I feel like a lot of Elphabas now a days just hold the broom and look down, moving it from left-to-right on "And nobody in all of Oz..." SJB actually communicates that she is saying to the gaurds "This is the deal. I am talking to you. You thought you were going to arrest me but now you are crawling on the floor in fear. Let all of Oz know who I am. No evil, phony man or any of you stupid, ignorant people can ever stop me, because I'm not afraid anymore. I have nothing else to loose." SJB rocks!
I have seen several Elphabas, but none have ever been better than Stephanie. I saw her on the first national tour and she was outstanding. I wish I could see her again.
I just uploaded a video of Stephanie J. Block in her performance of Belle at Disneyland in 1992! She was always the best one... we would go every weekend just to see her! She was so amazing even back then...
Stephanie J Block is amazing. She puts so much emotion into the character of Elphaba that you really believe her. Her tone is amazing and unique. I wish she would come back as Elphaba because I've never seen her live :( Idinia Menzel is my favorite Elphaba but Stephanie comes in close. Thank you for posting this!
I went to the same Arts School as her and she was up for Belle on broadway and they gave it to Susan Egan. Than she was Up for Elphaba, but they wanted a Name so was given to Idina. This girl is such an amazing gift and I want her to get her moment to her Moment. She is a Star! SO GIVE HER CHANCE!!! I only get chills from this song when I hear her sing it.
@westboem She did in 9 to 5 the musical she was the orig. Judy Burnley, Jane Fonda Played the orig Judy in the 1980 movie with Lily Tomlin (Violet) and Dolly Parton (Doralee) and Steph was the first Elphaba in the 1st national tour of Wicked in 2005
@westboem Well first of all I want to point out that the reason she wasn't Elphaba wasn't cuz they wanted a name. She WAS cast as Elphaba, but it conflicted with her schedule for "The Boy From Oz" Where she originated the role of Liza Minelli. Wicked loved her so much that when she was done they asked her to open the National Tour for them and then go to Broadway. Then she went on to originate the role of Judy Burnley in 9 to 5 the musical. She is a star and definitely getting her chance.
Omg.. she is really great!! and very good.. I didn't know SJB is that good!!! she is a close third... because Rachel Tucker gives me more the inpression of a Witch.. she really looks like one.. and SJB has in not that much, but she act like a great one trough... and well.. Willemijn Verkaik will always be the one for me!
Just a little thing that she did that I thought was AWESOME. On "Tell them how I..." She looks at the broom with awe like "Is this really happening?!" Love it.

@westboem She should have done it instead of Susan. Susan wasn't that good.

She does the acting part really well! But I still prefer Idina Menzel's singing. :)
