few hundred years and experiencing one of the eighteenth century's enduring hits--it's a classic.
Yes, there is a lot of background noise and a muddy acoustical environment in this video because it was made on the exhibit floor of a very noisy convention center exhibit hall at a bridal fair. Thanks for your comment!
P.S.--I'll be posting some new videos soon that I will record in a better location, such as in an auditorium or church sanctuary. Please keep checking back for new videos.

Yes conchshell mouthpieces always look as though they have been pissed in by a rat.

Händel !!!!!!!!!!!!! or Haendel!
ignorants!
foerster 3 years ago
Well, it depends...
Although he was born in Germany, he spent most of his life (other than his childhood) in England with the Anglicized name, Handel.
And, as William Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name smells just as sweet...."
By the way....Foerster !!!???? or Firster !!!??? or Forester !!!???
We could get into that debate also, if you wanted to!

I've heard of sailors who play the porn pipe
livegems 3 years ago
Hmmm......I think that would be something entirely different. A hornpipe is an English sailor song, however.

I don't know...Sometimes, in the wrong hands, piccolo trumpets emit extremely penetrating sounds that can be rather deadly.

weren't all the trumets in Handel's day in 7 foot D with no valves? don't they sound a bit different to this?

Great sound on the trumpet! sadly the traffic in the background could'nt be contained...or was that a barnyard?

Ha!!! lol :) Not a barnyard, but you were close: It was a busy exhibit hall floor at a bridal show convention. Thanks for the compliment!
